Intended use
This appliance is intended primarily for non-commercial use in closed rooms for grilling/toasting food and baking waffles in in normal household quantities. Any use other than previously stated is considered as improper use.

Safety instructions
Inspect the appliance for visible signs of damage before use. Do not use a damaged appliance.
This appliance may be used by children under the age 8 years and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or lack of experience and/or knowledge only if they are supervised or were instructed on using the appliance and have understood the possible dangers.
Children may not play with the appliance.
Cleaning and care of the appliance may not be performed by children who are not under supervision.
Store the appliance and accessory parts out of the reach of children under 8 years of age.
Do not leave the appliance unattended during operation.
Only allow repairs to the appliance to be carried out by an authorised specialist or by the works customer service; this particularly applies to replacing a damaged connecting cable. Unqualified repairs can lead to considerable danger for the user. They will also invalidate the guarantee.
Repairs to the appliance during the guarantee period may only be carried out by service centres authorised by the manufacturer, otherwise the guarantee will become invalid in the event of damage or subsequent damage.
Defective parts may only be replaced with original spare parts. Only original spare parts guarantee that the safety requirements are met.
Only use spare parts from the manufacturer or spare parts that are specifically recommended by the manufacturer. The guarantee will otherwise be invalidated.
Do not use this appliance together with an external timer or a separate remote control system.

WARNING
Danger of burns!
This electrical appliance has a heating function. Surfaces, even other than the functional surfaces can develop high temperatures. Since temperatures are sensed differently by different people, this appliance must be used CAREFULLY. Only hold the appliance using the intended gripping surfaces and use gloves or pot holders to protect against heat. Surfaces not intended to be used for gripping must be allowed sufficient time to cool down.
Do not touch the hot surfaces of the appliance during operation.
Do not move the appliance during operation.
Use the handle to hold the appliance while it is in operation.
Keep all parts of your body away from possible escaping steam.
Before cleaning or changing parts, allow the appliance to cool down.
Fire risk
Food can burn. Never use the appliance in the vicinity of or underneath flammable materials such as curtains.
CAUTION
Only operate the appliance when the upper part is folded down.
Do not operate the appliance when it is empty.
Do not pull the connecting cable to remove the plug from the mains socket.
Do not use hard objects or abrasive cleaning agents to clean the surfaces.
Never lift or move the appliance with the mains cable.
Requirements for the place of use
For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the installation location must satisfy the following requirements:
Place the appliance on a firm, dry, flat, waterproof and heat-resistant surface.
Do not install the appliance in a hot, wet or very humid environment.
The mains socket must be easily accessible and allow fast disconnection in the event of an emergency.
The surface finishes on furniture may contain substances that can be detrimental to the silicon feet of the appliance. If necessary, place a mat under the feet of the appliance.
Allow enough room around the appli- ance so that air can circulate freely.
Select a location that does not allow children to reach the hot surfaces of the appliance.
Electrical connection
For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the following instructions must be observed for the electrical connection:
Before connecting the appliance, compare the connection data (voltage and frequency) on the rating plate with those of your mains power supply. This data must correspond in order to avoid damage to the appliance. If in doubt, ask your electrical appliance retailer.
The mains socket must be protected by at least a 10 A automatic circuit breaker.
Ensure that the mains lead is undamaged and is not laid over sharp edges.
The mains cable must not pulled tightly, bent or come into contact with hot surfaces.
Always unwind the mains cable completely before connecting the appliance to the mains socket.
Route the cable to prevent risk of tripping.
The electrical safety of the appliance is only assured when it is connected to a properly installed protective earth (PE) conductor system. Connection to a mains socket without PE conductor is forbidden. If in doubt, the electrical system must be checked by a qualified electrician. The manufacturer assumes no liability for injury or damage caused by a missing or interrupted protective earth conductor.

Unpacking
Remove the appliance, all accessory parts and the user manual from the box.
Remove all packaging materials and protective foils from the product and the accessories before using it for the first time.
NOTE
Do not remove the rating plate or any warning signs on the appliance.
If possible, keep the original packaging during the guarantee period in order to be able to pack the appliance properly in the event of a guarantee claim. Transport damage will invalidate the guarantee.
Check the delivery contents
Check for visible signs of damage or missing items.
Report incomplete or damaged contents to your supplier immediately.
Operation and use
Replacing the hotplates
The appliance is supplied with 3 different hotplate sets:
Hotplates
Grilling plates (8/9)
Use
For grilling meat, sausages or vegetables
Waffle plates (13)
for preparing waffles.
Sandwich plates (14)
for preparing sandwiches.
NOTE
The upper and lower hotplate are identical.
WARNING
Danger of burns!
- Allow the appliance to cool down before replacing the hotplates.
To replace the hotplates, proceed as follows:
Lift up the lid locking latch (5) and open the lid (6).
Push up both locks of the upper hot-plate (7) at the same time and fold the hotplate (8) forwards.
Remove the upper hotplate and insert the new hotplate into the lower guide.
Fold the hotplate towards the lid until it audibly snaps in.
To replace the lower hotplate, push forward both locks of the lower hotplate (10) at the same time and fold the hotplate (9) upwards.
Remove the lower hotplate and insert the new hotplate into the rear guide.
Fold the hotplate downwards until it audibly snaps in.
NOTE
Always use two hotplates of the same type.
Before using, check that the hot- plates are seated properly.
Opening/closing the lid
To open the lid, push the lid locking latch (5) forward and lift the lid (6).
To close the lid, slowly press the lid (6) down and push the lid locking latch (5) over the recess for the lid locking latch (11).
Before using for the first time
Insert a hotplate set into the appliance as described in the section Replacing the hotplates.
Wipe the hotplates (8 and 9) with a damp cloth.

NOTE
Due to production residue (grease), it is possible that a new appliance may smoke lightly. Ensure sufficient ventilation.
Wait until the green temperature indicator (3) extinguishes.
pull the plug out of the mains socket and allow the appliance to cool down completely.
Clean the appliance and the accessories as described in the section Cleaning and care.
Switching the appliance ON/OFF
The appliance is not equipped with an on/off switch. The appliance is in operation when the mains plug is plugged in.
Sandwiches
To make sandwiches with the appliance, proceed as follows:
Insert the sandwich plates (14) into the appliance as described in the section Replacing the hotplates.
Fold the lid (6) downwards.
Insert the plug into the mains socket. The red power indicator (2) lights up, the green temperature indicator (3) lights up and the appliance starts heating. This can take a few minutes.
NOTE
In the mean time, prepare your sandwiches and fill then to taste, e. g., with salami and cheese.
Do not use too much cheese. Melted cheese can ooze out of the sides of the sandwiches.
Wait until the green temperature indicator (3) extinguishes.
Open the lid (6) of the appliance and lay the prepared sandwiches onto the lower hotplate.
Slowly press the lid (6) downwards and fold down the lid locking latch (5).
Check the browning of the sandwich intermittently by briefly opening the lid (6). Depending on the filling, this will take between 4 and 6 minutes.
Open the lid (6) and remove the fin- 1ished sandwiches with a wooden or heat-proof spatula.
NOTE
If you wish to prepare further sand-wiches, wait until the green temperature indicator (3) has extinguished. the appliance has then reached the ideal temperature.
Waffles
To prepare waffles with the appliance, proceed as follows:
Recipe for butter waffles (approx. 10 pieces)
100 g of soft butter
100 g of sugar
packet of vanilla sugar
eggs
250 g of flour
Teaspoon of baking powder
420 ml milk
Stir sugar and vanilla sugar into the softened butter and then each egg one at a time. Finally add the flour with the baking powder and the milk. Stir everything to smooth mass.
NOTE
The waffle mixture should have a thick texture but still smoothly flow off the spoon.
The ingredients used should be fresh and be at room temperature.
Waffles taste best when they are freshly prepared.
Work quickly so that the waffle mixture does not burn onto the lower hotplate.
Preparation:
Prepare the waffle mixture.
Insert the waffle plates (13) into the appliance as described in the section
Replacing the hotplates.
Oil the hotplates each time before using - not before each waffle. Saturate a kitchen roll with vegetable oil and wipe it over the hotplates.
Fold the lid (6) downwards.
Insert the plug into the mains socket. The red power indicator (2) lights up, the green temperature indicator (3) lights up and the appliance starts heating. This can take a few minutes.
Fold up the lid (6).
Fill the middle of the left and right halves of the lower hotplate with the waffle mixture.
Fold the lid down without locking it.
NOTE
If too much waffle mixture is used, it can ooze out of the side of the appliance. This particularly applies to mixtures with raising agents. Use less mixture when filling the next time.
If you fill with too little mixture, the waffle form will be smaller.
During baking, lift up the lid briefly to inspect the waffle. Allow it to bake to a golden brown colour.
NOTE
The first waffles may stick to the upper hotplate although it was oiled. This will stop happening after a few times.
Remove the freshly baked waffle.
NOTE
In order not to damage the coating of the hotplate, only use heat-resistant cutlery made of plastic or wood.
To prevent the waffles from softening, do not lay the finished waffles on top of each other.
Grilling
To grill meat or vegetables with the appliance, proceed as follows:
Insert the grilling plates (8/9) into the appliance as described in the section Replacing the hotplates.
Lightly oil the hotplates each time before using. Saturate a kitchen roll with vegetable oil and wipe it over the hotplates.
Fold the lid (6) downwards.
Insert the plug into the mains socket. The red power indicator (2) lights up, the green temperature indicator (3) lights up and the appliance starts heating. This can take a few minutes.
Wait until the green temperature indicator (3) extinguishes.

Lay the items to be grilled onto the lower grilling plate.

Periodically check the grilling progress. Use kitchen paper to absorb escaping gravity so that it does not run out of the appliance.
Open the lid (6) and remove the finished grilled items with a wooden or heat-proof spatula.

Clean the appliance and the accessories used as described in the section Cleaning and care.
Cleaning and care
Before beginning work, pay attention to the safety instructions in the section on safety!
Cleaning the appliance
Switch off the appliance and pull the plug out of the mains socket.
Allow the appliance to cool down completely.
Remove the hotplates and clean them in a warm washing-up liquid solution or in the dishwasher.
Wipe the outside and inside of the housing of the appliance (1) with a lightly damp cloth.
Dry all parts of the appliance thor- roughly after cleaning.
NOTE
Dried and caked food residues on the hotplates can be removed more easily if you allow them to soak in warm washing-up liquid solution for 10 minutes before cleaning.
Do not use sharp objects or household cleaners to clean the appliance.
Storage
If you do not intend to use the appliance for a longer period of time, clean it as described in the section Cleaning and care.
Store the appliance at a dry, clean and frost-free place which is protected against direct sunlight.
Troubleshooting
The following table helps in localising and remedying minor faults:
