How do I charge my Philips Sonicare AirFloss HX8241?

Place the handle on the charging base and plug the base into a power outlet. The LED indicator will flash during charging and become steady when fully charged. Full charge takes about 24 hours.

How often should I replace the nozzle tip?

Replace the nozzle tip every 3 months or sooner if bristles become frayed. To replace, pull off the old tip and snap on a new one. Use only Philips Sonicare AirFloss replacement tips.

Can I use the AirFloss with braces or implants?

Yes, the AirFloss is safe for braces, implants, bridges, and crowns. Use the lowest pressure setting initially and direct the nozzle at a 90-degree angle between teeth.

What does the pressure sensor do?

The pressure sensor detects if you are pressing too hard against your gums. If triggered, it will temporarily reduce water flow to prevent discomfort. Release pressure to resume normal operation.

How do I clean the AirFloss handle?

Wipe the handle with a damp cloth. Do not immerse in water. The nozzle and reservoir can be rinsed under running water. Ensure the device is turned off and unplugged before cleaning.

Is the AirFloss waterproof?

The handle has an IPX7 rating, meaning it can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. However, do not fully submerge the charging base.

Why is my AirFloss not producing water?

Ensure the reservoir is filled and properly snapped in. Check that the nozzle tip is not clogged. If still not working, try switching to a different burst mode (single/double/triple) or charge the device.

How do I adjust the pressure settings?

Press the power button to cycle through modes: single burst (low), double burst (medium), triple burst (high). The LED will indicate the selected mode. Start with low pressure if you have sensitive gums.

Can I use mouthwash in the reservoir?

Yes, you can use diluted mouthwash, but avoid thick or sugary liquids as they may clog the nozzle. Rinse the reservoir with water after use.

What do I do if the battery stops holding a charge?

The battery is built-in and not user-replaceable. If under warranty, contact Philips support for a replacement. After warranty, you may need to purchase a new handle.

Read this user manual carefully before you use the appliance and save it for future reference.

Danger

- Keep the charger away from water. Do not place or store it over or near water contained in a bathtub, washbasin, etc. Do not immerse the charger in water or any other liquid. After cleaning, make sure the charger is completely dry before you connect it to the mains

Warning

• The mains cord cannot be replaced. If the mains cord is damaged, discard the charger. Always have the charger replaced with one of the original type in order to avoid a hazard.
• If the appliance is damaged in any way (AirFloss nozzle, handle and/or charger), stop using it.
• This appliance contains no serviceable parts. If the appliance is damaged, contact the Consumer Care Centre in your country (see chapter ‘Guarantee and support’).
• Do not use the charger outdoors or near heated surfaces.
• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

Caution

• If you have had recent oral or gum surgery, suffer from an ongoing dental condition or had extensive dental work in the previous 2 months, consult your dentist before you use this appliance.
• Consult your dentist if excessive bleeding occurs after using this appliance or if bleeding continues to occur after 1 week of use.

• Do not exert excessive pressure on the guidance tip of the nozzle.
• To avoid physical injury, do not fill the reservoir with hot water. Do not put foreign objects in the reservoir.
• Only use the AirFloss for its intended purpose as described in this user manual.
• To avoid physical injury, do not direct the spray under the tongue or into the ear, nose, eye or other sensitive area.
• Do not clean the AirFloss nozzle, the handle, the charger, the water reservoir and its cover in the dishwasher or a microwave.
• To avoid an ingestion hazard, do not put isopropyl alcohol or other cleaning fluids in the reservoir.
• The AirFloss is a personal care device and is not intended for use on multiple patients in a dental practice or institution.

Charging

Charge the AirFloss for 24 hours before first use.

1 Put the plug of the charger in the wall socket.
2 Place the handle on the charger (Fig. 2).
The charge indicator flashes green to indicate that the appliance is charging (Fig. 3).

Note: When it is fully charged, the AirFloss has an operating time of up to 2 weeks (or 14 uses).

Note: When the charge indicator flashes yellow, the battery is low and needs to be recharged (fewer than 3 uses left).

Preparing for use

1 Align the nozzle so the tip faces the front of the handle and press the nozzle down onto the handle ('click') (Fig. 4).

Note: Replace the nozzle every 6 months for optimal results. Also replace the nozzle if it becomes loose or no longer clicks onto the handle.

2 Open the cover of the reservoir ('click') (Fig. 5).

3 Fill the reservoir with mouthwash or water (Fig. 6).

Note: To operate effectively, the AirFloss has to contain either mouthwash or water.

Tip: For a fresher experience, use mouthwash instead of water.

Note: Do not use mouthwash that contains isopropyl myristate (e.g. Dentyl Active) or high concentrations of essentials oils, as it may damage the appliance. This includes all mouthwash sold in glass and ceramic packaging.

4 Close the cover of the reservoir ('click') (Fig. 7).
5 Press the on/off button (Fig. 8).

The green charge indicator lights up.

6 Press and hold the activation button until spray comes out of the tip of the nozzle (Fig. 9).

Using the appliance

1 Make sure the AirFloss is switched on (Fig. 8).
2 Place the tip between the teeth and apply gentle pressure. Slightly close your lips over the nozzle when it is in place, to avoid splashing (Fig. 10).

Tip: Use your finger to press the activation button.

Note: The AirFloss is intended to be used on the front/outside surface of the teeth only.

3 Press the activation button to deliver a single burst of air and micro-droplets of mouthwash or water between the teeth. Alternatively, hold the activation button to deliver continuous bursts of mouthwash or water approximately every 1 second (select models) (Fig. 11).
4 Slide the guidance tip along the gum line until you feel it settle between the next two teeth.
5 Continue this procedure for all spaces including behind your back teeth (Fig. 12).
6 To switch off the AirFloss, press the on/off button again.

Automatic shut-off function

The automatic shut-off function automatically switches off the AirFloss if it has not been used for 4 minutes.

Cleaning

Do not clean the nozzle, handle or charger in the dishwasher.

Do not use cleaning agents to clean the appliance.

Handle and nozzle

1 Remove the nozzle from the handle. Rinse the nozzle after each use (Fig. 13).
2 Open the reservoir and rinse it under the tap to eliminate residue (Fig. 14).

Tip: You can also use a cotton bud to wipe the reservoir.

Note: Do not immerse the handle in water.

3 Wipe the entire surface of the handle with a damp cloth (Fig. 15). Charger

1 Unplug the charger before you clean it.
2 Wipe the surface of the charger with a damp cloth (Fig. 16).

Storage

If you are not going to use the AirFloss for an extended period of time, follow the steps below.

1 Open the cover of the reservoir and empty the reservoir.
2 Press the activation button until no more spray comes out of the nozzle.
3 Unplug the charger.
4 Clean the AirFloss nozzle, handle and charger.
5 Store the AirFloss in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Recycling

Do not throw away the appliance with the normal household waste at the end of its life, but hand it in at an official collection point for recycling. By doing this, you help to preserve the environment.

Removing the rechargeable battery

Please note that this process is not reversible.

1 To deplete the battery, repeatedly press the activation button until the AirFloss no longer produces any bursts of air (Fig. 17).
2 Use a screwdriver to pry open the handle (Fig. 18).
3 Cut the wires and remove the battery from the appliance. Observe basic safety precautions (Fig. 19).
