How do I install the Miele DA 6690 W range hood?

Installation must be done by a qualified technician. The hood should be mounted at least 65 cm above an electric hob and 76 cm above a gas hob. Ensure proper ducting or recirculation setup as per the manual.

How often should I clean the grease filters?

Grease filters should be cleaned every 2 months or when the filter saturation indicator lights up. They are dishwasher-safe at 65°C. Dry them thoroughly before reinserting.

Can the Miele DA 6690 W be used in recirculation mode?

Yes, it can be used with a charcoal filter (sold separately). The charcoal filter should be replaced every 6 months or as indicated by the appliance.

What should I do if the touch controls stop responding?

They contain important notes on the installation, safety, operation and care of the appliance. Miele cannot be held liable for damage caused by non-compliance with these Warning and Safety instructions.

Keep these instructions in a safe place and pass them on to any future owner.

Correct application

This rangehood is designed for domestic use and for use in similar environments by guests in hotel or motel rooms, bed & breakfasts and other typical living quarters. This does not include common/shared facilities or commercial facilities within hotels, motels or bed & breakfasts.

This appliance is not suitable for outdoor use.

It must only be used to extract vapours and remove odours from cooking.

Any other usage is at the owner's risk.

This appliance must not be installed and operated in mobile installations (e.g. on a ship).

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning its use by a person responsible for their safety, and are able to recognise the dangers of misuse.

Safety with children

Young children must not be allowed to use this appliance.
▶ Older children may only use the appliance when its operation has been clearly explained to them and they are able to use it safely, recognising the dangers of misuse.
▶ Cleaning work may only be carried out by older children under the supervision of an adult.
Supervise children while the rangehood is being used. This appliance is not a toy! To avoid the risk of injury, keep children well away and do not allow them to play with it or to use the controls. They will not understand the potential dangers posed by it.
Danger of suffocation! Children may be able to wrap themselves in packing material or pull it over their heads with the risk of suffocation. Keep children away from any packing material.

Technical safety

A damaged appliance is dangerous. Check the appliance for any visible damage. Never install or attempt to use a damaged appliance.
The electrical safety of this appliance can only be guaranteed when continuity is complete between the appliance and an effective earthing system which complies with current local and national safety regulations. It is most important that this basic safety requirement is present and tested regularly and, where there is any doubt, the household wiring system should be inspected by a qualified electrician.
Before connecting the appliance to the mains supply, make sure that the rating on the data plate (voltage and frequency) corresponds to that of the household supply. This data must correspond in order to avoid risk of damage to the appliance. Consult a qualified electrician if in any doubt.
Do not connect the rangehood to the mains electricity supply by a multi-socket unit or an extension lead. These do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance (e.g. danger of overheating).
For appliances with an external fan motor fitted (...EXT models), the connection of the two units must be made using the connection cable and the plug connectors.

These models may only be combined with a Miele external motor.

For safety reasons, this appliance may only be used when it has been fully installed.

▶ Tampering with electrical connections or components and mechanical parts is highly dangerous to the user and can cause operational faults. Only open the housing as described in the instructions given in the installation sheet and in the "Cleaning and care" section of this booklet. Under no circumstances should any other parts of the housing be opened.
▶ Repairs and installation work by unqualified persons could be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for unauthorised work. Installation, maintenance work and repairs to electrical appliances must only be carried out by a Miele approved service technician.
A damaged connection cable must only be replaced by an approved and suitably qualified technician.
▶ Faulty components must only be replaced by genuine Miele spare parts. The manufacturer can only guarantee the safety of the appliance when Miele replacement parts are used.
During installation, maintenance and repair work, the appliance must be disconnected from the mains electricity supply. It is only completely isolated from the electricity supply when:

– the mains fuse is disconnected, or
- the screw-out fuse is removed (in countries where this is applicable), or
- it is switched off at the wall socket and the plug is withdrawn from the socket. Do not pull the mains connection cable but the mains plug to disconnect your appliance from the mains electricity supply.

Using at the same time as other heating appliances that depend on the air from the room

Warning - danger of toxic fumes

▶ Great care should be taken when using the rangehood at the same time and in the same room or area of the house as another heating appliance which depends on the air in the room.

Such appliances include gas, oil, wood or coal-fired boilers and heaters, continuous flow or other water heaters, gas cooktops or ovens which draw air in from the room and duct exhaust gases out through a chimney or extraction ducting.

The appliance draws air in from the room in which it is installed and from neighbouring rooms. This applies to extraction mode and recirculation mode with a recirculation box installed outside the room. If there is insufficient air, an underpressure will occur. The heating appliance may be starved of oxygen, impairing combustion. Harmful gases could be drawn out of the chimney or extraction ducting back into the room, with potentially fatal consequences.

In order to ensure safe operation, and to prevent gases given off by the heating appliances from being drawn back into the room when the extractor and the heater are in operation simultaneously, an underpressure in the room of 0.04 mbar (4 pa) is the maximum permissible.

Ventilation can be maintained by air inlets which cannot be blocked, in windows, doors and outside wall vents, or by other technical measures, such as ensuring that the extractor can only be switched on when the heating appliance is switched off or vice versa.

A ventilation brick alone is not generally sufficient to ensure safe ventilation.

⚠️ The overall ventilation condition of the dwelling must be taken into account. If in any doubt, the advice of a competent builder must be sought.

If the rangehood is being operated in recirculation mode, a heating appliance which draws on air within the room must not be used at the same time.

Correct use

▶ Never use an open flame beneath the rangehood. To avoid the danger of fire, do not flambé or grill over an open flame. When switched on, the rangehood could draw flames into the filter. Fat particles drawn into the rangehood present a fire hazard.
The rangehood can become damaged when exposed to excessive heat from a cooktop.

• When using the rangehood over a gas cooktop, ensure that any burners in use are always covered by a pan. Switch the cooking zone off when a pan is removed, even for a short time.
• Use pots and pans that are the appropriate size for the cooking zone being used.
• Control the flame so that it does not spread out beyond the sides of the pan.
• Do not allow the pans to overheat (e.g. when using a wok).

▶ Always switch the rangehood on when a cooking zone is in use, otherwise condensation may collect in the rangehood, which could cause corrosion.

When cooking with oil or fat, chip pans and deep fat fryers etc., do not leave the pans unattended. Never leave an open grill unattended when grilling. Overheated oil and fat can ignite and could set the rangehood on fire.

Do not use the rangehood without the filters in place. This way you will avoid the risk of grease and dirt getting into the appliance and hindering its smooth operation.
The filters should be cleaned regularly or changed as appropriate.

Saturated filters are a fire hazard.

The rangehood can get very hot during cooking due to heat rising from the cooktop.

Do not touch the housing or the grease filters until the rangehood has cooled down.

Do not use a steam cleaning appliance to clean this appliance.

Pressurised steam could reach the electrical components and cause a short circuit.

Correct installation

▶ Check with the manufacturer of your cooking appliance whether it is safe to install a rangehood above it.
The minimum safety distances between the top of the cooktop and the bottom of the rangehood given in the "Appliance dimensions" section of this booklet must be maintained, unless the cooktop manufacturer states that a greater safety distance is required.

If more than one cooking appliance is fitted beneath the rangehood, and they have different minimum safety distances to the rangehood, select the greater distance.

▶ Safety regulations prohibit the fitting of a rangehood over solid fuel stoves.

All ducting, pipework and fittings must be of non-flammable material. These can be obtained from Miele or from builders' merchants.
The appliance must not be connected to a chimney or vent flue which is in use. Neither should it be connected to ducting which ventilates rooms with fireplaces.
If exhaust air is to be extracted into a chimney or ventilation duct no longer used for other purposes, seek professional advice.

Accessories

▶ Use only Miele Original spare parts. If spare parts or accessories from other manufacturers are used, the warranty will be invalidated, and Miele cannot accept liability.

Disposal of the packing material

The transport and protective packing has been selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal and can normally be recycled.

Ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags, etc. are disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of babies and young children. Danger of suffocation.

Rather than just throwing these materials away, please ensure they are offered for recycling.

Disposal of your old appliance or machine

Electrical and electronic appliances / machines often contain materials which, if handled or disposed of incorrectly, could be potentially hazardous to human health and to the environment. They are, however, essential for the correct functioning of your appliance or machine. Therefore, please do not dispose of your old machine or appliance with your household waste.

Please dispose of it at your local community waste collection / recycling centre and ensure that it presents no danger to children while being stored for disposal.

It should be unplugged or disconnected from the mains electricity supply by a competent person.

The plug must be rendered useless and the cable cut off directly behind the appliance or the machine to prevent misuse.

This control activates the run-on option. The fan can be set to switch off automatically after either 5 or 15 minutes.

⑬ Grease filter sensor

The sensor lights up when the grease filters need to be cleaned.

It is used to reset the operating hours counter every time the grease filters are cleaned (see "Cleaning and care").

It can also be used to check and alter the operating hours counter.

⑭ Charcoal filter sensor

The sensor lights up when the charcoal filter needs to be changed if operating in recirculation mode. For this to happen, the operating hours counter needs to be activated before the appliance is used for the first time.

The sensor is used to reset the operating hours counter every time the charcoal filter is replaced (see "Cleaning and care").

It can also be used to check and alter the operating hours counter.

The air is drawn in and cleaned by the grease filters and directed outside.

If the on-site ventilation system does not have a non-return flap, a

non-return flap is supplied with the appliance. It must be fitted in the exhaust socket in the motor unit.

Having a non-return flap fitted in the ducting ensures that air, once ducted to the outside, cannot get back into the room again.

The flap is closed when the rangehood is switched off.

When the rangehood is switched on, the non-return flap opens for the cooking vapours to be blown directly outside.

The air is drawn in and cleaned first by the grease filters and then by a charcoal filter. The cleaned air is then recirculated back into the kitchen through grilles in the top of the rangehood extension piece.

Before using the rangehood in recirculation mode, ensure that the charcoal filter is in place. See "Cleaning and care".

The EXT models are designed to be connected to an external motor located outside the room.

The external motor is connected to the rangehood by means of a control cable, and is operated by the controls on the rangehood.

Con@ctivity 2.0

Automatic control of the rangehood

This rangehood is fitted with a communication module. It enables the automatic control of the rangehood depending on the operating status of a Miele induction cooktop.

The cooktop transmits information about its operating status to the rangehood via remote control.

• When the cooktop is switched on, the cooktop lighting switches on independently and, after a short time, the rangehood fan also switches on.
• The rangehood automatically selects the power level during cooking. The power level depends on the number of switched on cooking zones and their selected power settings.
• After switching the cooktop off, the fan and the cooktop lighting will switch off automatically after a pre-selected period of time.

Detailed information on this function can be found in "Operation".

For communication to take place, the cooktop must be fitted with a Con@ctivity 2.0 stick ①.

The Con@ctivity 2.0 stick for the cooktop is supplied with this rangehood. Please refer to the Installation instructions for the Con@ctivity 2.0 stick to check whether connection is possible.

In order to be able to utilise the Con@ctivity 2.0 function, radio contact between the cooktop and the rangehood must first be established (see "Activating Con@ctivity 2.0").

Operation (automatic operation)

If Con@ctivity 2.0 is activated, the rangehood always operates in automatic operation (see "Activating Con@ctivity 2.0").

To operate the rangehood manually, see "Cooking without Con@ctivity 2.0".

Cooking with Con@ctivity 2.0 (automatic operation)

■ Switch on the cooking zone at the required setting.

The cooktop lighting on the rangehood switches on.

After a few seconds, the fan switches on briefly on power level 2 and then it changes to level 1.

The rangehood automatically selects the power level during cooking. The power level depends on the number of switched on cooking zones and their selected power settings.

■ If you increase a power setting on the cooktop, or switch on more cooking zones, the rangehood switches to a higher power level.
■ The power level on the rangehood adjusts accordingly when the power settings on the cooktop are reduced or cooking zones are switched off.

The rangehood's power level depends on the entire switched on power of the cooktop.

Examples of fan power levels 1 to 4 (IS)

Reaction time

The rangehood reacts with a slight delay. This is because changing the power setting on the cooktop does not immediately result in more or few vapours.

Because the cooktop sends information to the rangehood in intervals, this can also result in delays.

The reaction occurs within a few seconds or a few minutes.

Searing process

If you switch a cooking zone on at the highest power setting and switch to a lower setting after approx. 60 to 90 seconds*, a searing process is detected. (*60 seconds to 5 minutes on a HiLight cooktop.)

The rangehood switches on and, after switching to a lower cooktop setting, then switches to power level 3 and remains at this level for approx. 5 minutes.

The fan power level is then determined by the Con@ctivity 2.0 function.

■ You can also manually select a fan power level before it is determined by the Con@ctivity 2.0 function.

After cooking

■ When the cooktop is switched off, the rangehood fan power level is gradually lowered until it is finally switched off.
This helps to neutralise any lingering vapours or odours in the air.
- The fan immediately switches from the IS power level directly to power level 3.
- If the fan is operating at power level 3, it will switch to power level 3 after approx. 1 minute.
- From power level 2, the fan switches to power level 1 after approx. 2 minutes.
- After 2 minutes on power level 1, the fan switches off completely.
- After a further 30 seconds, the lighting will go out.
The cooking process is now finished.

Temporarily leaving automatic operation

■ During cooking you can temporarily leave automatic operation if you
- manually select another fan power level, or
- manually switch off the rangehood, or
- activate the run-on option " " on the rangehood.
The fan switches off after the pre-selected run-on time.
The light remains on.

The rangehood functions can now be operated manually (see "Cooking without Con@ctivity 2.0").

■ The rangehood returns to automatic operation if
- you have manually selected a fan power level and then not altered any settings on the rangehood for approx. 5 minutes, or
- the manually selected fan power level is the same as the automatic one, or
- the rangehood's fan and the cooktop are switched off for at least 30 seconds.
The next time the cooktop is switched on, automatic operation is started.

■ If you want to operate the rangehood manually for an entire cooking process, switch on the fan of the rangehood before switching on the cooktop.

If the rangehood and the cooktop are switched off for at least 30 seconds, the next time the cooktop is switched on automatic operation is started.

Cooking without Con@ctivity 2.0 (manual operation)

A condition of manual operation is that Con@ctivity 2.0 is not activated.

However, manual operation is temporarily possible even if Con@ctivity 2.0 is activated (see "Temporarily leaving automatic operation").

The fan will come on at power level 2.

Selecting a power level

Depending on the intensity of the cooking vapours, levels 1 to 3 are usually sufficient for normal cooking.

■ Select the power level you require by touching the 1, 2 or 3 sensors.

Intensive setting

■ For short periods of cooking food with intensive vapours and a strong aroma, e.g. when searing meat, you may wish to select setting IS, the Intensive setting.

Run-on function "515"

It is advisable to leave the fan running for a few minutes after cooking has finished to neutralise any lingering vapours and odours in the air.

The run-on function offers the possibility of automatically switching off the fan after a pre-selected time.

■ After cooking has finished, touch the run-on option sensor ⚠ whilst the fan is still running:
- Once: The fan will switch off after 5 minutes (5 lights up).
- Twice: The fan will switch off after 15 minutes ( ✗ 15 lights up).
■ If you touch the run-on sensor 🎨 again, the fan remains on (5 ⚠15 goes out).

■ Touch the On/Off sensor ① to switch the fan off.

Cooktop lighting

The cooktop lighting can be switched on and off independently of the fan.

■ To do this, touch the cooktop lighting touch control ⚙️.

Power Management System

The Power Management System contributes to saving energy.

It ensures that the fan automatically switches to a lower power level and that the lighting switches off.

• If the Intensive setting is selected, the rangehood switches to power level 3 after 5 minutes, level 2 after two hours, and level 1 after a further 30 minutes. After another 30 minutes, the fan will switch off altogether.
• If fan power levels 2 or 3 are selected, the rangehood switches to the level below after two hours and then lower again in 30-minute steps until finally switching off.
• If level 1 is selected, the fan switches off after two hours.
  – Cooktop lighting will automatically switch off after 12 hours.

If you wish, you can deactivate the Power Management System.

■ Touch the run-on sensor & for approx. 10 seconds until the 1 power level sensor lights up.
■ Touch in turn
- the cooktop lighting touch control -♀-,
- the 1 sensor, and
- the cooktop lighting touch control ♦ again.

If the Power Management System is activated, 1 and IS will light up constantly.

■ Press the 1 sensor to deactivate the Power Management System.

The indicator lights for fan power levels 1 and IS will flash.

Touch the IS sensor to activate the Power Management System again.

■ Confirm by pressing the run-on sensor 🔒.

If you do not confirm your selection within 4 minutes, the rangehood will automatically revert to the original setting.

Operating hours counters

The number of hours the appliance has been in operation is stored in memory.

The operating hours counter tells you when the grease filters or charcoal filters need to be cleaned or replaced.

Grease filter operating hours counter

After 30 hours of operation (or another time if the operating hours counter has been altered), the grease filter sensor will light up.

The grease filters must then be cleaned and the operating hours counter reset (see "Cleaning and Care").

Altering the operating hours counter for the grease filters

You can set the operating hours counter to suit the type of cooking you do.

The operating hours counter is set at the factory for 30 hours.

Select a shorter time of 20 hours if you fry a lot.

If you only cook occasionally, we still recommend 20 hours because grease which has built up gradually over a long period of time will harden on the grease filters and make cleaning more difficult.

If you use very little fat or oil for cooking, select a longer time of 40 or 50 hours.

To alter the operating time:

■ Press the On/Off sensor Ⓐ to switch the fan off.

■ Touch the run-on sensor and the grease filter sensor ⊕ at the same time.

The grease filter sensor ⚙ and one of the fan power level sensors 1 to IS will flash.

Sensors 1 to IS indicate the time set:

1 = 20 hours
2 = 30 hours
3 = 40 hours
IS = 50 hours

■ Select the required time by touching the appropriate sensor.
■ Touch the grease filter sensor ☑ to confirm your selection.

All the lights will go out.

If you do not confirm your selection within 4 minutes, the rangehood will automatically revert to the original setting.

Checking the operating hours counter for the grease filters

To check the percentage of time set already used:

■ Touch the On/Off sensor ① to switch the fan on.
■ Touch and keep your finger on the grease filter sensor Ⓧ.

One or more of the sensors 1 to IS will flash.

The number of flashing sensors indicates the percentage of the operating time which has already been used up.

Sensor 1 25%

Sensors 1 and 2 .... 50 %

Sensors 1 to 3 .... 75 %

Sensors 1 to IS .... 100 %

■ When you take your finger off the grease filter sensor ⚙, the current fan power level will appear.

The number of operating hours used remains in the memory, even when the appliance is switched off or there is a power cut.

Operating hours counter for the charcoal filters

(only for recirculation mode)

On delivery, the operating hours counter for the charcoal filter is switched off.

For recirculation mode, the operating hours counter needs to be set to suit the type of cooking you do:

The charcoal filter sensor ⚙ will light up after the rangehood has operated for the number of hours set.

■ The charcoal filter must then be replaced with a new one.

Afterwards, the grease filter operating hours counter must be reset (See "Cleaning and care").

Activating and altering the operating hours counter for the charcoal filters

■ Touch the On/Off sensor ① to switch the fan off.
■ Touch the run-on sensor ⚙ and the charcoal filter sensor ⚙ at the same time.

The charcoal filter sensor ⚙ and one of the fan power level sensors 1 to IS will flash.

Sensors 1 to IS indicate the time set:

1 = 120 hours

■ Select the required time by touching the appropriate sensor.
■ Confirm the selection by touching the charcoal filter sensor 🔒.

All the lights will go out.

If you do not confirm your selection within 4 minutes, the rangehood will automatically revert to the original setting.

Checking the operating hours counter for the charcoal filter

To check the percentage of time set already used:

■ Touch the On/Off sensor ① to switch the fan on.
■ Touch and keep your finger on the charcoal filter sensor 🔒.

One or more of the sensors 1 to IS will flash.

The number of flashing sensors indicates the percentage of the operating time which has already been used up.

Sensor 1 25%
Sensors 1 and 2 .... 50 %
Sensors 1 to 3 .... 75 %
Sensors 1 to IS .... 100 %

When you take your finger off the charcoal filter sensor ⚙, the current fan power level will appear.

The number of operating hours used remains in the memory, even when the appliance is switched off or there is a power cut.

Sensor tones

When selecting a function with the sensors, an audible tone will sound briefly to confirm.

The audible tone can be deactivated.

■ Touch the On/Off sensor ① to switch the fan off.
■ Touch the IS sensor and the grease filter sensor ⚙ at the same time for approx. 5 seconds until a tone sounds briefly. The audible tone is now switched off for all functions.
■ To reactivate the audible tone, repeat the above process.

After the rangehood has been disconnected from the mains electricity supply or after a power cut, the audible tone is activated regardless of the last setting.

Cleaning and care

⚠️ Before any cleaning or maintenance work is carried out, disconnect the rangehood from the mains electricity supply (see "Warning and Safety instructions").

Housing

General notes

The surfaces and controls are susceptible to scratches and abrasion. Please observe the following cleaning instructions.

■ All external surfaces and controls can be cleaned using warm water with a small amount of washing-up liquid applied with a well wrung-out soft sponge or cloth. Ensure water does not get in behind the controls.
■ Wipe the surfaces dry using a soft cloth.
■ Glass surfaces can also be cleaned with a proprietary glass cleaner.

Do not use:

• cleaning agents containing soda, acids, chlorides or solvents,
• abrasive cleaning agents, e.g. powder cleaners or cream cleaners, and abrasive sponges, e.g. pot scourers or sponges which have been previously used with abrasive cleaning agents. These will damage the surface material.
• sharp metal tools,
• oven sprays.

Important for appliances with stainless steel surfaces

Stainless steel surfaces can be cleaned with a proprietary non-abrasive cleaning agent designed specifically for use on stainless steel.

The Original Miele care product for stainless steel is recommended for preventing resoiling and can be purchased from Miele or at www.miele-shop.com (depending on country). Apply sparingly with a soft cloth following the instructions on the packaging.

Important for appliances with lacquered housing

It is very difficult to clean this type of surface without causing minor marks on the surface material.

This can become particularly noticeable with darker colours and if there is halogen lighting in the kitchen.

Grease filters

The re-usable metal grease filters in the appliance remove solid particles (grease, dust, etc.) from kitchen vapours, preventing soiling of the rangehood.

The grease filters should be cleaned at the latest when the grease filter sensor lights up.

The grease filters should be cleaned regularly (at least every 3–4 weeks) to avoid hardening of collected grease as this will make cleaning difficult.

⚠ An oversaturated filter is a fire hazard.

■ To take out the grease filters, release the locking clip on the filter, lower the filter approx. 45°, unhook it at the back and remove it.

To avoid damaging the filters or the cooktop below, make sure you hold the filters securely at all times when handling them.

Cleaning the grease filters by hand

■ Clean the filters with a soft nylon brush in a mild solution of hot water and a little washing-up liquid. Do not use undiluted washing-up liquid.

Do not use:

- cleaning agents containing descaling agents,

- powder cleaners, cream cleaners or abrasive all-purpose cleaning agents,

- oven sprays.

Cleaning the grease filters in the dishwasher

■ Place the filters as upright as possible in the lower basket. Ensure the spray arm is not obstructed.

■ Do not wash at more than 65 °C. If a Miele dishwasher is being used, select the Sensor wash programme.

■ Use a mild dishwasher detergent.

Depending on the detergent used, cleaning the filters in a dishwasher can cause permanent discolouration to the filter surfaces. However, this will not affect the functioning of the filter in any way.

■ After cleaning, leave the filters to dry on an absorbent surface before refitting them.
■ When removing the filters for cleaning, also clean off any residues of oil or fat from the now accessible housing to prevent the risk of these catching fire.
■ Refit the grease filters, making sure that the locking clips are facing down towards the cooktop.

■ If a grease filter is inadvertently refitted upside down, insert a small screwdriver blade into the slit to disengage the clip.

Resetting the operating hours counter for the grease filters

After cleaning, the operating hours counter needs to be reset.

■ Whilst the fan is switched on, touch the grease filter sensor ⚙ for approx. 3 seconds until only the 1 is flashing.

The grease filter sensor ⚙ light will go out.

If the grease filters are cleaned before the operating hours counter has reached its maximum:

■ Touch the grease filter sensor Ⓧ for approx. 6 seconds until only the 1 sensor is flashing.

Fitting and replacing the charcoal filter

If the rangehood is connected for recirculation, a charcoal filter must be inserted in addition to the grease filters. This is designed to absorb cooking odours and is fitted in the canopy above the grease filters.

Replacement charcoal filters can be obtained from Miele or via the internet at www.miele-shop.com (depending on country).

See back cover for contact details, and "Technical data" for type and reference number.

■ Before fitting or replacing the charcoal filter, the grease filters must first be taken out (see previous section for instructions on how to do this).

■ Unwrap the charcoal filter from its packaging and insert it in the charcoal filter frame.

■ Refit the grease filters.

When fitting for the first time:

■ Activate the operating hours counter (see "Operation").

Always replace the charcoal filter immediately if

- the charcoal filter sensor ● lights up or

- it is no longer effective in absorbing kitchen odours.

It should, however, be replaced at least every 6 months.

Used charcoal filters can be disposed of with the normal household waste.

Resetting the operating hours counter for the charcoal filter

After replacing, the operating hours counter needs to be reset.

■ Whilst the fan is switched on, touch the charcoal filter sensor ⚙ for approx. 3 seconds until only the 1 sensor is flashing. The charcoal filter sensor ⚙ light will go out.

If the charcoal filter is replaced before the operating hours counter has reached its maximum:

■ Touch the charcoal filter sensor ⚙ for approx. 6 seconds until only the 1 sensor is flashing.

Appliance dimensions

- When deciding on the safety distance between the cooktop and rangehood, please note that a distance of 650 mm above electric cooktops may be preferable to give more working space under the rangehood.

- Account should also be taken of the height of the person who will be using the rangehood most often. They should have sufficient space to work comfortably at the cooktop, and be able to reach the rangehood controls with ease.

- Please note that if the rangehood is positioned too high, extraction will be inefficient.

- If you want the top of the rangehood to be mounted flush with the ceiling, make sure there is adequate space below it for working.

Drill holes

For pre-installation on a back wall, refer to the drilling distances in the drawing above (screws 5 mm).

If the rangehood is to be mounted directly to the wall, please refer to the installation manual for information on drilling the holes.

Before installation, it is important to read the information given on the following pages as well as the "Appliance dimensions" and the "Warning and Safety instructions" at the beginning of this booklet. This is particularly crucial when using the rangehood at the same time as a heating appliance that relies on oxygen from the same room, which could result in the build-up of toxic fumes.

Protective foil

(on stainless steel appliances)

The housing components have protective foil around them to prevent them from transport damage.

Remove the protective foil on the housing components before installation. It can be pulled off easily.

Dismantling

Should the appliance ever need to be dismantled, follow the installation instructions in reverse order as described on the installation sheet.

A lever is supplied to assist with the removal of the tower.

■ After loosening the fixing screws on the tower, push the lever between the tower and the telescopic extension piece to lever the tower out of its fixings.

Installation instructions

Important: To avoid the danger of toxic fumes, please observe the Warning and Safety instructions. This is especially crucial when using the rangehood at the same time as another heating appliance which relies on air from the same room. The rangehood should be installed according to local and national building regulations. Seek approval from the building inspector where necessary.

• Only use smooth pipes or flexible hoses made from non-flammable materials for the extraction ducting.
• When using an external motor, make sure that the exhaust ducting is sufficiently rigid. The external motor can cause an underpressure which can result in the exhaust ducting distorting.

To achieve the greatest possible air extraction with the lowest noise level, please note the following:

• To ensure efficient air extraction, the diameter of the exhaust ducting should not be less than 150 mm.
• If flat ducting is being used, the cross-sectional area must not be smaller than the cross-sectional area of the exhaust connection.

If exhaust ducting with a diameter of less than 150 mm, or if flat ducting is used, the noise level of the rangehood will increase and extraction will be less efficient.

• All ducting, pipework and fittings must be of non-flammable materials.
• The exhaust ducting should be as short and straight as possible.
• Only use wide radius bends.
• The exhaust ducting should not be kinked or compressed.

• Ensure that all connections are strong and airtight.

• Where ducting is horizontal, it must be laid to slope away at at least 1 cm per metre. This is to ensure that condensate cannot drain back into the rangehood.

• If the exhaust air is to be ducted into the open air, the installation of a telescopic wall vent or roof vent (available as an optional accessory) is recommended.

- If the exhaust air is to be ducted into a vent flue, the ducting must be directed in the flow direction of the flue.

Important:

If the exhaust ducting is to run through rooms, ceiling space etc. where there may be great variations in temperature between the different areas, the problem of condensation will need to be addressed. The exhaust ducting will need to be suitably insulated.

Condensate trap

(optional accessory)

For installations in areas where the exhaust ducting is exposed to cold temperatures, we recommend insulating the exhaust ducting and installing a condensate trap to collect and evaporate any condensate which may occur. Condensate traps are available for ∅ 125 mm or ∅ 150 mm ducting.

When installing a condensate trap, ensure that it is positioned vertically and, if possible, directly above the exhaust connection. The arrow on the housing indicates the direction of air-flow.

Rangehoods designed for use with an external motor (...EXT models) have an integrated condensate trap.

Silencer

(DASD 150, optional accessory)

To achieve even further reductions in noise levels, a special silencer can be fitted in the ducting system.

...with air extraction:

The silencer not only reduces noise from the motor outside the house, but also sounds from outside (e.g. traffic noise).

For this reason, the silencer must be positioned as close as possible to the ducting exit ①.

...in recirculation mode:

The silencer needs to be positioned between the exhaust connection and the directional unit ②. Ensure there is adequate space in the tower for fitting it.

...air extraction with external motor:

To minimise noise from the motor in the kitchen, the silencer should be positioned in front of the external motor ③ if possible, or if the ducting is long, above the exhaust connection on the rangehood ④.

In the case of an external motor located inside the house, fitting a silencer behind the external motor ⑤ reduces the noise of the motor outside the house.

In all modes of operation, the most effective noise reductions are achieved if two silencers are fitted one behind the other in the system.

All electrical work should be undertaken by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with current national and local safety regulations.

Installation, repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous, for which the manufacturer cannot be held liable.

Ensure power is not supplied to the appliance until after installation or repair work has been carried out.

Do not connect the appliance to the mains electricity supply by an extension lead. These do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance.

The connection data is given on the data plate. This is visible when the grease filters have been removed. Ensure that this data matches the household mains supply.

Connection of this appliance should be made via a suitable isolator which complies with national and local safety regulations and the On-Off switch should be easily accessible after the appliance has been built in.

If the switch is not accessible after installation, an additional means of disconnection must be provided for all poles.

For extra safety, it is advisable to install a suitable residual current device (RCD). Contact a qualified electrician for advice.

Important

This appliance is supplied for connection to an AC 230 V single phase 50 Hz supply.

The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code:

Green/yellow = earth

Blue = neutral

Brown = live

If the connection cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard.

Installing the Con@ctivity 2.0 stick

In order to be able to utilise the Con@ctivity 2.0 function, the cooktop must be fitted with the Con@ctivity 2.0 stick. This is supplied with the rangehood.

■ Please refer to the Installation instructions for the Con@ctivity 2.0 stick.

In order to be able to utilise the Con@ctivity 2.0 function, radio contact must be activated between the cooktop and the rangehood.

For the Con@ctivity 2.0 function to work, both appliances must be installed and functional.

Activation only needs to occur once. If the appliances are disconnected from the electricity supply (e.g. due to a power cut), activation will be retained.

Important! To establish radio contact, the rangehood and cooktop must be activated at the same time. First start activation on the rangehood, and then on the cooktop.

Activating Con@ctivity 2.0 on the rangehood

■ Switch off the fan, the cooktop lighting and the cooktop.
■ Touch the run-on sensor 🎥 for approx. 10 seconds until the 1 sensor lights up.
■ Touch in turn
- the 1 sensor,
- then the IS sensor,
- and finally the cooktop lighting touch control ⚙️.

If Con@ctivity 2.0 is not activated, the 2 and 3 sensors will flash simultaneously.

■ To activate Con@ctivity 2.0, touch the IS sensor.

The search for a radio contact will start, the 2 sensor lights up constantly and the 3 sensor will flash.

■ In the meantime start the activation of the cooktop.

Activating Con@ctivity 2.0 on the cooktop

■ While the rangehood is searching for the radio contact, start the activation of the cooktop.

For information about this, please refer to the Operating instructions for the cooktop.

Radio contact is established.

The 2 and 3 sensors on the cooktop light up constantly.

■ Confirm the activation of the rangehood with the run-on sensor ⚠. All indicator lights will go out.

■ Confirm the activation of the cooktop.

The Con@ctivity 2.0 function can now be used.

If confirmation does not occur within 4 minutes of the settings being made, activation will not take place.

Checking if Con@ctivity 2.0 has been activated

If you want to check if the Con@ctivity 2.0 function of the rangehood has been activated:

■ Switch off the fan and the cooktop lighting.
■ Touch the run-on sensor & for approx. 10 seconds until the 1 sensor lights up.
■ Then touch in turn

- the 1 sensor,

- then the IS sensor,

- and finally the cooktop lighting touch control ⚙️.

If Con@ctivity 2.0 is activated, the 2 and 3 sensors will light up constantly.

If Con@ctivity 2.0 is not activated, the 2 and 3 sensors will flash simultaneously.

■ To confirm the question, touch the run-on sensor ⚙. All the indicator lamps will go out.
■ To check activation on the cooktop, please refer to the Operating instructions for the cooktop.

If radio contact cannot be established despite the rangehood and cooktop being activated, both appliances must first be deactivated and then reactivated.

Deactivation

To deactivate the rangehood:

■ Switch off the fan, the cooktop lighting and the cooktop.
■ Touch the run-on sensor 🎥 for approx. 10 seconds until the 1 sensor lights up.
■ Touch in turn
- the 1 sensor,
- then the IS sensor,
- and finally the cooktop lighting touch control ⚙️.

If Con@ctivity 2.0 is activated, the 2 and 3 sensors will light up constantly.

■ To deactivate Con@ctivity 2.0, touch the 1 sensor.

After successfully deactivating the rangehood, the indicator lights for the power levels "II" and "III" will flash simultaneously.

■ Confirm by touching the run-on sensor ⚠. All the indicator lights will go out.
■ Deactivate the cooktop. For information about this, please refer to the Operating instructions for the cooktop.

The reactivation of both appliances will subsequently be possible.
