Frequently Asked Questions - SR-W22FG PANASONIC

How do I cook white rice with the SR-W22FG?
Measure rice using the provided measuring cup. Rinse and place in the inner pot. Add water to the corresponding water level mark inside the pot. Close the lid, plug in, and press the cook button. The light will indicate cooking. When done, it automatically switches to keep warm.
What is the correct rice-to-water ratio?
For white rice, use 1 cup of rice to about 1.2 cups of water. Adjust slightly for personal preference. Refer to the water level markings inside the pot for precise measurement.
Can I cook other grains like quinoa or oats?
Yes, you can cook other grains. Use the appropriate water ratio (e.g., 1 cup quinoa to 2 cups water). Monitor closely as cooking times may vary. Not recommended for very small grains like millet.
How do I clean the rice cooker?
Unplug and let cool. Remove the inner pot and wash with mild detergent and a soft sponge. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. Clean the lid and steam vent regularly to prevent blockages.
Why is my rice cooker not turning on?
Check that the power cord is firmly connected to the cooker and outlet. Ensure the cook button is pressed down properly. If still not working, test another outlet. If problem persists, contact Panasonic support.
Can I open the lid during cooking?
It is not recommended as it releases steam and heat, affecting cooking performance. If needed, press the cancel/off button first, open carefully to avoid steam burns.
How long does it take to cook rice?
Cooking time varies by rice type and quantity. Typically, white rice takes 20-30 minutes. Brown rice may take 40-50 minutes. The cooker automatically switches to keep warm when done.
What does the 'Keep Warm' light mean?
When the keep warm light is on, the cooker is maintaining the rice at a safe serving temperature (approx. 65-70°C). This function activates automatically after cooking.
Can I use metal utensils in the inner pot?
No, metal utensils can scratch the non-stick coating. Use the provided rice spatula or other plastic/wooden utensils to protect the pot.
Is it safe to leave the rice cooker unattended?
Yes, the cooker has automatic shut-off and overheat protection. However, do not leave it unattended for extended periods after cooking to prevent food spoilage.

Make sure the Pan is sitting properly in the Body. Keep the outside of the Pan and the Heater clean and dry. If the Pan is not positioned correctly or if there is any foreign matter between them, the switch may pop up sooner or the Heater may be damaged. Do not use the appliance if it has foreign matter. It may cause malfunction.

NOTE: This Rice Cooker has been designed with a Thermal Fuse which may shut off the electric supply when any abnormality such as those mentioned above occurs.

Do not leave the Steaming Plate between the Heater and the Pan.

Do not place the steaming plate between the heater and the pan.

Steaming Plate, Heater (蒸盤, ظرف بخاربز, لوحة البخار, 加热器, گرمکن, السخن)

When cooking other than rice, ensure that the Lid is removed to prevent overflow.

Do not leave the Lid overturned in a place where it can reflect sunlight. If direct light is subjected to the concave side of the Lid, it may focus on furniture, walls, etc., and damages may result.

Any residue of vinegar or salt may cause the Pan to corrode.

Remove any paper located between the Pan and the Heater before use.

Do not press down the switch continuously by force or use any object to hold it from popping up.

For both inner and outer surface of the Pan

Do not hit or rub it. Do not wash with cleanser, scrubbing brush or nylon brush. Do not bump it to hard things. Do not wash dishes inside the Pan. Do not use metal utensils in the Pan (spoons, forks). Do not mix vinegar in the Pan when making sushi rice. Do not use whisk to wash rice. Do not use the metal ladle.

For both inner and outer surface of the Pan

Wash it immediately after cooking if seasoning was used. If seasoning was used, wash immediately after cooking.

1. Measure rice with the provided measuring cup. One cup of uncooked rice makes approximately 2 cups of cooked rice. Rinse rice in a separate bowl until water becomes relatively clear.

2. For parboiled rice, wash the rice well. The standard ratio of rice and water is 1:3. Adjust the water according to taste.

3. Place the Cooking Plate in the Pan. Place the cooking plate in the pan.

4. Place rinsed rice in the Pan. Using the markings on the Pan. For example, to cook 6 cups of rice, put the rice into the Pan and then add water to the LEVEL INDICATOR 6.

5. Set the Pan in the Rice Cooker. To place correctly on the Heater, turn the Pan gently to right and left. Cover with the Lid and let rice soak approximately 30 minutes.

Plug in. The Power indicator lamp lights.

Do not plug in until ready to cook. Otherwise, rice may be ruined.

If the Pan is not in the Rice Cooker, cooking will not begin.

Plug in the power. The power indicator light turns on.

Press the switch. The "Rice Cooking" indicator (Orange) tells you cooking has started.

When rice is done, the switch will pop up. The "Keep Warm" indicator changes to orange to signal "Keep Warm" function is working.

After the switch pops up, leave the Lid closed for at least 15 minutes to steam rice. Then mix the rice well by using a rice scoop to allow water vapor to escape (especially when cooking towards maximum quantity).

Unplug after use. Grasp plug, not the cord.

After use, disconnect the power. Pull the plug, not the cord.

■ Place the Steaming Plate in the Pan. ■ Pour water below the Steaming Plate to steam food. ■ Cover with the Lid and switch on. ■ To reheat cold rice, use the steaming function only.

The 2 Dish Separator is a shallow Pan, which can be placed on the Pan enabling you to cook 2 dishes at the same time. The figures above show you how to set the 2 Dish Separator.

COOKING

Vegetables, quick cooking pulses, sprouts, fish, marinated chicken etc., can be cooked in the 2 Dish separator while 2 to 5 cups of rice in the Pan.

STEAMING

You can use the 2 Dish Separator for steaming vegetables and other steam cooking dishes. To use as a steamer, pour 1 or 2 cups of water in the Pan of the Rice Cooker position. When the water in the Pan starts boiling, place the 2 Dish Separator on the Pan. Switch off the Rice Cooker manually when the dish is done.

WARMING

To use as a warmer, place the food to be heated over the boiling water in the Pan for 5 to 10 min. You can also do this when some other dish is being cooked in the Pan.

Unplug before cleaning. Soak the Pan and the Steaming Plate in hot water to loosen cooked-on rice. Do not immerse the Rice Cooker in water or any other liquid. Wipe with a well-wrung cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool. Clean with non-metal brush or sponge. Please use fine sand paper (around No. 600) or dry cloth to gently clean the Heater. For Parboiled rice, once the rice is cooked, there may be a possibility of scorch at the bottom of the Pan. Kindly clean it properly and use further. Unplug before cleaning.
