SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Your Stirogaggia Classic has been designed to provide perfect ironing results thanks to the great quantity of steam produced by the boiler.
• This appliance is designed for home use. It must only be used by adults. Never leave the iron unattended while it is connected to the electrical supply.
IRON WITH STEAM TOE The exclusive steam toe iron represents the latest great ironing innovation introduced by Gaggia. Thanks to the dual steam emission you will be able to achieve optimum ironing performance quickly and effortlessly. In addition to the great quantity of steam from the shoe, there is also a powerful steam jet from the toe of the iron. These features allow you to obtain excellent results, especially when removing creases and wrinkles from the more difficult fabrics. The steam toe is especially useful for ironing thick hems or edging and around buttons and zippers.
• Before plugging in the iron, make sure the outlet voltage matches that indicated on the back of the iron and that the outlet is grounded. Never let any of the live elements come into contact with water. • If the power cord or the combination hose shows signs of damage or deterioration it must immediately be replaced at a specialized Gaggia service center to avoid risk of damage or injury. • The appliance produces a large amount of steam. Never aim the steam jet at yourself or at other persons, animals or delicate materials. • Keep the iron out of reach of children. • Always unplug the appliance before filling it. Do not put the iron directly under running water to fill it. • Do not add chemical products to the water. Never use distilled water; use only demineralized water. • If the steam generator or iron falls or otherwise receives an impact, or does not function properly, take it to an authorized Gaggia service center for assessment by a qualified technician.
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION IRONING ENGLISH USEFUL HINTS Steam ironing
• The use of demineralized water is recommended. • When first used, the iron may emit impure fumes or steam; this is due to the evaporation of substances in the component materials. We recommend that you leave the iron and steam generator on the highest temperature for several minutes and then aim the steam jet at a clean rag before beginning to iron your clothes. • Ironing quality may be optimized by varying the amount of vapor output depending on the type of fabric to be ironed by turning the steam control knob (11). Steam is produced by pressing the steam button. • The ironing surface must be heatresistant and steam-permeable. • Use the iron on a perfectly flat and level surface.
• Turn the iron temperature knob (6) to the steam zone (see symbol, Fig. 2). At this temperature you can steam iron any type of fabric. • When the steam pressure light (12) comes on the iron is ready for use. Before beginning to iron, press the steam button (1) to expel any air from the boiler and steam line. Some water droplets may be ejected in this initial phase. We recommend that you aim the jet initially at a cloth. After a few moments the steam indicator light (12) will come on again and you may begin ironing. During use the steam indicator light (12) will go on and off automatically as steam is consumed. Continue ironing normally. • To obtain steam from the shoe, press the steam button (1). If you want continuous steam from the shoe, hold the button down and slide back the continuous shoe steam lock (2). • To obtain steam from the toe holes (5), press the steam button (3). If you want continuous steam from the toe, hold the button down and slide back the continuous toe steam lock (4).
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FILLING THE BOILER • Unscrew the safety cap (9) and fill boiler with approximately 0,9 liter of water using the special funnel (17). Do not let the tank overflow (see Fig. 1). • Replace the cap and screw it down tightly. • Plug the power cord (14) into a grounded electrical outlet of proper voltage. • Turn the switch (10) to position 2 (power to steam generator + iron). The power-on indicator (7) will light up.
To obtain steam from the shoe and from the toe simultaneously, press the buttons (1) and (3) (see Fig. 3). To have continuous emission, hold the buttons down and slide back the two continuous steam locks (2) and (4).
For optimal results, press the steam buttons (1) and (3) at intervals to optimize steam emission and to allow the ironed fabric to dry.
Dry ironing • To iron without steam simply turn the switch to position 1. • Turn the iron temperature control knob (6) to the desired temperature. • Wait until the temperature light (7) goes off. Proceed with ironing without pressing the steam button (1) since no steam is produced.
Warning: The appliance produces a large amount of steam. Never aim the steam jet at yourself or at other persons, animals or delicate materials. • Exercise extreme caution when using the toe steam jet button (3). • To adjust the steam output to suit fabric type (according to delicacy) rotate the steam knob (11) counterclockwise (increase) or clockwise (decrease) (Fig. 4). • The appliance comes equipped with an iron rest (8) made of temperature resistant material which can be placed on any surface.
• Unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet before carrying out any maintenance. • To clean the appliance, use only a moist cloth. Do not use detergents or solvents as they may damage the surface of the plastic.
WARNINGS Dry tank/refilling An empty tank indicator (13) lights up if the boiler is dry. To refill the tank: • Turn the switch (10) to the position 1 (on the iron). • Press the steam button (1) to expel the remaining steam from the boiler. • Turn the switch (10) to the position 0. • Unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet. • Wait 3-4 minutes to allow the boiler to cool. • Refill the tank as described in the section FILLING THE BOILER. • When refilling a hot boiler, add small amounts of water gradually to avoid instantaneous water vaporization and spitting.
• Should a malfunction occur, never attempt to repair the unit by disassembling it. Take it to an authorized Gaggia service center. • For replacement of the power cord or combination hose take the unit to an authorized Gaggia service center. • Use only original Gaggia replacement parts. • It is recommended that you keep the original packaging for future transport needs. • If the unit is to be disposed of, cut the power cord to render it unusable and deliver it to a proper waste handling facility.
