Press the release button on the dust container and remove it. Hold over a bin and press the bottom release button to empty. Rinse with water if needed and let dry completely before reinserting.
How often should I clean the filters?
Clean the pre-motor filter every 3-4 months and the HEPA filter every 6 months. Rinse with cold water and air dry for 24 hours before reinstalling.
Why is the suction power reducing?
Check for blockages in the hose, tube, or floor nozzle. Also ensure the dust container is not full and filters are clean. If the problem persists, the filter may need replacement.
Can I use the vacuum on hard floors?
Yes, the floor nozzle has a brush that can be turned off for hard floors to avoid scattering dust. The vacuum is suitable for both carpets and hard floors.

  • To enable recycling, the plastics of the product have been coded.
  • The cardboard packaging has been made of recycled material and is entirely suitable for recycling.

Important

  • Before using for the first time, check if the dustbag is placed correctly.
  • Never suck up water (or any other liquid). Never pick up ashes until they are cold.
  • When picking up fine dust, the pores of the dustbag may become clogged. This will obstruct the air passage. Subsequently, the dustbag needs replacement, although the bag might be far from full.
  • Never use the vacuum cleaner without the motor protection filter. This could damage the motor and shorten the life of your vacuum cleaner.
  • Only use Philips s-bag™ double-layer paper dustbags (FC 8021) or Philips Sydney+ double-layer paper dustbags (type HR 6999 Sydney+), or the cotton dustbag provided (some versions only).
  • If the mains cord of this appliance is damaged, it must only be replaced by Philips or their service representative, as special tools and/or parts are required.

Please note that * in the illustration numbers means: this illustration applies to special models only.

How to use

  • Connecting the hose: push in and rotate clockwise (fig. 1, 2).
  • To disconnect: rotate anti-clockwise (fig. 3).
  • To connect the nozzle, the telescopic tube and the handgrip: insert the narrowed section

into the wider section while turning it a little (fig. 4).

To disconnect: pull the narrow section out of the wider section while turning it a little.

- To adjust the telescopic tube to the required length: grasp the plastic ring and pull out the upper tube as far as necessary (fig. 5). Lock the telescopic tube in position by releasing the plastic ring. Specific types only.

  • Nozzles:
  • Combi nozzle. This nozzle is convertible for use on either carpets (without brush, fig. 6) or hard floors (with brush, fig. 7);
  • Small nozzle, brush nozzle and crevice nozzle. These can be found in the special storage compartment (fig.8-11);
  • Adjusting the suction power: (fig.12-13).

Insufficient suction power?

Please check:

  • if the slide on the vacuum cleaner is in the required position;
  • if the control at the hand grip is in "open" position;
  • if the dustbag is full;
  • if the nozzle, tube or hose is blocked up. To remove the obstruction, disconnect the blocked-up item and connect it (as far as possible) in adverse position. Then the air will stream through the item in opposite direction.

Park

If you wish to interrupt vacuum cleaning, you can place the tube clip into the rest (fig. 14).

You can slide the clip along the tube to change the height.

In one movement the tube is parked in a convenient position (fig. 15).

Storage

  • Switch the vacuum cleaner off.
  • Remove the mains plug from the wall socket.
  • Rewind the mains cord by pressing the cordwinder pedal (◎)
  • Hitch the lower tube onto the vacuum cleaner (fig. 16-17). You can slide the clip along the tube to change the height.

Replacing the dustbag

Replace the dustbag as soon as the “dustbag full indicator” becomes red, even when the nozzle is not placed on a surface (fig. 18).

  • Switch the vacuum cleaner off.
  • Open the cover (fig. 19).
  • Push the dustbag holder backwards (fig. 20).

- Remove the full dustbag by pulling the cardboard tag (fig. 21).

This automatically closes the dustbag.

- Slide the cardboard front plate of the new dustbag into the two slots of the dustbag holder as far as possible (fig. 22).

- Push the dustbag holder forwards ("Click!") (fig. 23).

Note that it is not possible to close the cover when no dustbag has been placed.

- Philips s-bag` dustbags are available under type number FC 8021 from your dealer. Please refer to the type number.

Cotton dustbag

Instead of the paper dustbags you can use the cotton dustbag if provided. It can be emptied and used repeatedly. For removing and placing the cotton dustbag simply follow the same instructions as those for the paper bag.

You empty your cotton dustbag in the following manner:

  • Hold the dustbag over a waste bin.
  • Remove the clip binder by sliding it sidewards (fig. 24).
  • Shake the contents out (fig. 25).
  • Close the dustbag by sliding the clip binder back over the bottom ridge of the dustbag (fig. 26).

When using the cotton dustbag we advise you to wash the motor filter once a year in lukewarm water. Ensure the filter is completely dry before replacing it in the vacuum cleaner.

The motor protection filter

Your appliance has been equipped with a greatly improved, triple permanent motor protection filter. This filter ensures optimal protection of the motor. This filter does not need to be replaced.

This means that you can simply throw away the replacement filter that is supplied with the dustbags, since this filter is only required for older versions of this vacuum cleaner.

All you have to do is shake out the permanent filter and reinsert it into the vacuum cleaner every time you put in a new dustbag (fig. 27-29).

  • Position the filter in the holder as it was previously placed and press it firmly.
  • Push the holder with the clean filter into its place so that the filter fits correctly at the bottom.

Replacing the AFS-Micro filter (not in all models)

The AFS-Micro filter will filter through its electrostatically charged fibres a large part of the smallest particles of the exhaust air.

Change the AFS-Micro filter when you place the first of a new set of dustbags.

  • Position the lower edge and sides of the new filter properly behind the ridges of the holder (fig. 30).
  • When closing the holder, ensure that the filter fits in completely (fig. 31).

S-Class filter (not in all models)

Instead of the AFS-Micro filter, some vacuum cleaners are equipped with a revolutionary S-Class filter. The S-Class filter is capable of removing from the outlet air at least 99.97% of all the particles measuring 0.0003 mm and more. This includes not only normal domestic dust, but also

harmful microscopic vermin such as glycyphagii and their excrements.

These are known as causes of bronchial allergies.

  • To guarantee optimum air filtering, the S-Class filter needs replacement at least once a year.
  • For replacement, single S-Class filters are available from your dealer under type n°. HR 6992 or service n°. 4822 480 10084.

Replacing the S-Class filter

  • Open the filter holder (fig. 32).
  • Remove the old filter (fig. 33).
  • Place the S-Class filter in the filter holder (fig. 34).
  • Put the S-Class filter holder in the appliance with the lever pointing upwards (fig. 35-36).
  • Close the filter holder and push the lever down (fig. 37).

Philips "Turbomax" motor

Your vacuum cleaner is equipped with the very powerful Philips "Turbomax" motor. As long as the dustbag is more or less empty, medium suction power will be quite enough for general use. This saves energy and makes vacuuming easy. As the dustbag becomes more and more full, you can select higher suction power. This ensures that the dustbag will be filled entirely.
