Frequently Asked Questions - F7417LA On-Q

How do I power on the On-Q F7417LA?
Connect the included 12V DC power adapter to the switch and plug it into a wall outlet. The Power LED will illuminate when powered on.
What do the LED indicators mean?
The Power LED shows the device is on. Each port has a Link/Activity LED: solid green indicates a connection, blinking indicates data activity.
Can I mount the switch on a wall?
Yes, the On-Q F7417LA has mounting slots on the bottom for wall mounting. Use appropriate screws (not included).
How do I connect devices to the switch?
Use Ethernet cables to connect your devices (computers, printers, etc.) to any of the 5 ports. The switch auto-negotiates speed and duplex.

What is the maximum cable length supported?
The switch supports standard Ethernet cable lengths up to 100 meters (328 feet) per segment.
How can I troubleshoot if the switch is not working?
Check power connections, try a different power outlet, verify Ethernet cables are securely connected, and ensure devices are powered on.
Is the switch plug-and-play?
Yes, no configuration is required. Simply connect power and devices; the switch automatically detects and configures settings.
Can I use the switch in a high-temperature environment?
The switch is designed for 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F). Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or near heat sources.
What should I do if I lose the power adapter?
Use only a 12V DC 1A power adapter with a 2.1mm center-positive barrel connector. Using a different adapter may damage the switch.

USER MANUAL F7417LA On-Q

The On-Q /Legrand lyriQ™ Local Source Input, PN F7417-xx (see Figure 1), is an integral part of the On-Q/Legrand lyriQ™ Audio System. It is a component which, when combined with other essential components and your source equipment (receiver, CD player, etc.), creates a versatile whole-house audio system that will fill your rooms with high-quality sound for years to come. Category 5 technology is a new, innovative method of providing high quality audio to remote locations with a single 8-conductor cable such as Cat 5e. This technology provides many advantages over other conventional methods of audio distribution such as simple, single Cat 5e wiring scheme, infrared control of system components, and system power status.

NOTE: The lyriQ™ Local Source Input, like other On-Q/Legrand lyriQ™ Audio system components, is powered by the On-Q/Legrand lyriQ™ Audio Distribution Module.

IMPORTANT: Read the manuals that are included with all associated lyriQ™ Audio products before installation of any single component! If you are unsure of any of the following installation procedures contact On-Q/Legrand Technical Support @ 1-800-321-2343 option 1 or contact an On-Q/Legrand installer.

2. Description

The lyriQ™ Local Source Input allows the system to use a “local” input in any Audio zone. It is connected in series with the volume control by simply terminating the run of Cat 5 cable from the lyriQ™ Distribution Module to the input of the lyriQ™ Local Source Input, and connecting the output of the lyriQ™ Local Source Input to the volume control. The lyriQ™ Local Source Input uses the same 110 style punchdown connection as the volume controls. The lyriQ™ Local Source Input senses the audio signal from a line level audio source such as a CD player, and if it is active, the local source has priority over the main source and will be heard within the zone. When the local source is no longer active or plugged in, the main source will be heard in the zone within 30 seconds.

3. Installation

Installation of the On-Q lyriQ™ Local Source Input is best accomplished in two steps during new construction, at “Rough-in” before the drywall is installed, and at “Trim-out” after the drywall is installed and painted.

NOTE: The On-Q/Legrand lyriQ™ Local Source Input is typically mounted at electrical outlet height. Measure the nearest box on the same wall that the lyriQ™ Local Source Input will be installed and place the J-Box at the same height. Position and cabling must maintain separation of class 2 cable from power wiring. Special applications, such as audio from a TV, entertainment center, or a computer, may require different heights.

A. "Rough-in" steps:

  1. Run Cat 5 cable from the lyriQ™ Single Source 4 Zone Distribution Module located in the Enclosure to the single gang box at the location that will contain the lyriQ™ Local Source Input. Also run Cat 5 cable from the single gang box that will contain the lyriQ™ Local Source Input to the volume control location.

B. "Trim-out" steps:

NOTE: Use a standard punch down tool with a 110 style blade, maintain less than 1/2 of untwisting of pairs, and make sure the 110 blade cuts any excess conductor completely.

  1. Punch down the prewired Cat 5e cable from the lyriQ™ Single Source 4 Zone Distribution Module onto the 110 strip labeled "INPUT" at the bottom of the unit (see Figure 2).
  2. Punch down the prewired Cat 5e cable to the lyriQ™ Volume Control onto the 110 style block labeled "OUTPUT" at the top of the unit (see Figure 2).
  3. The JP1 header next to the "OUTPUT" 110 strip is set to the "KNOB" (pins 2 and 3 jumpered) position by default and this position is suitable for knob only or mixed knob and keypad systems. If the system uses keypad volume controls only, move JP1 to the "KEYPAD" (pins 1 and 2 jumpered) position.
  4. Mounting: Use the included screws to install the lyriQ™ Local Source Input into a standard single gang box and use a standard Decorator style cover.

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING THE IyriQ™ AUDIO SYSTEM.

  • Do not attempt to service, move or change any component of this system unless you are qualified to do so.
  • This system should be installed by a qualified installer and must conform to all local building and electrical codes.
  • Do not apply power to the lyriQ™ Audio System until all components have been installed and all wiring has been properly terminated.
  • Do not attempt to terminate, change or un-install any wiring without first turning off power to the lyriQ™ Audio System which is located in the enclosure. Unplug the power transformer that is powering the lyriQ™ Audio System from the power outlet before proceeding with wiring terminations or changes.
  • Install each component of this system away from heat sources such as HVAC ducts/registers, stoves or any other heat source.
