Introduction

The SATSASTRX25 provides a convenient and fast way to hot swap drives with the StarTech.com single-bay backplane and the four-bay backplane. This means that you can exchange the drives while the backplanes are still running.

You can use the SATSASTRX25 as an extra tray to create expandable storage or as part of a rotating backup solution. The drive tray supports both SAS and SATA 2.5 in. drives, ranging in height from 5 to 15 mm. To maximize the performance of your drives, the single and four-bay backplanes support SAS II and SATA III, enabling file transfer speeds up to 6Gbps when paired with a compatible controller.

The SATSASTRX25 is OS independent and doesn't require any additional drivers or software.

The SATSASTRX25 is designed to be used with the StarTech.com SATSASBP125 and SATSASBP425 series of backplanes.

Install a drive

The SATSASTRX25 supports drives that are 5 mm, 7 mm, 9.5 mm, 12.5 mm, or 15 mm high.

Warning! Drives should be handled carefully, especially when they're transported. If you're not careful with your drives, you may lose data as a result. Always handle storage devices with caution. Make sure that you're properly grounded by wearing an anti-static strap when you install any computer component. If an anti-static strap isn't available, touch a large grounded metal surface for several seconds to discharge any built-up static electricity.

1. Insert the drive into the drive tray, making sure that the mounting holes on the bottom of the drive line up with the mounting holes on the drive tray.
2. Insert the provided screws through the mounting holes in the drive tray and into the holes in the drive.
3. Tighten the screws by turning them clockwise.

Remove a drive

Warning! You should disconnect the drive from your computer before you physically remove the drive tray from the backplane.

1. Remove the drive tray from the SATSASBPx25 backplane.
2. Remove the screws from the mounting holes in the drive tray and the drive.
3. Remove the drive from the drive tray.
