Frequently Asked Questions - SuperServer 1028U-TNRTP+ Supermicro
How do I access the IPMI interface for the first time?
Connect to the dedicated IPMI LAN port, set your PC to the same subnet (default IP is 192.168.1.2), open a browser and enter the IP. Default credentials are ADMIN / ADMIN. Change them immediately for security.
What type of memory is supported?
The server supports DDR4 ECC Registered (RDIMM) or Load Reduced (LRDIMM) memory, up to 1.5TB total in 16 slots. Use modules rated for 2666/2400/2133 MHz.
Can I install a GPU card?
Yes, the server has two PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots. However, due to power and thermal constraints, only single-width GPUs up to 150W are recommended. The slots are full-height, half-length.
How to update BIOS or firmware?
Download the latest BIOS/IPMI firmware from the Supermicro support page. Use the SUMC (SuperUpdate Manager) tool or the IPMI web interface to apply updates. Always back up current settings first.
What is the default administrator password?
The default BIOS password is ADMIN (all caps). For IPMI, the default username and password are both ADMIN. It is strongly recommended to change these on initial setup.
How do I identify the components inside the chassis?
Refer to the Quick Reference Guide on the inside of the top cover. The manual provides detailed layouts of the motherboard, drive bays, and connectors.
What is the maximum power consumption?
With dual high-end processors and fully populated memory/storage, the system can draw up to 800-1000W under load. The redundant 1600W PSUs provide ample headroom.
Can I mix SAS and SATA drives in the same system?
Yes, the backplane supports both SAS3 and SATA3 drives. However, mixing drive types in a RAID array is not recommended. Use the same interface for optimal performance.
How to reset IPMI to factory defaults?
You can reset IPMI by powering off the server, pressing and holding the IPMI Reset button (if present) for 10 seconds, or via the IPMI web interface under Maintenance > Factory Defaults.
What RAID configurations are supported?
The server supports software RAID (Intel VROC) and optional hardware RAID controllers. Common levels: 0, 1, 5, 6, 10. For hardware RAID, install an add-in controller in a PCIe slot.
