JUNIOR LABYRINTH
Ravensburger® Game no. 21 282 8
The mysterious maze game for 2–4 fans of Fireman Sam aged 4 years and up.
Author: Max J. Kobbert Design: Rettig Design
Contents:
1 game board
17 square maze cards
12 round tokens
4 figures

natural_image
Black-and-white photo of a firefighter in uniform holding an extinguisher (no text or symbols visible)Fireman Sam, his brave fellow firefighters, and the most important rescue vehicles are all waiting to be found in the labyrinth of Pontypandy. If you move the maze cards carefully, you can create new paths where there were walls, and find all of your favourite firefighting friends.
The aim of the game is to collect the most round tokens.
Preparation
Before playing for the first time, carefully remove the maze cards and round tokens from the perforated cards. Put the game board in the middle of the table so you can all reach it easily. Shuffle the maze cards face down, then spread them out face up on the free squares on the game board. This creates a random maze.
Four of the maze cards are printed on both sides. There are junctions with four paths on the back that make the game easier. On the front are bends. Before you start playing, decide if you want to include junctions in the game, and if so how many. The more junctions you use, the simpler the game is.
Information for parents:
We recommend using all four junctions in the first round. With a little more practice, the junctions can gradually be removed (turned over).

One maze card is always left over. Place it next to the game board for now. You will need it later to move the maze. Shuffle the round tokens face down, and place them next to the board, ready to play.
One of the chips is flipped over, showing either the character or the rescue vehicle that needs to be found first.
Now pick out one of the figures and put it on the same-coloured start space in a corner of the game board.

The youngest player goes first. Continue playing in turn, moving in a clockwise direction. On your turn, try to move your figure to the character or rescue vehicle in the labyrinth showing on the turned-over token. To do so, first move the maze and then your figure.
How to move the maze
Insert the surplus maze card into one side of the game board. There are red and white striped arrows marking the points where you can insert the maze card into the maze. Push the maze card in until another one is pushed out of the maze on the opposite side.
This one stays on the edge of the game board until another player pushes it back in again from somewhere else.

natural_image

Moving a figure does not count as your turn!

natural_image
Top-down view of a maze-like puzzle with geometric patterns and circular motifs (no text or symbols)You must move the maze before you can move your figure. Even if you can get to the right character or rescue vehicle you are looking for without moving the maze. In this case, move only those maze cards, of course, that do not hinder your path.
How to move your figure
Once you have moved the maze, you can move your figure. You can occupy any square that you can move your figure to directly, without interruption (a path card may have more than one figure on it).
Once you have got to the right character or rescue vehicle, you can take the token and place it in front of you. This is the end of your turn, and the next player starts by turning over another round token.
If you are unable to get to the right character or rescue vehicle, you can move your figure into a position that gives you a good starting point for your next turn, or not move it at all in this round. Now it is the next player's turn. This player now tries to move their figure to the right character or the right rescue vehicle. Continue like this until one of you gets to the right character or rescue vehicle. This player wins the round token. Now the next player turns over a new round token.
The game ends as soon as, one of the players reaches the last character or the last rescue vehicle. This player takes the corresponding token and places it in front of them.
The winner is the player with the most round tokens.
Version for experienced players
Set up the game as described at the beginning of the instructions. Turn over all the junctions with four paths, since you do not need the junctions but rather the bends in this version. Shuffle the round tokens face down and share them out equally among the players. Put your tokens face down in a stack in front of you.
When it's your turn, take the top token and look at it without sharing it with anyone else. Only you know which character or rescue vehicle you have to move your figure to.
As explained above, move the maze first and then your figure. When you push in the maze card, you are not allowed to push it in at the place from where it was pushed out. In other words, you are not allowed to undo the previous player's move. Once you have got to the right character or the right rescue vehicle, place the round token face up beside you. Your turn is now over. If you are unable to get to the right character or the right rescue vehicle, move your figure as far as you want to or leave it where it is. Your turn is over, and you can try again in the next round. The next player also looks at their top round token and tries to reach the corresponding character or rescue vehicle.
The game is over as soon as a player gets to the right character or the right rescue vehicle on the last of their tokens and has returned their figure to the start square. The first person to do this is the winner!
