The start indicator is flashing and the dishwasher won't start - what to do?

If the start indicator is flashing and your BAUKNECHT GSI 4743/3 BR refuses to activate, this usually indicates a safety or power issue. Here are the checks to perform:
Priority Checks
- Door not closed properly - The most common cause. Ensure that the door is properly closed until it clicks. The locking latch must be fully engaged. Close it firmly until you feel resistance.
- Damaged latch or lock - If the door closes but the appliance does not recognize the locking, check that the door latch is not bent or broken. Also inspect the locking mechanism on the dishwasher frame.
- Water supply - Check that the water inlet tap is fully open. A cut water supply will trigger this behavior (flashing indicator without starting).
If nothing works
Try turning off the appliance for a few seconds (cut the power), then turn it back on. This sometimes resets the safety system. If the indicator continues to flash after checking these points, it may be an internal safety fault or a door sensor issue that requires technical intervention.
