The Sennheiser E835 is a professional XLR dynamic microphone that cannot be connected directly via USB to a computer. You must use an audio interface with an XLR input or an XLR to USB adapter to establish the connection.
Here’s how to proceed:
- Required equipment: Connect your E835 microphone (XLR connector) to an audio interface (external sound card with XLR input) or a USB adapter. The E835 does not require phantom power as it is a dynamic microphone. Then connect the interface or adapter to your computer via USB.
- Check connections: Ensure that all XLR cables are securely plugged in on both ends. Check that the audio interface is recognized by your system (a LED light or indicator on the device should confirm the connection).
Configure Windows: Click on the volume icon at the bottom right, then on “Advanced sound settings.” Go to the “Recording” tab and select your audio interface as the default recording device. Make sure the volume slider on the interface is turned up (it should not be at minimum).
Configure macOS: Open “System Preferences” > “Sound” > “Input.” Select your audio interface from the list. If you do not have access to your interface, install the drivers provided by the interface manufacturer.
Test your microphone: Open a recording application (Audacity, GarageBand, built-in voice recorder) and check that the microphone sound is being captured. Adjust the gain on your interface (usually a potentiometer or slider) until you achieve an optimal level without clipping. The E835 has a sensitivity of 2.7 mV/Pa, a good signal level should not be difficult to obtain.
If your audio interface is still not detected after these steps, check that the USB drivers for the interface are up to date by visiting the manufacturer's website. As a last resort, restart your computer to force a reset of the USB connections.
