Frequently Asked Questions - CF-174ELF Vivax

How to adjust the temperature on Vivax CF-174ELF?
Locate the thermostat dial inside the fridge compartment. Turn it clockwise for cooler temperatures and counterclockwise for warmer. For freezer, adjust the separate dial if available. Recommended settings: 4-5 for fridge, 3-4 for freezer.
How to defrost the freezer?
When ice builds up to 5-10 mm, turn off the appliance and remove all food. Leave the freezer door open to allow ice to melt. Place towels to absorb water. Do not use sharp tools to remove ice. Once defrosted, wipe dry and restart.
The fridge is not cooling properly, what should I do?
Check if the thermostat is set correctly. Ensure the door is fully closed and not obstructed. Clean the condenser coils at the back. Verify the appliance is not in direct sunlight or near heat sources. If problem persists, contact service.
How to reverse the door on CF-174ELF?
Unplug the fridge. Remove the top hinge cover, unscrew hinges, and remove the door. Swap hinge brackets to the opposite side. Reattach the door, aligning it properly. Tighten screws and replace covers. Refer to the manual for detailed steps.
What does the error code E1 mean?
Error code E1 typically indicates a temperature sensor failure. Unplug the appliance for 5 minutes, then restart. If error persists, the sensor may need replacement. Contact a qualified technician.
Why is water leaking from the fridge?
Check the defrost drain for blockages. Clean with a pipe cleaner. Also ensure the appliance is level and the door seals are intact. Overfilling may cause condensation. If leaking continues, inspect the water tray or call service.
How to clean the fridge interior?
Unplug the appliance. Remove all food and shelves. Wash interior with a mild detergent and warm water solution. Rinse and dry thoroughly. For stubborn stains, use a baking soda paste. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
How much electricity does the fridge consume?
The Vivax CF-174ELF has an energy class A+ with an estimated annual consumption of about 180-200 kWh. Actual consumption depends on usage, ambient temperature, and door openings.
Can I use an extension cord with the fridge?
It is not recommended. The fridge requires a dedicated power outlet. If an extension cord is necessary, use a heavy-duty cord rated for at least 10A and ensure it is fully unwound to prevent overheating.
How to set up the fridge for the first time?
After unpacking, let the fridge stand upright for 2-3 hours before plugging in. Place it on a level surface away from heat sources. Clean interior. Set thermostat to medium. Wait 2-4 hours for temperature stabilization before adding food.

Warm food must not be placed in the refrigerator until cool to room temperature.

It is recommended that foods are tightly closed (in a container or plastic bag) before placing into refrigerator.

Shelves can be moved by the amount of space inside the refrigerator in order to optimally organize space.

Freezer is used for a long storage of food (up to 6 months).

For additional information about possible storage duration, check the packaging of the product or food.

Never freeze again already thawed food.

Tips for Keeping Food in the Unit

◆ Store raw meat and fish in suitable containers in the refrigerator, so that it is not in contact with or drip onto other food. Cooked meats/fishes should always be stored on a shelf above raw meats/fishes to avoid bacterial transfer. Keep raw meats/fishes in a container which is large enough to collect juices and cover it properly. Place the container on the lowest shelf. Leave space around your food, to allow air to circulate inside the unit. Ensure all parts of the unit are kept cool. ◆ To prevent transfer of favors and drying out, pack or cover the food separately. Fruit and vegetables do not need to be wrapped. ◆ Always let pre-cooked food cool down before you put in the unit. This will help to maintain the internal temperature of the unit. ◆ To avoid contamination of the food, please respect the following instructions:

  • Opening the door for long periods can cause a significant increase in the temperature in the compartments of the appliance.
  • Clean regularly surfaces that can come in contact with food and accessible drainage systems.
  • Clean water tanks if they have not been used for 48 hours; flush the water system connected to a water supply if water has not been drawn for 5 days.
  • To prevent cold air escaping from the unit, try to limit the number of times you open the door. We recommend that you only open the door when you need to put food in or take food out.

- In case your device has a freezing compartment with 4 stars, this refrigerating appliance is suitable for freezing foodstuffs.

In case your device has a freezing compartment with 1, 2, or 3 stars, this refrigerating appliance is NOT suitable for freezing foodstuffs.

  • Two-star frozen-food compartments are suitable for storing pre-frozen food, storing or making ice cream, and making ice cubes.
  • One-, two-, and three-star compartments are not suitable for the freezing of fresh food.
  • If the refrigerating appliance is left empty for long periods, switch off, defrost, clean, dry, and leave the door open to prevent mould developing within the appliance.

The First Start

Cleaning Before Use

Wipe the inside of the unit with a weak solution of bicarbonate soda. Then rinse with warm water using a 'wrung-out' sponge or cloth. Wash the shelves and salad bin in warm soapy water and dry completely before replacing in the unit.

Clean the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth.

If you require more information, refer to the Cleaning section.

Vivax CF-174ELF - Cleaning Before Use - 2

Before Plugging In

You must check that you have a socket which is compatible with the plug supplied with the unit.

Before Turning On!

Do not turn on until one hour after moving the unit.

The refrigerator shall run 2 to 3 hours before loading fresh or frozen foods; the refrigerator shall run for more than 4 hours in summer in advance considering that the ambient temperature is high.

Operation

Switching On Your Unit

◆ The temperature selector knob is located inside of the refrigerator compartment.

When the Thermostat knob is turned up to the end position, below the "Min" position (1), the Refrigerator will stop cooling.

Setting "MIN" (1-2): Less Cool Temperature

Setting "MED" (3-4): Normal Operation (adequate for most situations)

Setting "MAX" (5-6): Coolest Temperature

1 2 3

During high ambient temperatures, e.g., on hot summer days, it may be necessary to set the thermostat to the coolest setting (position "MAX" (5-6), turn knob clockwise). This may cause the compressor to run continuously in order to maintain a low temperature in the cabinet. ◆ For the first time you install your refrigerator, set the thermostat knob at "MED" (3-4) (middle position).

Give your freezer time to cool down completely before adding food. It is best to wait 24 hours before adding food. The thermostat knob controls the temperature.

◆ When the thermostat control knob is set to OFF position, the refrigerator will be running.

WARNING: In the lowest thermostat position, although the fridge is not cooling, it does not mean that the device is disconnected from the power supply. For cleaning and maintenance, to disconnect the power supply, pull the power plug out of the socket!

Noise Inside the Unit!

You may notice that your unit makes some unusual noises. Most of these are perfectly normal, but you should be aware of them!

These noises are caused by the circulation of the refrigerant liquid in the cooling system. It has become more pronounced since the introduction of CFC-free gases. This is not a fault and will not affect the performance of your unit. This is the compressor motor working, as it pumps the refrigerant around the system.

Change the Light Bulb

The LED lamp must be replaced by authorized service. Please contact authorized service or manufacturer.

  • Remove all the shelves and the salad bin. To remove the salad bin, first remove the lower door shelf. Wipe the inside of the unit with a weak solution of bicarbonate soda and then rinse with
  • warm water using a "wrung-out" sponge or cloth. Wipe completely dry before replacing the shelves and salad bin. Use a damp cloth to clean the exterior, and then wipe with a standard furniture polish. Make
  • sure that the door is closed to avoid the polish getting on the magnetic door seal or inside the unit.
  • The grille of the condenser at the back of the unit and the adjacent components can be vacuumed using a soft brush attachment.

Cleaning Tips

Condensation may appear on the outside of the unit. This may be due to a change in room temperature. Wipe off any moisture residue. If the problem continues, please contact a qualified technician for assistance.

Do not use hard brushes, steel balls, wire brushes, abrasives, such as toothpastes, organic solvents (such as alcohol, acetone, banana oil, etc.), boiling water, acid or alkaline items to clean the refrigerator, considering that this may damage the fridge surface and interior.

Do not rinse with water so as not to affect the electrical insulation properties. Please use a dry cloth when cleaning lighting lamps, temperature control knob and electrical components.

Defrost

Defrost the freezing compartment whenever the layer of frost on the surface of the evaporator reaches 3 or 4 mm.

  1. Set the thermostat at "OFF" position and disconnect the refrigerator from main supply.
  2. Remove drawers with frozen food. Store frozen food in a cold place.
  3. Put the drip tray under the evaporator to collect melted water. To improve melting, you can put a bowl with hot water inside the compartment.
  4. After the frost has melted, discard the melted water and clean all the interior.
  5. Dry up the interior of the refrigerator.
  6. Put drawers into the compartment and put back frozen foods.
  7. Plug in the refrigerator to the main supply and turn the thermostat to the desired setting.

It is recommended that you use frozen food as soon as possible.

Vivax CF-174ELF - Defrost - 1

Do not use metal utensils or electric heaters for defrosting so as not to damage the appliance.

Please remove the food and put it in a cool place when defrosting before removing drawers and other accessories.

Switching Off for Long Periods of Time

Foods can be preserved for a couple of hours even in summer in case of power failure; it is recommended to reduce the frequency of opening the door and do not put fresh foods into the freezer.

When the unit is not in use for a long period of time, disconnect it from the mains supply, empty all food and clean the appliance. Keep the door open to avoid bad odor.

Vivax CF-174ELF - Switching Off for Long Periods of Time - 1

Continuous operation is recommended when the refrigerator is started.

Frequently asked questions

The following simple issues can be handled by the user. Please call the after-sale service department if the issues are not settled.

Refrigerator is not workWhether the freezer is plugged and connected to power; Low voltage;Failure power or tripping circuit
OdorOdorous foods should closely wrapped; Whether foods are rotten;Whether the interior shall be cleaned
Foods in the refrigerating chamber are frozenWhether the thermostat is over adjusted; Whether foods containing water is put in inside the glass partition.
Long-term operation of compressorIt is normal that refrigerator operates for longer time in summer when the ambient temperature is higher; Do not put too much food in the freezer at one time; Do not put foods until they are cooled;Frequent opening of refrigerator door.
The refrigerator door cannot be properly closed. The freezer door is stuck by food packages; Too much food; Tilt refrigerator.
Loud noisesWhether the food is leveled, whether the refrigerator is balanced;Whether the refrigerator parts are properly placed.

Warm tips:

The refrigerator enclosure may emit heat during operation, especially in summer. This is caused by the radiation of the condenser, and it is a normal phenomenon. Condensation: condensation phenomenon will be detected on the exterior surface and door seals of the freezer when the ambient humidity is large. This is a normal phenomenon, and the condensation can be wiped away with a dry towel. Airflow sound: Refrigerants circulating in the refrigerant lines will produce eruption of sound and grunts, which is normal and does not affect the cooling effect. ◆ Buzz: Buzz will be generated by running compressor, especially when starting up or shutting down. ◆ Clatter: The solenoid valve or electric switch valve will clatter, which is a normal phenomenon and does not affect the operation. The refrigerating chamber will periodically frost and defrost (water drops will be generated on the backside of the refrigerating chamber when defrosting), which are normal.

Tips for Energy Savings

Try not to open the door too often, especially when the weather is wet and hot. Once you open the door, close it as soon as possible.

Every now and then check if the appliance is sufficiently ventilated (adequate air circulation behind the appliance).

In normal temperature conditions, please arrange the thermostat at the middle setting.

Before loading the appliance with packages of fresh food, make sure they are cooled to ambient temperature.

Ice and frost layer increase energy consumption, so clean the appliance as soon as the layer is 3-5 mm thick.

If it is the outer condenser, the rear wall should be always clean free of dust or any impurities.

- The appliance should be located in the coolest area of the room, away from heat producing appliances or heating ducts, and out of the direct sunlight.

◆ Let hot foods cool to room temperature before placing in the appliance.

◆ Overloading the appliance forces the compressor to run longer.

◆ Foods that freeze too slowly may lose quality, or spoil.

- Be sure to wrap foods properly, and wipe containers dry before placing them in the appliance. This cuts down on frost build-up inside the appliance.

◆ Appliance storage bin should not be lined with aluminum foil, wax paper, or paper toweling. Liners interfere with cold air circulation, making the appliance less efficient.

◆ Organize and label food to reduce door openings and extended searches.

◆ Remove as many items as needed at one time, and close the door as soon as possible
