PART - 2. THE VARIOUS FUNCTION AND POSSIBILITIES

Thermostat setting

Super switch / Low ambient Switch (In some models) Thermostat knob Lamp cover

The fridge freezer thermostat automatically regulates the inside temperature of the compartments. By rotating the knob from position 1 to 5, colder temperatures can be obtained.

Important note: Do not try to rotate knob beyond 1 position it will stop your appliance.

1 - 2 : For short-term storage of food in the freezer compartment, you can set the knob between the minimum and medium position.

3 - 4 : For long-term storage of food in the freezer compartment, you can set the knob to the medium position.

5: For freezing fresh food. The appliance will work for longer. So, after the desired condition is reached, return the knob to the previous setting.

Super freezing: This switch shall be used as superfreeze switch. For maximum freezing capacity, please turn on this switch before 24 hours placing fresh food. After placing fresh food in the freezer, 24 hours ON position is generally sufficient. In order to save energy, please turn off this switch after 24 hours from placing fresh food.

Winter Switch: If ambient temperature is below 16°C, this switch shall be used as winter switch and it keeps your fridge above 0°C while freezer is below -18°C in low ambiants.

Warnings about temperature adjustments

  • It is not recommended that you operate your fridge freezer in environments colder than 10°C in terms of its efficiency.
  • Temperature adjustments should be made according to the frequency of door openings and the quantity of food kept inside the fridge freezer.
  • When you first switch on the appliance, you should ideally try to run it without any food in for 24 hours and not open the door. If you need to use it straight away, try not to put a large quantity of food inside.
  • A 5 minute delay function is included to prevent damage to the compressor of your fridge freezer, when you unplug it and then plug it in again to operate it, or when an energy breakdown occurs. Your fridge freezer will start to operate normally after 5 minutes.
  • Your fridge freezer is designed to operate in the ambient temperature intervals stated in the standards, according to the climate class stated in the information label. It is not recommended that your fridge freezer is operated in the environments which are out of the stated temperature intervals. This will reduce the cooling efficiency of the fridge.

All written and visual descriptions in the accessories may vary according to the appliance model.

Temperature indicator (on some models)

To help you set your refrigerator correctly, it is equipped with a temperature indicator located in the coldest area.

To store food better, especially in the coldest area, make sure the message “OK” appears on the temperature indicator. If “OK” does not appear, the temperature setting has not been adjusted properly.

Since “OK” appears in black, it may be difficult to see if the indicator is poorly lit. Ensure there is adequate light to read it.

OK

After each adjustment of the temperature control, wait for the internal temperature to stabilize before making further changes, if needed. Adjust the temperature control gradually and wait at least 12 hours before checking again and making further adjustments.

NOTE: After frequent or prolonged door openings, or after placing fresh food inside, it is normal for “OK” not to appear on the temperature indicator. If abnormal ice crystals form on the refrigerator compartment evaporator (due to overloading, high room temperature, or frequent door openings), set the temperature control to a lower position until the compressor off periods resume.

Storing food in the coldest area of the refrigerator

Warning symbol with exclamation mark and circular dot, no text.

Your food will be stored better if placed in the most appropriate cooling area. The coldest area is just above the crisper.

The following symbol indicates the coldest area of your refrigerator.

To ensure a low temperature in this area, make sure the shelf is positioned at the level of this symbol, as shown in the illustration.

The upper limit of the coldest area is indicated by the lower edge of the sticker (arrowhead). The shelf above the coldest area must be at the same level as the arrowhead. The coldest area is below this level.

Since these shelves are removable, ensure they are always aligned with the zone limits indicated on the stickers to maintain the correct temperatures.

Each type of food has an ideal storage temperature and therefore a specific place in the appliance.

PART 3: ARRANGING FOOD IN THE APPLIANCE

Refrigerator compartment

  • To reduce humidity and the consequent increase in frost, never place liquids in unsealed containers in the fridge compartment. Frost tends to concentrate in the coldest parts of the evaporating liquid and in time more frequent defrosting will be required.
  • Never place warm food in the fridge compartment. Warm food should be allowed to cool at room temperature and should be arranged to ensure adequate air circulation in the fridge compartment.
  • Nothing should touch the back wall of the appliance as it will cause frost and packaging to stick to it. Do not open the fridge door too frequently.
  • Arrange meat and cleaned fish (wrapped in packages or sheets of plastic) which you intend to use in 1-2 days, in the bottom section of the fridge compartment.
  • Store fruit and vegetable items loose in the crisper containers.
  • For normal working conditions, it will be sufficient to adjust the temperature setting of your refrigerator to +4°C.
  • The temperature of the fridge compartment should be in the range of 0-8 °C. Fresh foods below 0 °C are iced and rotted, bacterial load increases above 8 °C, and spoils.
  • Do not put hot food in the refrigerator immediately; wait for the temperature to pass outside. Hot foods increase the degree of your refrigerator and cause food poisoning and unnecessary spoiling of the food.
  • Meat, fish, etc. should be stored in the chiller compartment of the food, and the vegetable compartment is preferred for vegetables (if available).
  • To prevent cross contamination, meat products and fruit vegetables are not stored together.
  • Foods should be placed in the refrigerator in closed containers or covered to prevent moisture and odors.

Freezer compartment

  • The use of freezer is for storing deep-frozen or frozen foods for long periods of time and making ice cubes.
  • To freeze fresh food, ensure that as much of the surface as possible of food to be frozen is in contact with the cooling surface.
  • Do not put fresh food with frozen side by side as it can thaw the frozen food.

- While freezing fresh foods (i.e., meat, fish, and mincemeat), divide them into portions that you will use at one time.

- Once the unit has been defrosted, replace the foods into the freezer and remember to consume them within as short a period of time as possible.

- Never place warm food in the freezer compartment, as it will disturb the frozen foods.

- For storing frozen foods, the instructions shown on frozen food packages should always be followed carefully. If no information is provided, food should not be stored for more than 3 months from the purchase date.

- When buying frozen foods, ensure that they have been frozen at suitable temperatures and that the packaging is intact.

- Frozen foods should be transported in appropriate containers to maintain the quality of the food and should be returned to the freezing surfaces of the unit in the shortest possible time.

  • If a package of frozen food shows signs of humidity and abnormal swelling, it is probable that it has been previously stored at an unsuitable temperature and that the contents have deteriorated.
  • The storage life of frozen foods depends on the room temperature, thermostat setting, how often the door is opened, the type of food, and the length of time required to transport the product from the shop to your home. Always follow the instructions printed on the package and never exceed the maximum storage life indicated.

Note that if you want to open the freezer door again immediately after closing it, it will not open easily. This is quite normal! After reaching equilibrium condition, the door will open easily.

Suggestion for Food Storage:

  • It is suggested to set the temperature at 4°C in the fridge compartment, and, if possible, at -18°C in the freezer compartment.
  • For most food categories, the longest storage time in the fridge compartment is achieved with colder temperatures. Since some particular products (such as fresh fruits and vegetables) may be damaged by colder temperatures, it is suggested to keep them in the crisper drawers, whenever present. If not present, maintain an average setting of the thermostat.
  • For frozen food, refer to the storage time written on the food packaging. This storage time is achieved whenever the setting respects the reference temperatures of the compartment (one-star -6°C, two stars -12°C, three stars -18°C).
  • Set the knob to a low/medium position, up to 3, for short-term storage of food in the appliance.
  • Set the knob to a medium position, 3 or 4, for long-term storage of food in the appliance.
  • Set the knob to position 5 for freezing fresh food. The appliance will run at colder temperatures.

Defrosting

Fridge compartment:

Technical line drawing of a mechanical component with an inset showing a close-up of a hand operating a workpiece, no text or symbols present.

  • Defrosting occurs automatically in the refrigerator compartment during operation; the water is collected by the evaporation tray and evaporates automatically.
  • The evaporation tray and the water drain hole should be cleaned periodically with the defrost drain plug to prevent the water from collecting at the bottom of the refrigerator instead of flowing out.
  • You can also clean the drain hole by pouring 1/2 glass of water down it.

Freezer compartment:

The frost accumulated in the freezer compartment should be removed periodically (use the plastic scraper provided). The freezer compartment should be cleaned in the same way as the refrigerator compartment, and the defrost function of the compartment should be used at least twice a year.

For this:

  • The day before you defrost, set the thermostat dial to the "5" position to freeze the food completely.
  • During defrosting, frozen food should be wrapped in several layers of paper and kept in a cool place. The inevitable rise in temperature will shorten its storage life. Remember to use this food within a relatively short period of time.
  • Set the thermostat knob to the "•" position or unplug the unit. Leave the door open until the unit is completely defrosted. To accelerate the defrosting process, one or more bowls of warm water can be placed in the freezer compartment.
  • Dry the inside of the unit carefully and set the thermostat knob to the MAX position.

Replacing the light bulb

Technical line drawing of a handheld device with two views: top shows internal components, bottom shows internal structure (no text or symbols)

To replace the bulb in the fridge compartment:

1- Unplug your fridge freezer. 2- Remove the cover of the box from the claws using a screwdriver. 3- Replace with a bulb of maximum 15 Watts. 4- Install the cover. 5- Wait for 5 minutes before re-plugging and bring the thermostat to its original position.

If your fridge is operating too loudly

Normal Noises

Compressor noise

  • Normal motor noise: This noise means that the compressor operates normally
  • Compressor may cause more noise for a short time when it starts.

Bubbling noise and splash:

  • This noise is caused by the flow of the refrigerant in the tubes of the system.
  • If you hear any other noises check that:
  • The appliance is level
  • Nothing is touching the rear of the appliance
  • The objects on the appliance are vibrating.

If there is water in the lower part of the refrigerator,

Check that:

- The drain hole for the water is not clogged (use the defrost drain plug to clean the drain hole).

Recommendations

- If you do not intend to use the appliance for a long time (for example during the summer holidays), unplug and clean the appliance and leave the door open to prevent the formation of mildew and smells.

  • To stop the appliance completely, unplug it from the main socket (for cleaning and when the doors are left open).
  • If a problem persists after you have followed all the instructions above, please consult the nearest Authorised Service Centre.
  • The lifetime of your appliance is stated and declared by the Department of Industry. The length of time for retaining parts required for the proper operation of the appliance is 10 years.

Tips For Saving Energy

  1. For better energy saving we suggest:
  2. Installing the appliance away from heat sources and not exposed to direct sunlight and in a well ventilated room.
