Frequently Asked Questions - 975V FLUKE
How do I measure DC voltage?
Turn the rotary dial to the voltage position (V). Select DC (if separate) or ensure the display shows DC. Insert the black lead into the COM jack and the red lead into the VΩmA jack. Connect the leads across the circuit or battery. Read the measurement on the display.
How do I measure resistance?
Set the dial to the resistance function (Ω). Connect the black lead to COM and the red lead to VΩmA. Touch the probes to the resistor or circuit. Ensure the circuit is de-energized. Read the value in ohms.
What does the continuity beep mean?
The beep sounds when the resistance between the probes is less than approximately 50 Ω. This indicates a complete circuit path. Use this function to check wires, fuses, and connections.
How to test a diode?
Turn the dial to the diode symbol. Connect the red lead to the anode and black to the cathode for forward bias. The display shows the forward voltage drop. Reverse the leads to check for open circuit. A good diode shows a forward drop of 0.5–0.8 V and OL (overload) in reverse.
How do I measure AC current?
Set the dial to the appropriate current setting (A, AC). Insert the black lead into COM and the red lead into the 10A jack for high current, or the μA/mA jack for low current. Connect the meter in series with the circuit. Never connect in parallel.
What safety precautions should I take?
Always start with the highest range and work down. Use the correct input jacks and approved test leads. Do not measure voltages exceeding 1000 V. Ensure the meter is in good condition and the battery is fully charged. Use personal protective equipment when working near live circuits.
Why is my multimeter not turning on?
Check the battery. Remove the back cover and replace the 9 V battery if needed. Also check that the fuse is intact, especially if current measurement is not working. If the problem persists, contact Fluke support.
How do I replace the battery?
Turn off the multimeter and disconnect all test leads. Remove the tilt stand and flip the meter over. Slide the battery cover off, replace the old battery with a new 9 V battery (NEDA 1604A), and snap the cover back into place.
Can I measure frequency?
Yes. Turn the dial to the Hz function or press the Hz key (depending on model). Connect the black lead to COM and the red lead to VΩHz. The meter will display the frequency of the AC signal.
How do I clean and maintain the multimeter?
Clean the exterior with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasive chemicals. Keep the terminals clean and free from dirt. Calibrate the meter periodically according to Fluke recommendations to ensure accuracy.
