Installation

Depending on your Operating System version and whether or not you have an active network connection, the USB to Serial Adapter may auto-install, or auto-download the proper drivers once connected to an available USB port on the host system. If the USB to Serial Adapter does not automatically install the drivers, follow the steps below to complete the installation process.

Windows®

1. Connect the provided USB 2.0 Cable to the USB to Serial Adapter, and then to an available USB port on the host computer. The drivers should automatically install.

Device Setup Installing Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM5) Please wait while Setup installs necessary files on your system. This may take several minutes.

1. If the drivers did not automatically download and/or install, download the latest drivers from the www.startech.com website (recommended), or insert the provided Driver CD into your computers CD/DVD drive.

2. Browse to the downloaded driver file location and run the ".exe" install application. Follow any on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation process.

3. If using the Driver CD method, select the Open folder to view files option from the AutoPlay menu. If AutoPlay is disabled on your system, browse to your CD/DVD drive.

4. Run the ".exe" install application and follow any on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation process.

Note: You may be prompted to restart your system.

1. Connect your RS232 Serial Device to the DB-9 Port on the USB to Serial Adapter

Mac OS®

1. Connect the provided USB 2.0 Cable to the USB to Serial Adapter, and then to an available USB port on the host computer.
2. If the drivers did not automatically download and/or install, download the latest drivers from the www.startech.com website (recommended), or insert the provided Driver CD in to your computers CD/DVD drive.
3. Browse to the downloaded driver file location and run the ".dmg" install application. Follow any on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation process.
4. If using the Driver CD method, browse to your CD/DVD drive and run the ".dmg" install application and follow any on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation process.

Verifying Installation

Windows®

1. From the main desktop or start menu, open the Device Manager by right-clicking on Computer, and then selecting Manage. In the Computer Management window, select Device Manager from the left window panel. (For Windows® 8.1, right-click on the Start button and click Device Manager).
2. Expand the "Ports (COM & LPT)" section. With the USB to Serial adapter connected, on a successful install you should see the following device in the list with no exclamation points or question marks.

Mac OS®

1. Open the System Profiler by clicking the Apple symbol in the top left corner, selecting About this Mac, then select System Report.
2. Expand the "Hardware" section and click "USB" in the left column. With the USB to Serial Adapter connected, on a successful install you should see the following device in the list.
