Original Miele care product for stainless steel

- Each time the Original Miele Care product for stainless steel is used, it forms a protective film against dirt and water. It gently removes water streaks, fingerprints and other stains, leaving an even, luminous surface.

Original Miele all purpose microfibre cloth

The Original Miele all purpose microfibre cloth removes fingerprints and light soiling from stainless steel and other surfaces.

Optional accessories can be purchased from Miele (see back cover for contact details) or via the internet.

Disposal of the packing material

The transport and protective packing has been selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal and can normally be recycled.

Ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags, etc. are disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of babies and young children. Danger of suffocation.

Rather than just throwing these materials away, please ensure they are offered for recycling.

Disposing of your old appliance

Electrical and electronic appliances often contain materials which, if handled or disposed of incorrectly, could be potentially hazardous to human health and to the environment. They are, however, essential for the correct functioning of your appliance. Please do not therefore dispose of it with your household waste.

Please dispose of it at your local community waste collection / recycling centre and ensure that it presents no danger to children while being stored for disposal.

The plug must be rendered useless and the cable cut off directly behind the appliance to prevent misuse. Take care not to damage the pipework at the back of it before or during transportation to an authorised collection depot. In this way, refrigerant in the pipework and oil in the compressor will be contained, and will not leak out into the environment.

This appliance complies with all relevant local and national safety requirements. Improper use of the appliance can, however, present a risk of both personal injury and material damage.

To avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the appliance, please read these instructions carefully before installation and before using it for the first time. They contain important notes on the installation, safety, operation and care of the appliance.

Risk of injury!

In locations above 1500 m, the glass door may shatter due to changes in the air pressure.

Sharp shards of glass can cause serious injuries.

Correct application

This appliance is designed for domestic use and for use in similar environments by guests in hotel or motel rooms, bed & breakfasts and other typical living quarters. This does not include common/shared facilities or commercial facilities within hotels, motels or bed & breakfasts.

This appliance is not suitable for outdoor use.

This appliance is intended for the cool storage of wine.

Any other usage is not supported by the manufacturer and could be dangerous.

This appliance is not suitable for storing and refrigerating medications, blood plasma, laboratory preparations or similar substances or products. Incorrect use of the appliance may result in damage to or spoiling of the wine being stored. Furthermore, the appliance must not be operated in areas where explosions may occur.

Miele cannot be held liable for damage resulting from improper or incorrect use of the appliance.

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning its use by a person responsible for their safety, and are able to recognise the dangers of misuse.

Safety with children

Young children must not be allowed to use this appliance.

Older children may only use the appliance when its operation has been clearly explained to them and they are able to use it safely, recognising the dangers of misuse.

Cleaning work may only be carried out by older children under the supervision of an adult.

Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Keep small children away from the appliance at all times to avoid the risk of injury.

Danger of suffocation! Children may be able to wrap themselves in packing material or pull it over their heads with the risk of suffocation. Keep children away from any packing material.

Technical safety

The refrigerant circuit has been checked for leaks. This appliance complies with all current local and national safety requirements.

This appliance contains the coolant Isobutane (R600a), a natural gas which is environmentally friendly. Although it is flammable, it does not damage the ozone layer and does not increase the greenhouse effect.

The use of this coolant has, however, led to a slight increase in the noise level of the appliance. In addition to the noise of the compressor, you might be able to hear the coolant flowing around the system. This is unavoidable, and does not have any adverse effect on the performance of the appliance.

Care must be taken during the transportation and setting up of the appliance that no parts of the cooling system are damaged. Leaking refrigerant can damage the eyes.

In the event of any damage:

• avoid any flames or anything which creates a spark,
• Switch off at the mains and unplug the appliance,
• ventilate the room where the appliance is located for several minutes, and
• contact Miele for advice.

The more coolant there is in an appliance, the larger the room it should be installed in. In the event of a leakage, if the appliance is in a small room, there is the danger of combustible gases building up. For every 8 g of coolant at least 1 m³ of room space is required. The amount of coolant in the appliance is stated on the data plate inside the appliance.

Before connecting the appliance to the mains supply, make sure that the rating on the data plate corresponds to the voltage and frequency of the household supply. This data must correspond in order to avoid risk of damage to the appliance. Consult a qualified electrician if in any doubt.

The electrical safety of this appliance can only be guaranteed when continuity is complete between it and an effective earthing system which complies with local and national safety regulations. It is most important that this basic safety requirement is present and tested regularly and, where there is any doubt, the household wiring system should be inspected by a qualified electrician.

If the connection cable is faulty, it must only be replaced by a Miele approved service technician to protect the user from danger.

Do not connect the appliance to the mains electricity supply by a multi-socket unit or an extension lead. These do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance (e.g. danger of overheating).

If moisture gets into electrical components, it could cause a short circuit.

Therefore, do not operate this appliance in areas which are exposed to moisture.

This appliance must not be installed and operated in mobile installations (e.g. on a ship). A damaged appliance is dangerous. Check your appliance for any visible damage. Never install or attempt to use a damaged appliance. During installation, maintenance and repair work, the appliance must be disconnected from the mains electricity supply. It is only completely isolated from the electricity supply when: – the mains fuse has been disconnected, or - the screw-out fuse is removed (in countries where this is applicable), or - it is switched off at the wall socket and the plug is withdrawn from the socket, or it is switched off at the isolator. ▶ Repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous. Installation work and repairs to electrical appliances must only be carried out by a Miele approved service technician. The manufacturer's warranty will be invalidated if the appliance is not repaired by a Miele approved service technician. ▶ Faulty components must only be replaced by genuine Miele Original spare parts. The manufacturer can only guarantee the safety of the appliance when Miele replacement parts are used.

Correct use

The appliance is designed for use within certain climate ranges (ambient temperatures), and should not be used outside this range. The climate range of the appliance is stated on the data plate inside the appliance. Installing the appliance in a room with too low an ambient temperature, e.g. a garage, can lead to the appliance switching off for longer periods so that it cannot maintain the required temperature. To ensure proper air flow in and out of the appliance, the air vents in the appliance or in the built-in structure must not be covered or blocked in any way.

It would also increase the electricity consumption and could cause damage to the appliance.

Make sure that any oil, or foods containing oil, do not come into contact with plastic components as this could cause stress cracks.

Do not store explosive materials in the appliance or any products containing propellants (e.g. spray cans). Flammable gases can ignite if they come into contact with electrical components. Danger of fire and explosion!

Do not operate any electrical equipment (e.g. an electric ice-cream maker) inside the appliance. Danger of sparking and explosion!

If storing alcohol with a high percentage proof, make sure it is tightly closed and stored upright. Danger of explosion!

Use only Miele Original spare parts. If spare parts or accessories from other manufacturers are used, the warranty will be invalidated, and Miele cannot accept liability.

Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process, other than those recommended by the manufacturer.

Do not damage the refrigerant circuit.

Cleaning and care

Do not use any oils or grease on the door seal, as these will cause the seal to deteriorate and become porous with time. Do not use a steam-cleaning appliance to clean this appliance. Pressurised steam could reach the electrical components and cause a short circuit. Do not use sharp edged objects to

- remove frost and ice,

- separate frozen foods and remove ice trays.

They will damage the evaporator, causing irreversible damage to the appliance.

Never place electric heaters or candles in the appliance to defrost it. These can damage the plastic parts. Do not use defrosting sprays or de-icers, as they might contain substances which could damage the plastic parts or which could cause a build-up of gases and pose a danger to health.

Disposal of your old appliance

Before disposing of an old appliance, first make the door lock unusable.

This way you will prevent children from accidentally locking themselves in and endangering their lives.

▶ Be careful not to damage any part of the pipework whilst awaiting disposal, e.g. by

- puncturing the refrigerant channels in the condenser,

- bending any pipework, or

- scratching the surface coating.

Splashes of refrigerant can harm the eyes.

Before using for the first time

Protective foil

The stainless steel surfaces have a layer of protective foil to prevent scratching during transportation.

■ Remove the protective foil only after the appliance has been installed in its intended location. Start by peeling back the protective foil from one of the top corners.

Cleaning and care

■ Immediately after removing the protective foil, apply the Original Miele Care product for stainless steel.

Important! Each time the Original Miele Care product for stainless steel is used, it forms a protective film against dirt and water.

Clean the inside of the appliance and the accessories with lukewarm water, and then dry with a soft cloth.

Operation

A light touch of the finger on the sensors is all that is required to operate this appliance.

A keypad tone will sound each time a sensor is touched. The keypad tone can be switched off (see "Selecting further settings - Audible tones").

Switching the appliance on

As soon as the appliance is connected to the electricity supply, the mains connection symbol appears in the display.

Touch the On/Off button.

The mains connection symbol goes out when the appliance starts cooling.

The sensors in the control panel for the 3 temperature zones appear: the upper, middle and lower wine conditioning zones. The selected wine conditioning zone is highlighted in yellow and the temperature for this zone appears in the display.

As soon as the selected temperature is reached for this zone, the respective sensor lights up constantly. The alarm symbol goes out once the selected temperatures in all zones have been reached.

The interior lighting comes on when the door is open.

Individual settings can be selected for each wine conditioning zone.

Touch the sensor for the particular zone of the appliance where you would like to select the settings.

The selected sensor is highlighted in yellow. You can now

- set the temperature,

- Switch on the DynaCool function.

Please refer to the relevant section for more information.

If you select another wine conditioning zone, the settings for the previously selected zone will remain intact.

Switching off

Touch the On/Off button.

If the appliance does not switch off, the system lock is activated!

The sensor lights in the control panel for the 3 temperature zones will go out. The temperature display will go out and the mains connection symbol -α will appear.

The interior lighting goes out and refrigeration is switched off.

Switching off for longer periods of time

If you do not want to use the appliance for an extended period of time,

Switch the appliance off,

Switch off at the wall and withdraw the plug from the socket, or disconnect the mains fuse or remove the screw-out fuse in countries where this is applicable,

Clean the appliance,

Leave the door ajar to air the appliance.

If, during a long absence, the appliance is switched off but not cleaned out and the door is left shut, there is a danger of mould and odours building up inside the appliance.

Selecting further settings

Certain settings on the appliance can only be selected in the settings mode.

The door alarm is automatically disabled when the appliance is in settings mode.

System lock 🔒

With the system lock you can secure the appliance against:

• unwanted switching off,
• unwanted change of temperature,
• unwanted selection of DynaCool,
• unwanted switching on of the interior lighting.

Switching the system lock on and off

■ Touch the settings sensor.

All selectable symbols will appear in the display and the 🔒 symbol will flash.

■ Touch the OK sensor to confirm your selection.

The last selected setting flashes in the display and the 🔒 symbol lights up.

■ By touching the ∨ or ∧ sensor, you can now select whether the system lock is switched on or off:

0: The system lock is switched off 1: The system lock is switched on

Touch the OK sensor to confirm your selection.

The selected setting is adopted and the 🔒 symbol will flash.

Press the settings sensor to leave the settings mode. If no sensor is touched, the appliance will automatically leave the settings mode after approx. 1 minute.

If the system lock is activated, the 🔒 symbol will be illuminated in the display.

Audible tones ♪♪

The appliance has audible tones such as the sensor tone and the door and temperature alarms.

The sensor tone and door alarm can be switched on or off. However, the temperature alarm cannot be switched off.

You can choose from 4 possible settings. Setting 3 is the factory default, which means the sensor tone and door alarm are switched on.

Switching audible tones on/off

Touch the settings sensor.

All selectable symbols will appear in the display and the 🔒 symbol will flash.

Touch the sensors for setting the temperature (V or ∧) repeatedly until the ⌘ symbol flashes in the display.

Touch the OK sensor to confirm your selection.

The last selected setting flashes in the display and the ⌘ symbol lights up.

By touching the ∨ or ∧ sensor, you can now select:

0: Sensor tone off; door alarm off 1: Sensor tone off; door alarm on (after 4 minutes)

2: Sensor tone off; door alarm on (after 2 minutes)

3: Sensor tone on; door alarm on (after 2 minutes)

Touch the OK sensor to confirm your selection.

The selected setting is adopted and the musical symbol will flash.

Press the settings sensor to leave the settings mode. If no sensor is touched, the appliance will automatically leave the settings mode after approx. 1 minute.

Display brightness

The display brightness can be adjusted to suit the lighting conditions of the room.

The display brightness can be set from levels 1 to 3. The default setting is 3 (maximum brightness).

Touch the sensors for setting the temperature (V or ∧) repeatedly until the ⚙ symbol flashes in the display.

Wine keeps on maturing depending on the surrounding conditions. The length of time for which wine can be kept in good condition will therefore depend not only on the temperature but also on the air quality.

The wine conditioning unit, with its constant ideal temperature, increased air humidity and odour-free atmosphere, offers the perfect conditions for storing your wine.

The wine conditioning unit also provides an environment free of vibrations so that the maturing process of the wine is not disturbed.

Temperature

Wine can be stored at a temperature between 6 °C and 18 °C. If you wish to store red and white wines together, select a temperature between 12 and 14 °C. Both red and white wines are palatable at this temperature.

A storage temperature of over 22 °C causes wine to mature too quickly, which results in the aromas not developing fully. In contrast, a storage temperature of lower than 5 °C prevents wine from maturing properly.

Heat causes wine to expand and cold causes it to shrink. Temperature fluctuations are stressful for wine and result in the maturing process being interrupted. It is therefore important to ensure that temperature fluctuations are kept to a minimum.

Tip: Store wines approx. 1 to 2 °C cooler than the relevant recommended temperature stated as wine becomes warmer when poured into a glass.

Heavy red wines should be opened 2 to 3 hours before drinking so that they can soak up oxygen and release aromas first.

Safety measures in the case of low ambient temperatures

To protect wine from low temperatures, a safety thermostat ensures that the temperature in the appliance cannot fall dramatically. If the ambient temperature drops, a heater in the appliance switches on and holds the temperature within the appliance constant. If the ambient temperature continues to drop, the appliance will automatically switch itself off.

Isolator plates for thermal separation

The appliance has two fixed isolator plates which divide the cabinet into three different temperature zones. This means that up to 3 different types of wine can be stored in the conditioning unit at the same time, e.g. red wine, white wine and champagne. The insulation strips on the inside of the glass door prevent a temperature exchange between the individual zones.

Setting the temperature

You can set a different temperature for each of the 3 wine conditioning zones.

■ Touch the sensor for the zone in which you wish to change the temperature. It will be highlighted in yellow.

The currently selected temperature for the zone will appear in the display.

■ Set the temperature using the 2 sensors underneath the display.

By touching the respective sensor:

- The temperature will decrease

- The temperature will increase

Touch the OK sensor to confirm your selection,

or

wait approximately 5 seconds after the last sensor was touched.

While the temperature is being set, the temperature value will flash in the display.

The following information appears in the display when the sensors are touched:

• Touching a sensor once: the previously selected temperature will flash in the display.
• Each subsequent touch of a sensor: the temperature is adjusted in 1 °C steps.
• Leaving a finger on the sensor: changes the temperature continuously. When the highest or lowest temperature in the range is reached, a tone sounds (if the keypad tone is switched on).

Approximately 5 seconds after taking your finger off a sensor, the current temperature inside the wine conditioning unit appears.

If you have adjusted the temperature, it takes some time before the appliance reaches the set temperature.

The temperature display always shows the current temperature.

Temperature range

The temperature range for all wine conditioning zones is between 5 and 20°C.

Temperature display

In normal operation the temperature display shows the actual temperature in each temperature zone.

If the temperature in a particular zone lies outside of the possible temperature range for the appliance, only bars will flash in the display.

Depending on the ambient temperature and the temperature setting, it may take up to a few hours before the selected temperature is reached and constantly displayed.

Air quality and humidity

A conventional refrigerator, with its low humidity level, is not the best place to store wine. It is very important to store wine in an atmosphere with a high humidity level so that the corks remain moist on the outside. Low humidity causes corks to dry out from the outside, and therefore they do not seal the bottles as tightly. Wine should be stored lying down to keep the corks moist from the inside too. Any air entering the bottle will inevitably spoil the wine.

Do not attempt to add moisture to the appliance by placing a bowl of water in it, for example.

This will cause the humidity level to increase and condensation will form in the appliance interior.

Condensation can, in turn, cause damage to the appliance, e.g. corrosion.

DynaCool (constant humidity)

The DynaCool function increases the relative humidity in the entire appliance.

Humidity and temperatures in the different zones are evenly distributed so that all your wines are stored under the same, ideal conditions.

This enables a climate to be created inside the appliance that corresponds to that of a wine cellar.

Switching on DynaCool

If you wish to use your wine conditioning unit for the long-term storage of wine, it is recommended to leave the DynaCool function switched on.

Touch the DynaCool sensor so that it is highlighted in yellow.

Even if you have not switched on DynaCool, the appliance automatically switches on the fans when the cooling switches on. This ensures that the optimum climate for your wine is maintained.

The fans switch off automatically whilst the door is open.

Switching off DynaCool

Because DynaCool increases energy consumption and causes the appliance to be louder, you may want to switch it off from time to time.

Touch the DynaCool sensor so that it is no longer highlighted in yellow.

Air filtering with active charcoal filters

The active charcoal filters provide a high quality of air by effectively filtering the air entering and leaving the appliance.

Fresh air enters the appliance after first being filtered by the active charcoal filters.

The air is then evenly distributed throughout the appliance interior by the fans (DynaCool function).

The filtering process via the active charcoal filters ensures that only fresh, dust-free and odourless air can enter the appliance.

This helps to prevent the transfer of possible odours to the wines which can happen via the corks.

The active charcoal filters need to be replaced when the prompt ⚙ appears in the display (see "Active charcoal filters").

Your appliance is fitted with a warning system which ensures that the temperature in the three zones cannot rise or fall unnoticed and impair the wine.

Temperature alarm

If the temperature in one of the zones gets too warm or too cold, the sensor for the zone concerned will flash in the control panel. The alarm symbol ⚠️ will flash in the display at the same time and an audible alarm will also sound.

The alarm will sound and the alarm symbol will flash, for example, if:

• you switch on the appliance and the temperature in one of the zones deviates too greatly from the set temperature,
• the door has been left open for a while in order to rearrange or take wine bottles out and warm air has entered the appliance,
• a large number of wine bottles are put into the storage unit at once, – there has been a power cut.

The alarm will stop and the alarm symbol ⚠ in the display will go out again as soon as the temperature has reached the correct level again. The sensor for the zone concerned will light up again constantly.

Switching off the alarm early

If the noise disturbs you, you can switch the alarm off early if you wish.

■ Touch the sensor to switch off the temperature alarm.

The alarm will stop.

The sensor for the corresponding zone and the alarm symbol ⚠️ will continue to flash until the temperature has reached the correct level again.

Safety measures in the case of low ambient temperatures

To protect wine from low temperatures, a safety thermostat ensures that the temperature in the appliance cannot fall dramatically. If the ambient temperature drops, a heater in the appliance switches on and holds the temperature within the appliance constant. If the ambient temperature continues to drop, the appliance will automatically switch itself off.

Door alarm

The alarm will sound if the door is left open for more than 2 minutes. The sensor lights in the control panel for the 3 temperature zones will flash. The alarm symbol ⚠️ will light up constantly in the display.

The alarm will stop when the appliance door is closed. The 3 sensors for the wine conditioning zones and the alarm symbol ⚠️ will go out.

Switching the door alarm off early

If the noise disturbs you, you can switch the alarm off early if you wish.

■ Touch the sensor to switch off the door alarm.

The alarm will stop.

The 3 sensors for the wine conditioning zones and the alarm symbol ⚠️ remain illuminated until the appliance door is closed.

If the alarm doesn't sound although the door has been left open for a long time, it has been switched off in the settings mode (see "Selecting further settings - Audible tones").

If you wish to display your bottles of wine, you can set the interior lighting so that it remains on when the door is closed.

Each wine conditioning zone is equipped with a panel of lights so that all 3 zones can be illuminated.

LEDs are used to rule out the risk of damage to wine due to the creation of heat or the presence of UV light.

Switching the display lighting on and off

■ Touch the On/Off sensor for the display lighting so that it is highlighted in yellow.

The interior lighting is now switched on in all 3 zones, even when the door is closed.

To switch off the display lighting:

■ Touch the On/Off sensor for the display lighting so that it is highlighted in yellow.

The display lighting is now switched off when the door is closed.

Setting the duration of the display lighting

The lighting duration for the display lighting is set at 30 minutes at the factory.

You can set a lighting duration of 30, 60, 90 minutes to 00 (permanently on).

■ Open the appliance door.

■ Touch and hold the display lighting sensor for approx. 2 seconds until h flashes in the display. ■ Set the lighting duration by using the sensors for setting the temperature (V and ∧).

The times (in minutes) will flash in the display.

By touching the respective sensor:

- The lighting duration decreases by 30 minutes.

- The lighting duration increases by 30 minutes.

■ Touch the OK sensor to confirm the selected setting.

The lighting duration is now saved for all 3 wine conditioning zones. The temperature will then appear again in the display.

Each time the appliance door is opened, the selected lighting duration starts again.

Adjusting the brightness of the display lighting

You have the option of adjusting the display lighting to your needs.

■ Touch and hold the display lighting sensor for approx. 4 seconds until 1 flashes in the display (h flashes after 2 seconds).

■ Set the lighting duration by using the sensors for setting the temperature (V and ∧).

The adjustment occurs directly and continuously.

By touching the respective sensor:

- The lighting becomes darker.

- The lighting becomes brighter.

■ Touch the OK sensor to confirm the selected setting.

The lighting brightness is now saved for all 3 wine conditioning zones. The temperature will then appear again in the display.

As soon as the appliance door is closed, the display lighting will come on at the selected setting. When the appliance door is opened again, the normal lighting comes on.

The light covers must not be removed. Should the covers be damaged or removed due to damage, exercise caution. Never look at the lighting with optical instruments (magnifying glass or similar).

If the lights are damaged, please contact Miele to arrange for them to be repaired.

Storing wine bottles

Vibrations and being moved have a negative effect on the maturing process of wine, and thus can be detrimental to the taste of the wine.

As far as possible, store bottles of the same type of wine beside each other on the same shelf. Removing a bottle of one type will then leave the other types undisturbed and will avoid the need to move different bottles around.

Furthermore, avoid stacking wine bottles on top of each other on the wooden shelves.

Wine bottles should ideally be stored on their side so that the corks remain moist on the inside and air cannot penetrate the bottles.

Wooden shelves

The wooden shelves on runners can be pulled out quite far so that bottles can be easily placed on the shelves or removed.

In the middle and lower wine conditioning zones there are 2 wooden shelves (2nd and 3rd shelves from the top) which can be completely pulled out. These make for convenient loading and unloading. The remaining wooden shelves can be partially pulled out.

Please note that the shelves which can be partially pulled out are shorter than those that can be completely pulled out. Therefore, do not exchange the position of the shorter shelves with that of the longer shelves.

Moving the wooden shelves

The wooden shelves can be removed if required.

Pull out the wooden shelf on its rails until it stops, then lift it up and out. Hold the frame of the shelf when doing this.

If you need more room (e.g. to set up the bottle presenter):

Cover the exposed shelf runners on either side with the covers supplied. The thicker side of the cover faces towards the front of the appliance. The covers are held in place with magnets.

To replace the shelf, click it into place on the extended rails. The magnetic strip should face forwards.

Adjusting the wooden shelves

The space between the individual slats on the shelves can be adjusted according to the size of the wine bottles being stored. This enables each bottle to be positioned securely.

Move or remove individual slats by simply lifting them up and out of the shelf. In this way the wooden shelves can be tailored to different sizes of wine bottles.

Labelling the shelves

To give yourself an overview of the wines you are storing, you can write on the magnetic strip on the front of the wooden shelves.

This strip is coated with blackboard paint and can be written on with the chalk supplied. To make it easier to write on the magnetic strip, first remove it from the wooden shelf:

Grip the magnetic strip on each end and pull it towards you. The magnetic strips are held in place by magnets on the shelves. Record the wines you are storing by writing on the magnetic strips with the chalk supplied and reaffixing them to the wooden shelves. Any unwanted writing can be easily removed from the magnetic strip with a damp cloth.

Only use clean water to clean the magnetic strips. Do not use cleaning agents as these will damage the blackboard paint.

Bottle presenter

The bottle presenter enables you to display selected wines so that the label can be seen even when the door is closed.

The above-lying wooden shelf must be removed before the bottle presenter can be set up.

Remove the shelf and place the covers provided over the shelf runners. Place the bottle presenter at the very front of the wooden shelf and place the wine bottle on it. To highlight the selected wine bottle, you can switch on the display lighting (see "Display lighting").

Maximum capacity

A total of 178 bottles (0.75 l; Bordeaux bottles) can be stored in the appliance, with 46 in the upper zone, 46 in the middle zone and 86 in the lower zone.

A total of 178 bottles can only be achieved by using all of the wooden shelves.

The maximum load of each wooden shelf is 35 kg.

Please note that stacking wine bottles on top of one another on the wooden shelves should be avoided.

Automatic defrost

Condensate and frost can build up on the back wall of the refrigerator section while the compressor is running. You do not need to remove this, as it will defrost and evaporate automatically.

The defrosted water flows into an evaporation system via a condensate channel and drain pipe.

Do not let water get into the electronic unit or the appliance lighting.

Do not use a steam cleaning apparatus to clean the appliance. The steam could reach the electrical components and cause a short circuit.

The data plate located inside the appliance must not be removed. It contains information which is required in the event of a service call.

To avoid damaging the outer surfaces of your appliance, do not use:

• Cleaning agents containing soda, ammonia, acids or chlorides
• Cleaning agents containing descaling agents
• Abrasive cleaning agents, e.g. powder cleaners and cream cleaners
• Solvent-based cleaning agents
• Stainless steel cleaners
• Dishwasher cleaner
• Oven sprays
• Glass cleaners (except when used on the glass in the appliance door)
• Hard, abrasive sponges and brushes, e.g. pot scourers
• Dirt erasers
• Sharp metal scrapers

Before cleaning

Switch off the appliance. Disconnect it from the mains: switch off at the wall and withdraw the plug from the socket, or disconnect the mains fuse. Take any wine bottles out of the appliance and store them in a cool place. Remove the magnetic strips before cleaning the wooden shelves (see "Labelling the shelves"). Take out any removable parts, e.g., shelves, for cleaning.

Interior, accessories, external walls, appliance door

Clean the appliance at least once a month.

Clean any soiling immediately. Do not allow it to dry first.

Clean the interior using lukewarm water and a little washing-up liquid applied with a soft sponge. Clean all wooden parts with a slightly damp cloth, making sure the wood does not get wet. After cleaning, wipe interior and accessories with a damp cloth and dry with a soft cloth. Leave the door open to air the appliance for a short while.

Only use clean water to clean the magnetic strips on the front of the shelves. Do not use cleaning agents as these will damage the blackboard paint. The Original Miele Care product for stainless steel can be used internally and externally on stainless steel surfaces of the appliance (available from Miele or at www.miele-shop.com, depending on country).

This product contains substances that are gentle to stainless steel surfaces and, unlike stainless steel cleaners, it does not contain polishing agents. Soiling is gently removed and each time the Original Miele Care product for stainless steel is used, it forms a protective film against dirt and water.

Apply the Original Miele Care product for stainless steel to the external side panels each time after cleaning.

Each time this product is used it forms a protective film against dirt and water. The stainless steel surface will be protected against resoiling for a period of time.

Clean the appliance door with a proprietary glass cleaner.

Ventilation gaps

The ventilation gaps should be cleaned on a regular basis with a brush or vacuum cleaner. A build-up of dust will increase the energy consumption of the appliance.

Door seal

Do not use any oils or grease on the door seals as these will cause the seal to deteriorate and become porous over time.

The door seal should be cleaned regularly with clean water, and then wiped dry with a soft cloth.

Rear of appliance - metal grille

The metal grille at the back of the appliance (heat exchanger) should be dusted at least once a year. A build-up of dust will increase the energy consumption of the appliance.

When cleaning the grille, make sure that the pipework and other components do not get broken or damaged in any way.

After cleaning

■ Replace all shelves and accessories back in the appliance. ■ Reconnect the appliance to the electricity supply and switch it on. ■ Place the wine bottles back in the appliance and close the door.

Fresh air from the room enters the appliance through the active charcoal filters, ensuring a fresh, dust-free, odourless air supply.

The reminder to change the active charcoal filters appears approx. every 12 months.

When the indicator light for changing the active charcoal filters 🌐 appears in the display, the filters must be changed in all 3 wine conditioning zones.

Changing the active charcoal filters

■ Turn the filter 90° either clockwise or anti-clockwise. ■ Pull out the filter. ■ Fit the new filter with the grip in the vertical position. ■ Then turn the filter 90° either clockwise or anti-clockwise until it clicks into place.

The active charcoal filters can be purchased from Miele (see back cover for contact details).

To confirm the filters have been changed:

■ Touch the settings sensor.

All selectable symbols will appear in the display and the 🔒 symbol will flash.

■ Touch the sensors for setting the temperature (V or ∧) repeatedly until the ⚙ symbol flashes in the display.

Touch the OK sensor to confirm your selection.

7 flashes in the display (active charcoal filters are fitted) and the ⚙ symbol lights up.

Touch the sensors for setting the temperature (V or ∧) repeatedly until 2 (time counter is reset) appears in the display.

Touch the OK sensor to confirm your selection.

The selected setting is adopted and the symbol will flash.

Press the settings sensor to leave the settings mode.

If no sensor is touched, the appliance will automatically leave the settings mode after approx. 1 minute.

The indicator light ⚙ for changing the charcoal filters will go out.

With the aid of the following guide, minor problems can be easily corrected without contacting Miele.

If, after reading this guide, you cannot remedy the problem yourself, please call Miele (see back cover for details). However, please note that a call-out charge will be applied to unnecessary service visits where the problem could have been rectified as described in these operating instructions.

To prevent unnecessary loss of temperature, it is advisable not to open the door while waiting for the appliance to be serviced.

Installation, maintenance and repairs may only be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with current national and local safety regulations.

Repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for unauthorised work.

The appliance does not get cool.
Problem Possible cause	Remedy

Problem solving guide

The compressor is switching on too frequently and for too long, which is causing the temperature in the appliance to decrease.

Indicator lights in the display

The indicator light for changing the charcoal filters lights up.	This is the prompt to change the active charcoal filters.	■ Replace the active charcoal filter in each of the 3 wine conditioning zones and then confirm the filter change in the settings mode (see "Active charcoal filter").
A bar lights up or flashes in the temperature display.	Only temperatures within the range the appliance can display will be shown.
"F7" to "F3" or "51" to "59" will appear.	There is a fault.	■ Call Miele.

Interior lighting

The slats on the wooden shelves have distorted.	A change in volume due to the absorption or loss of moisture is a typical characteristic of wood. An increase in humidity in the appliance causes wooden components to swell. This can cause wooden components to distort, thus resulting in cracking.Knotholes and grains in wood are part of the characteristics of a piece of wood.
Mildew has begun to form on the wine bottle labels.	Mildew can begin to form on the labels, depending on the type of adhesive used.	■ Remove all of the mildew. Wash the wine bottles and remove any adhesive residue.
Normal noises What causes them
Brrrrr ...	A humming noise is made by the motor (compressor). This noise can get louder for brief periods when the motor switches on.
Blubb, blubb ...	A gurgling noise can be heard when coolant is circulating through the pipes.
Click ...	Clicking sounds are made when the thermostat switches the motor on and off.
Sssrrrrr ...	On multi-zone and frost-free appliances you can sometimes just hear the movement of the fan inside the appliance.
	On appliances with a water tank a buzzing sound can be heard when water is being pumped out of the water tank.
Crack ...	A cracking sound can be heard when materials expand inside the appliance.
Remember that the noise of the compressor and the coolant circulating in the system is unavoidable.
Noises that you can easily rectify	Possible cause Remedy
Rattling, vibrating	The appliance is uneven.	Realign the appliance using a spirit level, by raising or lowering the screw feet underneath the appliance.
	The appliance is touching another appliance or piece of furniture.	Move it away.
	Drawers, baskets or shelves are unstable or sticking.	Check all removable items and refit them correctly.
	Are any bottles or containers unstable or knocking against each other?	Separate them.
	The transport cable clips are hanging loose at the back of the appliance.	Remove the cable clips.

Demo mode

The appliance can be displayed in the demo mode. This means the operation of the appliance and the interior lighting will remain functional, but the appliance will not provide refrigeration because the compressor does not switch on.

Switching on the demo mode

■ Switch off the appliance by touching the On/Off sensor.

The sensor lights in the control panel for the 3 temperature zones will go out. The temperature display will go out and the mains connection symbol → will appear.

■ Place your finger on the V sensor and leave it there.

■ At the same time, briefly touch the On/Off sensor (without letting go of the V sensor).

■ Leave your finger on the V sensor until the I symbol appears in the display. ■ Then take your finger off the V symbol.

The demo mode is now switched on and the ▪ symbol is illuminated in the display.

Switching off the demo mode

The symbol is illuminated in the display.

Touch the settings sensor.

All selectable symbols will appear in the display and the lock symbol will flash.

Touch the sensors for setting the temperature (V or ∧) repeatedly until the ▪ symbol flashes in the display.

Touch the OK sensor to confirm your selection.

1 flashes in the display (demo mode is active) and the I symbol lights up.

Information for Miele Galleries and Chartered Agents

Touch the V or ∧ sensor so that 0 appears in the display (demo mode is switched off).

Touch the OK sensor to confirm your selection.

The selected setting is adopted and the symbol will flash.

Press the settings sensor to leave the settings mode. If no sensor is touched, the appliance will automatically leave the settings mode after approx. 1 minute.

The demo mode is switched off and the symbol disappears.

All electrical work should be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with current local and national safety regulations.

The appliance is supplied with a mains cable and moulded plug ready for connection to an AC single phase 220 – 240 V 50 Hz supply.

The fuse rating must be at least 10 A.

The voltage and frequency are given on the data plate. Please ensure that these match the household mains supply. Connection should be made via a suitable switched socket which is easily accessible. For extra safety it is advisable to install a suitable residual current device (RCD).

The accessibility of the plug must always be ensured in order to be able to quickly separate the appliance from the mains.

If the mains socket is not accessible after the appliance has been built in, a separator for each terminal must be available. There must be an all-pole contact gap of 3 mm in the switch.

The plug and mains connection cable must not come into contact with the back of the appliance as vibrations can cause damage to these components. This, in turn, could result in a short circuit.

Nor should other appliances be plugged into a socket located directly behind the appliance.

Do not connect the appliance to the mains electricity supply by an extension lead or a plug adapter. Extension leads do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance (e.g. danger of overheating).

Do not connect the appliance to an inverter such as those used with an autonomous energy source e.g. Solar power.

When switched on, peak loads in the system can cause the safety switch off mechanism to be triggered. This can damage the electronic unit.

The machine must not be used with so-called energy-saving devices either. These reduce the amount of energy supplied to the machine, causing it to overheat.

If the mains connection cable needs to be replaced, this must only be carried out by a qualified electrician.

WARNING

THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED

Location

This appliance should be installed in a dry, well-ventilated room. It should not be installed where it is exposed to direct sunlight or directly adjacent to a heat-producing appliance such as an oven or a radiator. The room temperature should not go above or below the climate range for which the appliance is designed. The higher the ambient temperature of the room, the longer the compressor will run and the more energy the appliance will consume.

Please note the following when installing the appliance:

• The mains connection socket must not be located directly behind the appliance and must be easily accessible.
• The plug and mains connection cable must not come into contact with the rear of the appliance as they may be damaged by vibrations from the appliance.
• Nor should other appliances be plugged into a socket located directly behind the wine conditioning unit.

Climate range

The appliance is designed for use within a certain climate range (ambient temperatures), and should not be used outside this range. The climate range of the appliance is stated on the data plate inside the appliance.

Ventilation

The wine conditioning unit can be placed with its back against the wall. However, ensure that the ventilation gaps are not covered so that the appliance operates properly.

The ventilation gaps must also be kept free of dust.

Installation

■ Remove the cable clip from the back of the appliance. ■ Check that all parts at the back of the appliance are unhindered. Carefully remove any hindrance. ■ Carefully push the appliance into position with the back against the wall.

Floor

To ensure the safe installation of the appliance and to guarantee its correct functioning, the floor in the niche where the appliance is to be installed must be smooth and even.

The floor must also be made from strong, rigid material.

The appliance is extremely heavy when fully loaded, and for this reason it is imperative that the floor it stands on is able to bear its weight. If necessary, the advice of an architect or structural engineer should be sought.

The weight of the appliance when empty is approx. 120 kg.

When fully loaded, the approximate weight of the appliance is 350 kg.

Aligning the appliance

Align the front feet using the flat spanner supplied with the appliance.

Supporting the appliance door

It is important to unscrew the foot on the lower hinge until it touches the floor. Then unscrew it another quarter of a turn.

Door angle limiting pin

The pin is used to limit the opening angle of the door to 90°. This prevents, for instance, the door being opened against an adjacent wall and damaging the door and/or the wall.

These pins are available to order from Miele.

Changing the door hinging

The appliance is supplied with right-hand door hinging. If left-hand door hinging is required, the hinging must be changed.

To change the door hinging, you will need the following tools:

Two people are needed to change the door hinging. The glass door is heavy (approx. 30 kg) and may break if not handled correctly.

To protect the appliance door and your flooring from damage while changing the door hinging,

spread out a suitable underlay in front of the appliance.

Take care not to damage the door seal. If the door seal becomes damaged, the door will no longer close properly and cooling will be impaired.

Removing the appliance door

Open the appliance door as far as it will go.

Carefully lift off the cover ① at the base of the appliance with a flat-bladed screwdriver.

Fit the retaining clip ② (supplied with the appliance) onto the SoftClose mechanism ③.

The retaining clip stops the hinge from snapping shut. Do not remove the clip until told to do so.

Push the hinge pin ④ up and out from underneath.

The SoftClose mechanism is now no longer fixed to the appliance.

Relocating the SoftClose mechanism

Push the SoftClose mechanism ③ away from the appliance. Undo the screws ⑤ from the SoftClose mechanism at the right and left-hand sides of the base of the door.

Caution! Do not move the front part of the SoftClose mechanism in the direction with a cross through it when the retaining clip ② is removed. Risk of injury!

Remove the retaining clip ② from the SoftClose mechanism.

Press the cover ⑥ together in the middle and remove it.

Fit the panel ⑦ into the cover on the opposite side.

Refit the retaining clip ② to the SoftClose mechanism.

■ Undo the screw ⑧. ■ Pull the SoftClose mechanism ③ to the right and remove it. ■ Push the spacer ⑨ to the left and remove it. ■ Turn the spacer ⑨ 180° and fit it to the opposite side of the door. Push it towards the appliance as far as it will go.

■ Turn the SoftClose mechanism ③ 180°. Fit the SoftClose mechanism on the outer part of the door first. ■ Fix the SoftClose mechanism ③ to the spacer ⑨ using the screw ⑧.

Caution! Do not move the front part of the SoftClose mechanism in the direction shown when the retaining clip ② is removed.

Risk of injury!

■ Remove the retaining clip ② from the SoftClose mechanism.

■ Refit the cover ⑥ to the SoftClose mechanism. ■ Refit the retaining clip ② to the SoftClose mechanism. - Secure the cover ⑥ with the screws ⑤.

Removing the appliance door

■ Remove the covers ⑩ at the top of the appliance door using a flat-bladed screwdriver. ■ Open the appliance door as far as it will go.

■ Undo the screw ⑪ from the hinge and screw it into the hinge pin at the top with 3-4 turns.

Caution! The next step will detach the door from the appliance. The appliance door is heavy and must be held by a second person.

■ Pull the hinge pin ⑫ out from the top of the door.

Tip: Leave the screw ⑪ in the hinge pin until it is fitted on the other side of the door.

■ Carefully lift the door off and place it to one side.

Remove both covers ⑬ from the front of the appliance.

Unscrew the hinge ⑭ at the top of the appliance, turn it 180° and screw it onto the opposite side of the appliance.

Click the covers ⑬ into place at the top of the appliance. The cover with the cut-out must be placed over the hinge.

Loosen the foot ⑮ at the base of the appliance with the spanner supplied.

Pull up the hinge pin ⑯ and unscrew it from the foot ⑮, making sure the foot is held with the spanner while doing this.

Unscrew the hinge ⑰ from the base of the appliance. Unscrew the foot ⑮ from underneath the hinge.

Fit the mounting ⑱ for the SoftClose mechanism on the other side of the hinge. Refit the cover ⑲ on the opposite side.

Remove the cover ⑳ at the base of the appliance. Undo the screw ㉑ from the base of the appliance and fit it on the other side. Refit the cover ⑳ on the opposite side.

Insert the foot ⑮ into the hinge ⑰ from below. Screw on the hinge ⑰ with the middle screw first. Then screw in the outer screws.

Changing the door hinging

Screw the hinge pin ⑯ onto the foot ⑮ from above, paying attention to the position of the groove in the hinge pin. Tighten the foot ⑮ with the spanner supplied.

Fitting the appliance door

Place the appliance door on the lower hinge pin ⑯ and then align the door with the hinge at the top.

Caution! The appliance door is heavy and must be held by a second person.

■ Insert the hinge pin ⑫ into the hinge from above.

■ Push the hinge pin ⑫ in far enough so that the groove on the pin is in line with the hole in the hinge.

■ Undo the screw ⑪ from the hinge pin and screw it into the hole in the hinge.

■ Refit the covers ⑩ to the glass door.

■ Pull the arm of the SoftClose mechanism ③ to its mount ⑱ on the hinge.

■ Insert the hinge pin ④ into the SoftClose mechanism from above. ■ Remove the retaining clip ②.

■ Refit the cover ①. ■ Position the appliance in the desired location.

■ Unscrew the foot on the lower hinge until it touches the floor. Then unscrew it another quarter of a turn.

Aligning the sides of the appliance door

If the appliance door is not parallel with the sides of the appliance, it can be adjusted via the hinge at the top of the appliance.

■ Pull the inner section of the cover ⑬ towards you and slide it away from the appliance.

Changing the door hinging

■ Lower the cover so that it is in a vertical position.

■ Loosen the 3 screws on the hinge and slide it either to the left or to the right. ■ Tighten the screws again. ■ Then refit the cover. ■ Close the door and check whether it is aligned with the sides of the appliance.
