As you will soon discover, LandRoller skates provide a much smoother more stable ride than traditional inline skates. So have fun. Get Out of Line! with LandRoller.

For a safer skating experience, please read this entire owner’s manual before skating on your LandRoller skates. Keep the manual in a safe place for future reference. Keep your sales receipt. Do not forget to register your LandRollers by visiting our website, www.landroller.com/register and filling out the short registration form.

Skating is fun, but it is also an inherently dangerous activity which can result in serious and debilitating injuries, or even death. To reduce the risk of injury or fatality, always wear full safety gear specifically designed for skating, including a helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, kneepads and reflective devices. Understand that no protective gear can fully protect you in every situation. Skate responsibly and in control at all times.

WARNING: Start Slowly

Do not try to skate too fast! Remember that you can quickly pick up speed, especially going downhill. Make sure you know how to brake and control your speed before attempting to skate down even the smallest hill.

All LandRoller skates come with a heel brake attached to the right skate that can easily be switched to the left skate by the user. Removal of the brake from the skate is not recommended for most users. Slowing and stopping without a brake requires very advanced skills and techniques. Choosing to skate without a brake is the sole responsibility of the user.

Skaters should practice speed control, turning and braking techniques in a safe place such as a private parking lot, private driveway or a paved playground before skating on any open roads or pathways, particularly before skating downhill. Stay alert and always skate at2 speeds and over terrain that allow you to safely stop or slow down and make controlled, evasive turns. Always skate under control and within your skating ability or you may fall or have a serious accident. Be sure that you anticipate and allow sufficient distance to stop. Braking systems on skates are not designed for immediate stops. Serious or even fatal injury may result if you do not know how to stop effectively.

WARNING: Avoid Bad Surfaces

Avoid skating on wet, icy, oily or soft surfaces; these can cause you to slip and fall. Limit your skating to flat, clean, dry surfaces free from debris and away from other users. Avoid steep terrain and unusually rough surfaces.

WARNING: Outboard Wheels

The large angled wheels on LandRollers protrude on the outer side of each boot. Be careful not to skate too close to poles, curbs or other stationary objects to avoid getting your wheels caught; this may cause serious injury. Similarly, keep a safe distance from other skaters or pedestrians, so that the protruding angled wheels do not contact others. Keep fingers and other objects away from wheels when skating. Do not remove the wheel guard, which is located between the rear wheel and the boot.

If your LandRollers are not fitting correctly or if the laces are dangling, be sure to stop before attempting to make any adjustments. Do not skate with dangling laces. They could get caught and wrapped up in a wheel. This could cause you to stop abruptly and fall, resulting in serious injury.

WARNING: Avoid Vehicular Traffic

Do not skate in vehicular traffic. Never allow yourself to be towed by a bicycle, car, bus, or any other type of vehicle.

WARNING: Recreational Use Only

LandRoller skates are intended for recreational use only. Use this product at your own risk. LandRoller, Inc. assumes no responsibility for negligent or careless acts or use. Children should only use this product with adult supervision. The user assumes all risk of personal injuries and damage to personal property.

WARNING: Weight Limit

LandRoller adult skates belong to class A (for maximum 100 kg / 220 pound users) and children’s skates to class B (for maximum 60 kg /132 pound users) according to DIN EN

Only replace your LandRoller wheels with LandRoller branded or LandRoller approved wheels with the smaller (approximately 150 mm diameter) always in the front and the larger (approximately 180 mm diameter) always in the rear. Replacement wheels may be purchased from your local retailer, distributor or online at www.landroller.com/store.

WARNING: Modifications

Never make any modification to any part of your LandRoller skates that might alter the skate’s effectiveness or diminish or impair its safety features.

WARNING: Running Checks

Before skating, and when you stop during a skate, check to make sure that no screws or axels have loosened. While you are skating, continue to inspect your skates visually. Be cognizant of any unusual changes in performance. If you notice a problem while skating, stop skating immediately and inspect your skates for the source of the problem.4

GETTING STARTED ON LANDROLLERS

Following are some basics for people first starting to skate on LandRollers: Stability Because of the superior stability and larger wheels, most beginners find LandRollers easier to learn on than in-line skates. Good Fit To ensure a comfortable fit, better support and increased responsiveness, be sure to lace your skates until snug and tighten your buckles and power straps (if any) until your feet are supported firmly. LandRoller skates should feel snug but not too tight. Your longest toe should almost touch the inside end of your boot. Your foot should not be able to move about inside your boot. Some skaters with narrow feet may wish to use a thicker insole to achieve a better fit. Lessons LandRoller strongly recommends that beginners take a few lessons from a licensed skate instructor to learn proper techniques for stopping, controlling speed, turning and skating.

REGULAR MAINTENANCE Please note that regular maintenance will enhance the safety of your LandRoller skates. Inspect Your Gear Before skating spend a few minutes checking out your gear. Wheels & Axles Try to wiggle each wheel in order to check for axel and bearing tightness. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure the axles have been tightened and are in good working condition prior to each use. Attachment Screws Before skating on your LandRollers, always check the connection between the boot and the frame to make sure all mounting screws are properly tightened. Also check to make sure that the brake arm is securely attached to the frame, and that the brake pad is securely attached to the brake arm.5 Thread Coatings LandRoller screws and axle threads have been treated with a thread coating that serves as a part of the retention system for the skate’s fasteners. The effectiveness of these thread coatings can be reduced after repeated removal and reinstallation of the screws and axles. Periodic reapplication of thread coating or, when needed, replacement of axles is recommended. Replacement hardware may be ordered directly from LandRoller at www.landroller.com/store. Tires Inspect all 4 wheels for tire wear. Uneven or excessive tire wear will reduce performance. Brake Check the brake arm and brake pad for a secure fit. Before skating, make sure that there is still plenty of material on the brake pad below the wear line. When the pad is worn to the wear line, the pad must be immediately replaced. New brake pads may be purchased from your local retailer, distributor or online at www.landroller.com/store. Laces & Buckles Check for worn or frayed laces and loose buckles and replace or repair, if needed. Frames & Axles Look for damage to the frames and axles such as cracks, breaks or bends. Sharp Edges If wear and usage causes any part of your LandRoller skates to become torn or chipped leaving a sharp edge that may cut or injure the user, take care to file down that sharp section with a file, rasp or coarse sand paper.6

SKATING Start slowly on smooth, level surfaces that are free from debris. Practice your stopping before moving on. Be sure to always look where you’re going … toward your destination. Visually monitor the path ahead for hazards…do not stare at your skates or feet. Bend your knees slightly and push off with one skate angled slightly outward while pointing the other skate in the direction you’d like to go. Alternate this action between one foot and the other. STOPPING Be sure that you know how to stop and be sure to skate at controlled speeds so that you can stop comfortably and safely. The braking technique on LandRollers is similar to using a heel drag brake on an inline skate. To stop, move the skate with the brake on it forward and lift your toe. Be sure to keep your knees bent and apply pressure to your heel in order to force the brake to drag against the skating surface. The harder you press, the faster you will slow down and eventually stop. Practice until you are comfortable and able to gauge your stopping distance. TURNING Mild turns can be made by leaning slightly in the direction you would like to turn and un-weighting the inside skate. More advanced skaters can make much sharper turns by lifting the inside skate front wheel and pivoting on the rear wheel. For more detailed skating tips, please visit www.landroller.com.7

Always wear your protective gear. (Helmet, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads and lighted or reflective devices). Go slowly. Learn the basics, including braking techniques, before attempting to skate on the open path or road. Stay alert and always skate under control. Avoid debris, rocks, oil, sand, water and uneven surfaces. Stay away from areas with heavy traffic. Skate on streets with wide shoulders and always skate with the flow of traffic. Do not wear headphones, headbands or anything that will diminish your ability to hear or see. Do not skate at night or at any time when it is difficult to see or be seen. Skate defensively. Imagine what would happen if a car or cyclist were to cross your pathway. Visualize all collision scenarios and think about what you would do to avoid them. Make sure that you know the traffic laws and local regulations for skaters in your area. Always be courteous and polite to everyone on the path or roadway. The manufacturer and distributor of LandRoller products cannot be held liable for any damage or injury caused by failure to comply with the regulations and directions described in this manual. Any such non-compliance is at the risk of the skater.8

PROPER CARE FOR YOUR LANDROLLERS

Take good care of your LandRoller skates and they should bring you years of enjoyment. Here are a few tips to remember: Avoid skating through water or mud. Aside from the risk of slipping, water and mud will damage your bearings. Keep your skates clean and dry. Wipe off mud and other grime with a soft cloth after each use. Also, let your LandRollers air out after use. Check to make sure that all screws are securely fastened. Avoid over-tightening. Inspect wheels for excessive wear or damage and replace if needed. Spin the wheels to check whether the wheels, bearings and axles are working properly. Laces that are frayed should be replaced. Check the condition of your brake pad frequently. If the brake pad has worn down to the wear line, it is time to replace it. Do not skate if the brake pad is worn past the wear line. The liners may be removed for cleaning and airing out. Wash in cold or warm water with mild detergent. Air dry. Keep the liners away from any type of heat source such as fireplace, electric or gas room heater, etc. Generally, the smaller front wheels will wear out sooner than the larger rear wheels. Normally, you will not need to “rotate” LandRoller wheels. However, if your braking, push-off or turning techniques lead to more wear on one skate than the other, the wheels can be rotated from one skate to the other. Because LandRoller wheels are asymmetrical, you cannot rotate your wheels in the same manner as traditional inline skates. You may switch wheels from one skate to the other, providing that you keep the smaller wheels at the front (toe end) and the larger wheel at the back (heel end).9 INSTRUCTIONS: To Remove the Wheels Using your LandRoller tool, or any 4 mm hex wrench, unscrew (counter clockwise) the axle that holds the wheel to the frame and remove the wheel and axle from the frame. Then slide the wheel off of the axle. Make sure that you do not misplace the wheel washer that fits around the axel between the wheel and the frame. To Replace the Wheels Slip the threaded end of the axle through the bearings inside the new wheel hub making sure to keep the concave side of the wheel facing away from the frame. Then insert the threaded end of the axle through the wheel washer. Now insert the threaded end of the axle into the hole on the side of the frame and slide the axel into the hole as far as it will go. Tighten the axle with your LandRoller tool, or any 4 mm hex wrench. Do not over tighten the axle. The axles and wheel washers for the front and rear wheel are identical. Do make sure that you put the smallest diameter wheel at the toe end of your skate and the larger wheel onto the heel end of your skate. Replacement wheels can be purchased at your local retailer, distributor or online at www.landroller.com/store. Care of the Bearings You will notice that your LandRoller skates have two series 6000-ZZ bearings and a spacer in the hub of each wheel. LandRoller series 6000-ZZ bearings can be purchased at www.landroller.com/store. These bearings are packed with light oil and although they are shielded, dirt, dust and water may still enter the bearing shields and adversely affect the bearing’s performance. Take special care to keep your LandRollers free from areas that could result in contamination of the bearings.10 Do not attempt to remove the shields for cleaning. To do so will likely damage the bearing shields. To ensure long wheel life and the best performance, bearings should be periodically lubricated. 6000-ZZ bearings can be lubricated by laying the wheel on its side and applying a few drops of light oil onto the bearing shields. Spread the oil over the surface of the shields with a clean cloth or Q-tip, allowing the oil to seep through the tiny openings in the metal shield. Be sure to change your bearings when they begin to make noise and hamper the free spinning of the wheels. New bearings can be purchased at your local retailer, distributor or online at www.landroller.com/ store.

Changing the Bearings Review the instructions for removing and replacing a wheel. Then remove the wheel or wheels that need new bearings from the skate frames. Use a 6000 series bearing puller to gently remove each of the bearings from each side of the wheel hub (do not use a typical inline skate 608 series bearing puller as it will damage the bearing shields). Next, remove the bearing spacer from the center of the bearing housing. Then, with your thumb gently push a new bearing into one side of the bearing housing all the way into place. You may need to place the bearing on a table or flat surface and firmly press down on the wheel hub to push the bearing completely into the housing. Lastly, slide the bearing spacer into the open end of the bearing housing, and then push in the second bearing until it is flush with the rim of the bearing housing.

Replacing the Brake Pad Using your LandRoller tool, or any 4 mm hex wrench, remove the screw that holds on the brake pad. Replace the pad and tighten the screw. Switching the Brake Arm Use your LandRoller tool, or any 4 mm hex wrench, to remove the 2 screws that hold the brake arm to the bottom of the frame. Now you may attach the brake arm to the bottom of the other skate by screwing the two screws into the threaded holes on the other LandRoller skate frame. Replacement brake pads and brake arms can be purchased at your local retailer, distributor or online at www.landroller.com/store.11 Warranty LandRoller skates and accessories are warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the period of two (2) years from the date of purchase.
