Introduction Congratulations on the purchase of your new appliance. You have clearly decided in favour of a quality product. These operating instructions are a component of the product. They supply you with important information for the intended use, safety and disposal. Before using the product, please familiarise yourself with all of the operating and safety instructions. Use the appliance only as described and only for the purposes indicated. Additionally, pass these instructions on to whoever might acquire the appliance at a future date. Intended Use This appliance is intended for the boiling-up of water in domestic households. It is not intended for use with other liquids or for commercial applications. Do not use the appliance until it has been completely assembled. This appliance is intended exclusively for use in domestic households. Do not use the appliance for commercial applications! WARNING Risks from unintended use! Risks can be engendered by the appliance if it is used for unintended purposes and/or for other types of use. ► Use the appliance exclusively for its intended purposes. ► Observe the procedures described in these operating instructions. Safety instructions RISK - ELECTRICAL SHOCK! ► Ensure that the base with the electrical connections NEVER comes into contact with water! Ensure that the base is completely dry before use, especially if it has accidentally become wet. ► Use the kettle only with the supplied base. ► Ensure that the power cable never becomes wet or damp during operation. Lay the cable so that it cannot be trapped or otherwise damaged. ► To avoid risks, arrange for defective plugs and/or cables to be replaced at once by qualifi ed technicians or our Customer Ser- vice Department. ► After use, ALWAYS remove the plug from the mains power socket. Switching the appliance off is not suffi cient, because the appli- ance is under power for as long as the plug is connected to the power socket. ► Before use check the appliance for signs of visible external dam- age. Do not put into operation an appliance that is damaged or has been dropped. ► Repairs should only be carried out by authorized specialist companies or by the Customer Service department. Incompetent repairs can result in signifi cant risks for the user. In addition war- ranty claims become void. NEVER submerse the appliance in water or other liquids! You could receive a fatal electric shock if residual liquids come into contact with live components during operation.5 SWKS 2400 D1

WARNING - RISK OF INJURY! ► Heat water only with the lid closed, otherwise the automatic switch- off cannot function. Boiling water could then spray out over the rim. ► Hot steam clouds may be released. The kettle also becomes very hot during use. It is always best to wear oven mitts when handling the kettle. ► Ensure that the appliance is stood stably and vertically before switching it on. Boiling water can cause an unstable kettle to fall over. ► Do not open the lid while the water is boiling. ► This appliance may be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and/or knowledge if they are supervised or, in regard to the safe use of the appliance, have been instructed in its use and have under- stood the potential risks. ► This appliance may be used by children aged 8 years or more if they are supervised or, in regard to the safe use of the appliance, have been instructed in its use and have understood the potential risks. Cleaning and user maintenance tasks should not be carried out by children unless they are aged 8 years or more and are su- pervised. The device and its connecting cable must be kept away from children younger than 8 years old. ► Children may not play with the appliance. ► Do not fi ll the kettle up to more than the MAX marking! Otherwise boiling water may spill out!6 SWKS 2400 D1

WARNING - PROPERTY DAMAGE! ► Do not use an external timing switch or a separate remote control system to operate the appliance. ► Never leave the appliance unsupervised whilst in use. ► Ensure that the appliance, the power cable and the plug do not come into contact with hot plates or open fl ames. Preparation Unpacking ♦ Remove all components of the appliance and the operating manual from the carton. ♦ Remove all packing material. Disposal of the packaging The packaging protects the appliance against transport damage. The packaging materials are selected from the point of view of their environmental friendliness and disposal technology and are therefore recyclable. The recirculation of packaging into the material circuit saves on raw material and reduces the amount of waste generated. Dispose of packaging material that is no longer needed according to the regionally established regulations. NOTICE ► If possible, preserve the appliance's original packaging during the warranty period so that, in the ev ent of a warranty claim, you can pack the appliance ideally for its return.7 SWKS 2400 D1

Initial use WARNING - RISK OF INJURY! ► Always and only use freshly drawn mains water in the kettle! Do not con- sume any w ater that is not certifi ed as potable. If you do, you are taking a risk with your health! Before starting the appliance up, make certain that ... – the appliance, plug and power cable are in a serviceable condition and ... – all packaging materials have been removed from the appliance.

2) Fill the appliance with water up to the MAX marking and let it come to a

full boil once – as described in the next section.

3) After it has boiled, pour this water away.

4) Rinse the kettle out with clear water.

5) Fill the appliance with water once again, up to the MAX marking, and

then bring it to boil. When done, pour this water away also.

6) Rinse the kettle out with clear water.

The appliance is now ready for use. Boiling water RISK - ELECTRICAL SHOCK! ► Never place the electrical base 4 close to water – this w ould be a potentially fatal risk! WARNING - RISK OF INJURY! ► Always use freshly drawn water. Do not consume any water that has already stood in the ke ttle for longer than one hour. Do not reboil water that has cooled down. Always pour old water away. Microbes could have formed in it! NOTE ► Always ensure that the ON/OFF switch 3 is turned to “0” when the mains plug is unplugged and the device is standing on the base

WARNING - RISK OF INJURY! ► For safety reasons you should not open the lid when the water is boiling or extr emely hot. There is a risk of scalding.

7) The light in the ON/OFF switch 3 shows that the appliance is now heating.

8) As soon as the water is boiling, the appliance will switch itself off , the

ON/OFF switch 3 clicks upwards and the light goes out. INFORMATION ► This appliance is fi tted with an overheating protector: if the appliance is switched on accidentally, without an y water in the kettle, the appliance automatically switches itself off . If, for example due to a non-closed lid the appliance boils dry, the appliance switches off automatically. In such cases fi rst allow the appliance to cool down before using it again.9 SWKS 2400 D1

Cleaning and Care RISK - ELECTRICAL SHOCK! ► Before cleaning, ALWAYS remove the plug from the mains power socket! There is the risk of r eceiving an electric shock! ► Do not open any part of the housing. There are no user-serviceable elements inside. An open housing will create the risk of a potentially fatal electrical shock. NEVER submerse the appliance in water or other liquids! You could receive a fatal electric shock if residual liquids come into contact with live components during operation. WARNING - RISK OF INJURY! ► Let the appliance cool suffi ciently before cleaning it. Risk of Burns! WARNING - PROPERTY DAMAGE! ► Do not use abrasive or aggressive cleaning materials. These could attack the upper surfaces and irr eparably damage the appliance. ■ Clean the exterior surfaces and the power cable with a slightly damp cloth. Be sure to dr y the appliance well before taking it back into use. For stubborn soiling use a mild detergent on the cloth. Ensure that there are no detergent residues in and on the appliance before it is taken back into use. ■ Rinse the inside of the kettle out with clean water. ■ If there are any deposits in the kettle, wipe out the inside surface with a moist cloth, or use a w ashing up brush or bottle brush. Then rinse the k ettle out with clean water again. In the event of scale deposits: Scale deposits on the bottom of the appliance lead to increased energy con- sumption and reduce the service life of the appliance. Descale the appliance as soon as scale deposits become apparent. ■ Use a descaler designed for household appliances (e.g. for coff ee machines). Proceed as de tailed in the instructions provided for the use of the decalcifying agent. ■ After descaling, rinse the appliance with lots of clean water.10 SWKS 2400 D1

Storage ■ Allow the appliance to cool down completely before putting it into storage. ■ Wind the power cable around the cable winder 5 under the base 4. ■ Store the appliance at a dry location. Troubleshooting Problem Cause Remedy The appliance does not function. The plug is not inserted into a mains power socket. Insert the plug into a mains power socket. The appliance is not switched on. Switch the appliance on. The appliance is over- heated and the overheating protection is active. Allow the appliance to cool down. The ON/OFF switch 3 does not engage. The kettle is not on the base 4. Place the kettle on the base 4. The appliance is defective. In this case, contact Customer Services. Disposal of the appliance Do not dispose of this appliance in your normal domestic waste. This product is subject to the provisions of European Directive 2012/19/EU. Dispose of the appliance through an approved disposal centre or at your com- munity waste facility. Pay heed to the currently applicable regulations. In case of doubt, consult your local disposal facility. Notes on the Declaration of Conformity This appliance complies, in regard to conformance with basic requirements and other relevent regulations, with the EMV Directive 2004/108/EC, as well as the Directive for Low Voltage Devices 2006/95/EC. This appliance has been manufactured with care and meticulously examined before delivery. Please retain your receipt as proof of purchase.
