Safety information
Read this manual before powering or installing the device, follow the safety precautions listed below and observe all warnings in this manual and on the device.
1 Tum off power to the ViroSub before cleaning the cabinet. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols. Wipe the speaker set with a moist cloth.
2 Do not use the speaker set near water.
3 Make sure nothing is placed on the power lead. Locate the speaker set so as to prevent damage to the power lead.
4 Do not insert any object whatsoever into the slots of the speaker cabinets.
5 Do not attempt to repair the speaker set yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
6 Do not cover the ViroSub heat sink.
7 The ViroSub and Panels are designed as a system to be used together. Do not connect any other loudspeakers to the ViroSub.
8 Do not remove the covers. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
9 Use only a source of AC power that complies with local building and electrical codes and has both overload and ground-fault protection.
10 Do not remove any of the protective earth, or signal cable shield, connections. Such action is against recommended practise and will render any EMC or safety certification void.
INSTALLATION
The ViroSub should ideally be placed at a point along the same line as your ViroPanels.
However, the ViroSub does not have to be placed between two panels.
Connecting ViroPanels/ViroSpheres to the ViroSub
For flexibility of placement, the ViroSub is supplied with 10 meters of cable with a connector to the ViroSub in one end.
Connect the cable from:
• One panel speaker to the speaker out "Left" on the rear of the ViroSub.
- The second panel speaker to the speaker out "Right" on the rear of the ViroSub.
Connecting the ViroSub to an audio source
SINGLE SOURCE
To use a single source such as DVD, CD, Tape, Tuner or MP3 player, connect phono signal cable (not included) from the source component to the audio inputs on the rear of the ViroSub. Connect the:
- Left output of the source component to the left audio input of the ViroSub.
- Right output of the source component to the right audio input of the system.
If the source component has its own volume control, turn the volume control on the front of the ViroSub all the way up permanently and use the source component's volume control to select listening level. If the source component does not have its own volume control, use the volume control on the front of the ViroSub to select listening level.
PREAMP, INTEGRATED AMP OR RECEIVER WITH PREAMP OUTPUTS
Connect phono signal cable (not included) from the preamp outputs on the preamp/amp/receiver to the audio inputs on the rear of the ViroSub.
Connect the:
- Left output to the left audio input of the ViroSub.
• Right output to the right audio input of the ViroSub.
AC POWER
This section describes how to connect the ViroSub to AC power.
Set the voltage
Before making any connections, make sure that the ViroSub is set to your local AC Power voltage. The 100-120V/220-240V selector on the rear of the ViroSub is factory preset for AC 230 Volt. If your local AC power is AC 100-120 Volt, move the switch to the 100-120V position before turning it on.
Connect the power cord
Three AC power cords are included with the System. Use only the cord with a plug that fits your AC wall outlet. If none of the plugs fit your wall socket, you must purchase a standard AC power cord with the correct local plug.
1 Make all other connections first, before connecting the AC power cord.
2 Connect the AC power cord between the AC Input on the rear of the ViroSub and an active AC wall outlet.
The green-and-yellow wire of the mains cord must always be connected to an installation safety earth or ground. The earth is essential for personal safety as well as the correct operation of the system, and is internally connected to all exposed metal surfaces. Any rack framework into which this unit may be mounted is assumed to be connected to the same grounding circuit.
Apply power
Turn the ViroSub on using the On/Off power switch.
For normal use, the main AC power switch should be left on. Turn it off only when the system will be left unattended or unused for more than a few days.
OPERATION
The status indicator
The ViroSub status indicator (the little lamp on the front) will turn red for Standby. When a signal is present, the status indicator will turn green. If there is no signal for
Adjusting the bass level
To find the correct bass level setting, play a familiar piece of music with strong bass content at a typical listening level. Adjust the bass level on the front of the ViroSub until the sound from the ViroSub integrates well with the sound from the ViroPanels/ViroSpheres. For normal use, leave the bass level control in this position.
