SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should be followed, including the following:

This wine cooler must be properly installed and located in accordance with these instructions before it is used.
- Do not allow children to climb, stand or hang on the shelves in the wine cooler. They could damage the wine cooler and seriously injure themselves.
■ Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance.

• Keep fingers out of the "pinch point" areas; clearances between the doors and between the doors and cabinet are necessarily small. Be careful closing doors when children are in the area.
  ■ Unplug the wine cooler before cleaning and making repairs.

NOTE: We strongly recommend that any servicing be performed by a qualified individual.

■ Turning the temperature control dial to the OFF position stops cooling but does not shut off power to the wine cooler.

PROPER DISPOSAL OF THE WINE COOLER

Child entrapment and suffocation are not problems of the past. Junked or abandoned refrigeration products are still dangerous...even if they will sit for “just a few days.” If you are getting rid of your old appliance, please follow the instructions below to help prevent accidents.

Before You Throw Away Your Old Refrigeration Product:

■ Take off the doors.
■ Leave the shelves in place so that children may not easily climb inside.

CFC Disposal

Old refrigeration products may have a cooling system that used CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons). CFCs are believed to harm stratospheric ozone.

If you are throwing away an old refrigeration product, make sure the CFC refrigerant is removed for proper disposal by a qualified servicer. If you intentionally release this CFC refrigerant you can be subject to fines and imprisonment under provisions of environmental legislation.

USE OF EXTENSION CORDS

Because of potential safety hazards under certain conditions, we strongly recommend against the use of an extension cord.

However, if you must use an extension cord, it is absolutely necessary that it be a UL-listed, 3-wire grounding type appliance extension cord having a grounding type plug and outlet and that the electrical rating of the cord be 15 amperes (minimum) and 120 volts.

HOW TO CONNECT ELECTRICITY

Do not, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord. For personal safety, this appliance must be properly grounded.

The power cord of this appliance is equipped with a 3-prong (grounding) plug which mates with a standard 3-prong (grounding) wall outlet to minimize the possibility of electric shock hazard from this appliance.

Have the wall outlet and circuit checked by a qualified electrician to make sure the outlet is properly grounded.

If you have only a standard 2-prong wall outlet, it is your personal responsibility and obligation to have it replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet.

The wine cooler should always be plugged into its own individual electrical outlet which has a voltage rating that matches the rating plate.

This provides the best performance and also prevents overloading house wiring circuits which could cause a fire hazard from overheated wires.

Never unplug your wine cooler by pulling on the power cord. Always grip plug firmly and pull straight out from the outlet.

Repair or replace immediately all power cords that have become frayed or otherwise damaged. Do not use a cord that shows cracks or abrasion damage along its length or at either end.

When moving the wine cooler away from the wall, be careful not to roll over or damage the power cord.

USE OF ADAPTER PLUGS

Because of potential safety hazards under certain conditions, we strongly recommend against the use of an adapter plug.

However, if you must use an adapter, where local codes permit, a temporary connection may be made to a properly grounded 2-prong wall outlet by use of a UI-listed adapter available at most local hardware stores.

The larger slot in the adapter must be aligned with the larger slot in the wall outlet to provide proper polarity in the connection of the power cord.

When disconnecting the power cord from the adapter, always hold the adapter in place with one hand while pulling the power cord plug with the other hand. If this is not done, the adapter ground terminal is very likely to break with repeated use.

If the adapter ground terminal breaks, DO NOT USE the wine cooler until a proper ground has been established.

Attaching the adapter ground terminal to a wall outlet cover screw does not ground the appliance unless the cover screw is metal, not insulated, and the wall outlet is grounded through the house wiring. You should have the circuit checked by a qualified electrician to make sure the outlet is properly grounded.

About the control.

The temperature control is located on the back of the wine cooler.

NORMAL MAX. OFF MIN.

For regular operation, the temperature control knob should be set to the NORMAL position.

MAX is the coldest setting.

MIN is the warmest setting.

Once the bottles are loaded, allow at least 48 hours before making any adjustments to the initial setting.

Control Settings

The temperature range of the wine cooler is from the mid-forties to the mid-sixties in degrees Fahrenheit.

As with any refrigeration product, there is a slight temperature variance at different locations within the cabinet.

The coolest shelves in the unit are the two middle shelves.

Position your wine inventory accordingly (i.e, white wines in the cooler zones and red in the warmer zones).

NOTE: Make sure that the wine bottles do not touch the back wall.

The bottles may collect condensation, which will drain into the bottom of the unit.

About the features.

Pull-Out Racks

The four racks can be pulled out 1/2 way to allow the easy addition or removal of wine bottles.

The top rack holds up to five wine bottles with the necks towards the back.

The center three racks hold up to five wine bottles with the necks towards the front.

Up to four regular wine bottles can be placed in the bottom of the unit. The bottom can also be used to store large or irregularly shaped bottles.

Automatic Humidity Control

The inside of the wine cooler automatically maintains the necessary level of humidity to protect wine corks from drying out. As a result, frost may form on the inner surfaces. See Care and Cleaning for instructions on removing excessive frost buildup.

Cleaning the Outside

IMPORTANT: Unplug the wine cooler before cleaning.

Keep the outside clean. The cabinet can be washed with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly with clear water. Never use abrasive scouring powders.

Use a glass cleaner or mild soap and water and a soft cloth to clean the glass door. Do not use any abrasive powders.

Do not wipe the wine cooler with a soiled dish cloth or wet towel. These may leave a residue that can erode the paint. Do not use scouring pads, powdered cleaners, bleach or cleaners containing bleach because these products can scratch and weaken the paint finish.

Protect the paint finish. The finish on the outside of the wine cooler is a high-quality, baked-on paint finish. With proper care, it will stay new-looking and rust-free for years. Apply a coat of kitchen/appliance wax when the wine cooler is new, and then at least twice a year.

Cleaning the Defrost Water Pan

IMPORTANT: Unplug the wine cooler before cleaning.

The pan should be cleaned out at least once a year, or whenever the wine cooler is defrosted.

Remove the pan by firmly pulling it straight out. When replacing the pan, make sure to position it under the drain tube.

Clean the pan using a clean cloth or sponge and a warm water and baking soda solution—about one tablespoon (15 ml) of baking soda to a quart (1 liter) of water. This both cleans and neutralizes odors. Rinse and wipe dry.

Care and cleaning.

Cleaning the Inside

IMPORTANT: Unplug the wine cooler before cleaning.

To clean the inner liner and racks, use a warm water and baking soda solution—about one tablespoon (15 ml) of baking soda to a quart (1 liter) of water. This both cleans and neutralizes odors. Rinse and wipe dry.

The vinyl door gasket may be cleaned with mild soap and water, a baking soda solution or a mild scouring powder. Rinse well.

Do not use detergents, scouring powders, spray cleaners or other harsh chemicals to clean the interior.

Defrosting

Defrost whenever frost on the inside surfaces of the storage area becomes 1/4" thick. Never use a heater of any kind, scraper or sharp instrument to remove frost as it may damage the wine cooler.

To defrost, set the temperature control dial at OFF position. Remove the contents and wipe inside surfaces and racks with a clean towel. If frost does not come off easily, allow the frost to melt somewhat and wipe off.

After defrosting, clean the defrost water pan; see Cleaning the Defrost Water Pan. Make sure inside surfaces are dry; then return the contents to the wine cooler and turn the temperature control to the desired setting.

Preparing to Move

Secure all loose items such as racks by taping them securely in place to prevent damage.

Be sure the wine cooler stays in an upright position during moving.

Cleaning the Condenser

IMPORTANT: Unplug the wine cooler before cleaning.

Sweep away or vacuum up dust.

For best results, use a brush specially designed for this purpose. It is available at most appliance stores.

Installing the Defrost Water Pan

The wine cooler comes with a defrost water pan that is shipped inside the unit. It is important to install the pan over the compressor as shown.

Slide the defrost water pan in so the two support pins are fully seated in the mounting holes.

Make sure the pan is positioned under the drain tube.

Read these instructions completely and carefully.

■ The wine cooler is intended for freestanding operation only. Do not enclose it or install it in a recessed area.
- Do not install the wine cooler where the temperature will go below 50°F (10°C) because it will not run often enough to maintain proper temperatures.
■ Install it on a level floor or counter strong enough to support it when fully loaded.
If it is placed on a countertop, the front surface of the door should be 3" (8 cm) or more back from the edge of the countertop or stand to avoid accidental tipping of the appliance during normal use.
- Allow at least 2" (6 cm) of space between the back of the wine cooler and the wall, to allow proper air circulation.
- Do not install where it will be subject to direct sunlight, heat or moisture.
