Frequently Asked Questions - T/9x REL Acoustics
How to connect the REL T/9x subwoofer to a stereo amplifier?
Use the supplied high-level cable with Neutrik Speakon connector. Connect one end to the subwoofer (input High Level Input) and the other to your amplifier's speaker terminals (respect polarity). Connect the wires to the positive and negative terminals of the amp.
What phase setting should I use?
Set the phase selector to 0° or 180° depending on acoustic integration. To find the best position, listen to a bass source and toggle between the two positions. Choose the one that gives the most natural and balanced reproduction.
How to adjust the low-pass filter crossover frequency?
Turn the Low Pass Filter knob to cut frequencies above the desired value (30 to 120 Hz). Generally, set it to the natural frequency of your main speakers (e.g., 80 Hz). Listen and adjust for a smooth transition.
My subwoofer produces no sound, what should I do?
First check that the power cord is plugged in and the switch is set to On. Make sure the volume is not at minimum. Check the signal connection (high-level or low-level cable). Try toggling the phase.
Can I use the REL T/9x with a home theater system?
Yes, it has an LFE (Low Frequency Effects) input. Connect the subwoofer output of your home theater amplifier to this input. Set the subwoofer's low-pass filter to the highest position (120 Hz) to let the receiver handle the crossover.
What type of cable should I use for the low-level connection?
Use a standard RCA cable. Connect one end to the subwoofer output of your source (preamp or amp) and the other to the Low Level Input of the subwoofer. For an LFE connection, use a single RCA cable on the LFE input.
How to clean the subwoofer?
Unplug the device. Use a soft, dry cloth to dust the cabinet. Never use chemicals or abrasive products. For stubborn marks, lightly dampen the cloth with water.
The thermal protection activates, why?
The subwoofer may overheat if the volume is pushed very high for a long time or if ventilation is obstructed. Turn off the device, let it cool for 30 minutes, then reduce the volume and ensure adequate ventilation around the subwoofer.
Can I place the subwoofer in a closed cabinet?
It is not recommended to place it in a closed space without ventilation. The rear heatsink and amplifier need air circulation. If you must enclose it, provide at least 10 cm of free space around.
How to optimize the subwoofer placement in the room?
Place it in a corner to reinforce bass, or along a wall for balance. Avoid the center of the room. Experiment with listening at different positions and use the crawling method (move around the room) to find the best sound.
