How to use the Unold 18320 kettle for the first time?

Before first use, remove all packaging. Clean the reservoir and base with a damp cloth. Fill with fresh water up to the 'Max' mark (1 L). Close the lid, place on base, plug in and turn on. Let it boil then discard this water. The appliance is then ready for use.

What is the maximum capacity of the kettle?

The maximum capacity is 1.0 liter, indicated by the 'Max' mark. Do not exceed this amount to avoid overflow of boiling water.

How to clean and descale the kettle?

Allow to cool, unplug and wipe the outside with a damp cloth. Never immerse the appliance in water. For descaling, use a commercial descaling agent for kettles: fill half, heat without boiling, let it sit, empty, then rinse twice with clear water.

What to do if the kettle does not turn on or stops during operation?

Check that the reservoir is correctly placed on the base. If the boil-dry protection has triggered (due to lack of water or excess limescale), let it cool for 15 minutes, refill with cold water and reuse. If the problem persists, contact after-sales service.

Can the kettle heat milk or other liquids?

No, the kettle is designed only for heating water. Milk or other liquids may overflow and damage the appliance or cause burns.

How long does it take to boil 1 liter of water?

The heating time depends on the power (1,850-2,200 W) and the initial temperature. Generally, 1 liter of water at room temperature reaches boiling in about 3 to 5 minutes.

Does the kettle have automatic shut-off?

Yes, automatic shut-off at boiling turns off the appliance as soon as the water boils. Additionally, if you remove the reservoir from the base, the appliance turns off automatically. There is also boil-dry protection.

What are the important safety instructions?

Never open the lid during boiling, do not touch hot parts, keep out of reach of children under 8 years, do not immerse the base or reservoir, use only on a flat and heat-resistant surface, and unplug after use.

How to store the power cord?

9. Never heat objects such as cans or bottles in the electric kettle.
10. Make sure that the lid of the appliance is always completely closed, to prevent injuries from hot splashing water.
11. Do not open the lid as long as the water is boiling, to prevent injuries from hot splashing water.
12. Never fill the appliance with more than 1.0 liters of water, to prevent the water from boiling over.
13. Never switch on the appliance if there is no water in the kettle.
14. Make sure that all users, especially children, are aware of the danger of injury from emerging steam or hot splashing water – danger of burns!
15. Do not move the appliance as long as it is in operation, to prevent burns from splashing water.
16. The electric kettle features boil dry protection, which

means the appliance shuts off automatically if the heating element becomes too hot. Allow the appliance to cool about 15 minutes. Then fill the electric kettle with cold water. The boil dry protection is deactivated and the appliance is ready for operation again.

1. Do not use the appliance with accessories of other manufacturers or brands, to prevent damage.

2. Unplug the appliance from the power supply after use and prior to cleaning. Never leave the appliance unattended when it is plugged in to the power supply.

3. Check the appliance, the plug and the power cord regularly for wear or damage. In case of damage to the power cord or other parts, please send the appliance or the base for inspection and repair to our after sales service. Unauthorized repairs can result in serious risks to the user and void the warranty.

4. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent or a similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard.

CAUTION:

The appliance becomes very hot during operation!

Do not open the lid while the water is boiling. If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water can splash out.

Never open the housing of the appliance. This can result in electric shock.

The manufacturer will not be liable in the event of incorrect assembly, improper or incorrect use or if repairs are carried out by unauthorized third parties.

BEFORE USING THE APPLIANCE THE FIRST TIME

1. Remove all packaging materials and any transport safety devices.
2. Clean all parts with a damp cloth, as described in the chapter "Cleaning and care".
3. Check to make sure that the appliance is stable.
4. Connect the base via the power cord to the power supply (220–240 V\~, 50 Hz).
5. Remove the kettle from the base.
6. Open the lid by gripping into the lid and pulling it upwards.

7. Add clear, cold water to the "Max" marking.

8. Close the lid by pressing lightly.

9. Place the kettle level on the base.
10. Switch on the kettle by pressing the ON/OFF switch downwards into the „I“-position. The kettle cannot be switched on if it is not properly seated on the base.
11. When the water boils, the appliance automatically shuts off.
12. For hygienic reasons, please discard the water from the first boiling.

OPERATION

1. Remove the kettle from the base.
2. Open the lid by gripping into the lid and pulling it upwards.
3. Fill the kettle with at least 0.5 liters of water. Do not fill the kettle with more than 1.0 liters of water (“Max” marking).
4. Close the lid by pressing lightly.
5. Place the kettle level on the base.
6. Switch on the kettle by pressing the ON/OFF switch downwards into the „I“-position. The kettle cannot be switched on if it is not properly seated on the base.
7. When the water boils, the appliance automatically shuts off.

8. Whenever you take the kettle off the base, the appliance is automatically switched off, even if the water is not yet boiling.

9. Of course you may also push the switch into the „O“-position to interrupt heating.

10. If you want to boil more water, please allow the appliance to cool off for a few minutes.

Boiling water can cause scal- ding. Therefore, please handle the appliance with care when it contains hot water.

1. The appliance features boil dry protection. When operated without water or with excessive scaling, the appliance shuts off automatically. If this happens, please allow the appliance to cool off briefly before filling it with water again or descale the appliance as described in the chapter “Descaling”.

CLEANING AND CARE

Allow the appliance to cool before cleaning it.

Before cleaning, always turn off the appliance and unplug it from the power supply.

1. Do not immerse the base, power cord or kettle in water or other liquids or wash them in the dishwasher.

2. Wipe off the base and the kettle with a damp cloth and a little dishwashing detergent. Do not use any abrasive scouring agents, steel wool, metal objects, hot cleaning agents or disinfectants, since they can damage the appliance.

3. The appliance must be completely dry on the outside before you use it again.

DESCALING

1. To keep the appliance operating efficiently and to prolong its service life, it should be descaled regularly, depending on the hardness of your water.

2. Use off-the-shelf descaling products for electronic kettles and comply with the manufacturer's instructions. To descale, fill the kettle half full, maximum, otherwise the liquid can boil over and can cause severe injuries.

3. Heat the liquid (do not boil!) and allow it to sit for some time in the electronic kettle.

4. Pour the descaling solution out of the kettle.
5. Then fill it with fresh water and bring to a boil. Pour this water out as well. Then rinse out the kettle at least twice with clean water.

GUARANTEE CONDITIONS

We grant a 24 months guarantee, and in case of commercial use a 12 months guarantee, starting from the date of purchase for any damage demonstrably due to manufacturing defects and when the appliance has been used according to its intended use. Within the warranty period we will remedy defective materials or workmanship through repair or replacement, at our option. Our warranty terms apply only to appliances sold in Germany and Austria. For other countries, please contact the responsible importer. In the event of a claim for remedy of defects, please send the appliance to our after sales service, properly packaged and postage paid, together with a copy of the automatically generated sales receipt, which must show the date of purchase, and a description of the defect. If the defect is covered by the warranty, the customer will be reimbursed for the shipping costs only in Germany and Austria. The warranty does not cover damage from normal wear, improper handling and failure to comply with the maintenance and care instructions. The warranty is void if repairs or modifications are made to the appliance by third parties. Any claims of the end consumer vis-à-vis the retailer are not limited by this warranty.

WASTE DISPOSAL / ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Our appliances are produced on a high quality level for a long lifetime. Regular maintenance and expert repairs by our after-sales service can extend the useful life of the appliance. If an appliance is defective and repair is not possible we ask you to follow the following instructions for disposal.

Do not dispose this appliance together with your standard household waste. Please bring this product to an approved collection point for recycling of electric and electronic products.

By separate collection and disposal of waste products you help to protect natural resources and ensure, that the product is disposed in an adequate way to protect health and environment.
