How to install the AstralPool Optima pump?
Place the pump on a flat and stable base, near the pool and the filtration system. Connect the pipes respecting the inlet and outlet direction (indicated by arrows). Connect the power supply to a 230V outlet protected by a residual current circuit breaker. For full details, refer to the installation diagram in the manual.
How to clean the pump pre-filter?
Turn off the power supply to the pump. Unscrew the transparent pre-filter cover counterclockwise. Remove the basket and empty it of debris. Rinse the basket with clean water. Put the basket back, check the seal and screw the cover back on. Never operate the pump without the basket.
What to do if the pump does not start?
First check the power supply: circuit breaker, outlet, cable. Then make sure the thermal protection has not tripped (wait 15 minutes for automatic reset). Check that water is reaching the pump and that the pre-filter is not clogged. Finally, check the starting capacitor. If the problem persists, contact an AstralPool approved service.
What type of oil to use for the motor?
The AstralPool Optima pump requires no motor oil maintenance because it is equipped with a sealed for life motor without external lubrication. Do not attempt to open the motor housing.
The pump makes an abnormal noise, what to do?
An unusual noise may come from cavitation (lack of water), a clogged pre-filter, a worn bearing or a blocked pump body. Start by bleeding the air by opening the bleed valve. Check the water level and the condition of the basket. If the noise persists, disassemble the volute to inspect the impeller.
What is the maximum allowed water temperature?
The AstralPool Optima pump is designed for water temperatures from 5°C to 40°C. Beyond that, the mechanical seal may be damaged and the motor may overheat. Do not use it for hot or boiling water.
How to winterize the pump?
Completely drain the pump by removing the drain plugs (located on the pump body). Clean the pre-filter and store it away from frost. Reinstall the plugs without overtightening. Store the pump indoors or protect it with a suitable protective cover.
What are the common wear parts?
The parts subject to wear are the mechanical seal (between motor and impeller), the O-ring of the pre-filter cover, the starting capacitor and the impeller in case of foreign object suction. These parts are available as a repair kit.
Can I run the pump dry?
No, the AstralPool Optima pump must never run dry. Lack of water quickly damages the mechanical seal and can destroy the motor. Install a water level protector if necessary.
