Frequently Asked Questions - SCR-DI AMPEG
How do I power the SCR-DI?
You can power the SCR-DI using a standard 9V DC adapter (center negative, 150 mA minimum) or via 48V phantom power through the XLR output. Do not use both simultaneously.
What is the Scrambler control?
The Scrambler is an analog overdrive circuit inspired by the classic Ampeg SVT. Use the Level knob to adjust overall output and Blend to mix dry and overdriven signals.
How do I connect to a PA or mixer?
Connect a balanced XLR cable from the SCR-DI's XLR output to your mixer or PA input. Use the Pre/Post switch to select whether the XLR signal is affected by the EQ and Scrambler.
Can I use the SCR-DI with a guitar amp?
Yes, you can use the 1/4" output to connect to a bass or guitar amp. The SCR-DI is designed for bass but works fine with electric guitar.
How do I use the effects loop?
Connect your effect pedal's output to the Return jack and the pedal's input to the Send jack. This inserts external effects into the signal path after the preamp.
What does the Ground Lift switch do?
The Ground Lift switch disconnects pin 1 of the XLR from the chassis ground to eliminate hum caused by ground loops when connecting to mixers or DI boxes.
Can I use headphones?
Yes, plug your headphones into the 1/8" headphone output. The built-in speaker simulation provides a realistic sound for silent practice.
How do I connect an external audio source?
Use the 1/8" Aux Input to connect a phone, MP3 player, or laptop for backing tracks. The signal mixes with your bass before the headphone output.
What should I do if there is no sound?
Check the power supply (9V adapter or phantom), volume levels, and cable connections. Ensure the Mute button (if present) is not engaged. Verify your bass cable is plugged into the Input jack.
Is the SCR-DI compatible with active basses?
Yes, the SCR-DI has a high input impedance (1 MΩ) that works well with both passive and active basses. Active basses may require the Pad switch (if available) to prevent clipping.
