Which Canon cameras are compatible with the Vello BG-C10-2 battery grip?

What types of batteries can be used in this grip?

The grip accepts up to two Canon LP-E6/E6N(H) rechargeable Li-ion batteries or six AA/LR6 alkaline, Ni-MH, Lithium, or Nickel-Manganese batteries.

How do I attach the battery grip to my camera?

Turn off the camera. Remove the camera's battery chamber door and store it in the grip's holder. Align the grip's power contacts with the camera's battery chamber, attach the grip, and rotate the thumbwheel counterclockwise until tight.

How do I insert batteries into the grip?

Turn off the camera and set the grip's control lock switch to Off. Remove the battery tray from the grip. Insert LP-E6 batteries into slots 1 and 2, pushing down to lock, or place six AA batteries into the AA tray. Insert the tray back into the grip and lock it. Turn on the camera and set the control lock to On.

What does the control lock switch do?

The control lock switch disables all the grip's controls (shutter release, dial, buttons) to prevent accidental triggering during storage or transport.

How do I remove the battery grip?

Turn off the camera, switch the grip's control lock to Off, remove the batteries, then rotate the thumbwheel clockwise to detach the grip from the camera.

Can I use Duracell alkaline batteries?

The manual advises against using Duracell® brand alkaline batteries as they may not perform well. Use other recommended AA battery types.

Why doesn't the battery indicator show correctly with AA batteries?

The battery indicator works accurately only with NiMH rechargeable batteries when using the AA battery tray. Other AA types may not show the correct level.

What precautions should I take when using the battery grip?

The Vello BG-C10-2 battery grip offers extended shooting time and comfort when shooting in a vertical (portrait) orientation. The grip is compatible with the Canon 90D, 80D, and 70D DSLR Cameras and accepts up to two Canon LP-E6/E6N(H) rechargeable batteries. It offers an alternate shutter release button, main dial, and access to AF-ON and autofocus and autoexposure selection buttons, making the grip ideal for shooting portrait photography. The control-lock switch disables all the grip's controls to prevent unwanted triggering.

Precautions

1. The BG-C10-2 should be used only with the compatible devices specified in this manual.
2. Use only with the batteries and battery holders recommended in this manual.
3. If you notice smoke, noise, or an unusual smell from the battery pack, discontinue use immediately. Remove the batteries, and take the device to a Vello authorized reseller.

4. The battery level may not display properly if batteries are installed before mounting the grip.

5. Remove batteries from the grip when not in use.

6. Do not attempt to disassemble.
7. Avoid exposing this product to water or extreme humidity, and keep it in a cool, dry place.
8. Keep out of reach of children.

Attaching the Battery Grip

1. Ensure that the camera is turned off.

1. Remove the camera's battery chamber door. Pull gently at a 45° angle until the door detaches.

1. Slide the chamber door into the BG-C10-2's camera battery door holder for safekeeping.

1. Insert the battery grip's power contacts into the camera's battery chamber and attach the grip to the camera.

1. Rotate the thumbwheel counterclockwise until the grip is secured to the camera.

Inserting Batteries

1. Turn off the camera's power, and make sure the grip's control lock switch is in the Off position.

1. Twist the battery tray's lock, and remove the battery tray from the grip.

1. Canon LP-E6 / E6N(H) batteries: Insert the first battery into slot 1 as shown, and push down to lock the battery in place. Repeat for slot 2.

1. AA Batteries: Place six identical AA batteries into the AA battery tray as indicated.

1. Insert and lock the battery tray inside the battery grip.

1. Turn on the camera power, and switch the grip's control lock to the On position.
