Frequently Asked Questions - HXD3U50GL LG

Why is my external HDD not recognized after connecting?
Ensure the drive is initialized, partitioned, and formatted. On Windows, check Disk Management. Also confirm the USB cable is fully inserted and try a different USB port, preferably on the rear of the PC.
Can I copy files larger than 4GB to the external HDD on Mac?
If formatted as FAT32, individual files larger than 4GB cannot be copied. To support large files, reformat the drive as HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) using Disk Utility.
How do I safely remove the external HDD from my computer?
Click the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in the system tray, select your device, and click 'Stop' then 'OK'. Never unplug while the drive is in use to avoid data loss.
What should I do if I hear a ticking sound from the drive?
A ticking sound often indicates insufficient power. Connect both ends of the USB Y-cable to your PC, ideally to USB ports on the rear. If the problem persists, try a powered USB hub.
How do I format the external HDD to FAT32 on Windows?
Use the FNet FAT32 Format Utility included on the CD or downloaded from LG's website. This utility supports drives larger than 32GB. Note: formatting erases all data.
My external HDD is recognized on Windows 2000/XP but not on Windows 98SE/ME. Why?
Windows 98SE/ME only support FAT32, while Windows 2000/XP also support NTFS. Reformat the drive to FAT32 for compatibility across all systems.
How do I create or delete partitions on the external HDD?
On Windows 2000/XP, go to 'My Computer' > 'Manage' > 'Disk Management'. Right-click the drive to delete or create partitions. Warning: partitioning deletes all data.
Can I use this external HDD with both PC and Mac?
Yes, format the drive as FAT32 for compatibility. However, FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit. For Mac-only use, format as HFS+ for full functionality.
What is the warranty coverage for this product?
LG will replace the product if faulty due to manufacturing or material defects under normal use. Damage from misuse, unauthorized repair, or disassembly is not covered. Present the warranty card for service.
How do I use the PC Clone EX Lite backup software?
Insert the CD and install the software. Open 'File Backup', select the folders to back up, choose the external HDD as destination, and click 'OK'. You can also set a hotkey for quick backups.

Make sure that the mounted external HDD is initialized, partitioned, and formatted.

The partition of the external HDD is FAT 32. Set the partition to extended partition (HFS+) on Mac OS.

  1. During the installation of an external HDD on Windows ME, files such as usbntmap.sys are requested.

The files are in the base2.cab of the WIN9X folder on the Windows ME original CD. Specify this folder to complete installation.

  1. The formatted external HDD is recognized on Windows 2000 and XP but not on Windows 98SE and ME.

This is due to the difference in format type. Windows 98SE and ME support FAT 32 only, whereas Windows 2000 and XP support both FAT 32 and NTFS. Format as FAT 32 to enable recognition by all Windows systems.
