•Support for the Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 operating system.
- HP StorageWorks Initial Configuration Tasks improvements include support for SNMP configuration settings, alert configuration settings, and iLO configuration settings.
- Server Manager improvements include support for Web Remote Management (WebRM).
- The X3800 G2 Network Storage Gateway is based on the HP ProLiant DL380 G7 Server hardware platform.
- The X3800sb G2 Network Storage Gateway Blade is based on the HP ProLiant BL460c Server hardware platform.
Fixes
The following fixes were made in HP StorageWorks X3000 G2 Network Storage System v 2.00.0a:
- Windows Error Reporting indicated that an Emulex FC card driver was not found during storage system installation.
- HPSUM incorrectly reported that the StorageWorks Fibre Channel Array Notification Driver was not installed.
• A Smart Array Cache error was displayed during the system recovery process.
• The default Microsoft Windows Update settings resulted in a daily restart of the storage system.
•The Disk Management snap-in failed when multiple instances of the snap-in were run.
• A VDS Dynamic Provider error was displayed during system recovery.
•The storage system and Microsoft MMC quota plug-in failed when creating a new quota.
Workarounds
General
After the storage system is left idle for a long period of time, the user is not prompted when resuming the session.
Workaround: Modify the screen saver settings to require a password on resume.
- On the Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 desktop, right-click and select Screen Resolution.
- Click Appearance.
- Under Display, click Change screen saver.
- Check the On resume, display logon screen check box.
- In the Wait field, enter the number of minutes to wait before displaying the logon screen.
- Click OK.
Initial Configuration Tasks
On some storage system models (X1800 G2, X1800sb G2, X3800 G2, and X3800sb C Lights-Out Online Configuration Utility displays the error message Feature not supported when navigating to Settings > Configure iLO. The most commonly-changed settings such as enabling DHCP, changing the iLO DNS name, adding iLO users, or changing iLO user passwords, can still be con the HP Lights-Out Online Configuration Utility's User and Network menu items.
Workaround: The settings under the Settings menu item must be configured by using the iLO ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU). Press F8 when prompted at the console during system POST to open the RBSU. Global settings that are not supported in the online utility can be configured here.
System installation and recovery
This section describes issues related to the system installation and recovery process.
- When a system that has existing data volumes (non operating system volumes) is restored using the System Recovery DVD, the data volumes will not have drive letters assigned to by design. The volume labels are retained and can be used to identify the data Workaround: There is no workaround for this issue; however, drive letters can be < volumes using diskpart.exe or by using Disk Management. To open Disk Management, click Start > Run, enter diskmgmt.mscand then click OK. Right-click the disk and partition that you want to assign the drive letter to and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
- Command-line Tools and Internet Printing Client features are not installed by default with the operating system.
Workaround: Use Server Manager to manually install these features:
- In Server Manager, select Features and then click Add Features.
- Select Command-line Tools (located under Windows Server Backup features) and Internet Printing Client in the features list.
- Click Next and complete the Add Features Wizard installation process.
- After installing the storage system in Chinese or Japanese, some non-Unicode applications display question mark characters instead of the correct characters. When a storage system i either by booting a new storage system or by restoring the system with the System the Windows Welcome wizard offers a choice of languages. The second page of the Windows Welcome wizard allows selection of settings for Country and Region, Time and Currency, and Keyboard Layout. When the appropriate Chinese or Japanese settings are selected, it correctly reflected in the Region and Language Control Panel program; however, desp correct regional settings, some applications that do not support Unicode do not disp correctly. Workaround: Change the regional settings to another language and location, and the Chinese or Japanese. The following steps describe how to change to English settings back to the desired region and language settings.
- As a local administrator, open the Region and Language Control Panel program: Start > Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Region and Language.
- On the Format tab, select English (United States) from the list of languages and regions and then click Apply.
- On the Location tab, select United States for the current location and then click Apply.
- On the Keyboards and Languages tab, select English for the display language and then click OK. You will then be prompted to log off. Click Log off now.
- Log in as the local administrator and open the Region and Language program again.
- On the Administrative tab, click Change system locale and select English (United States) as the current system locale. You will be prompted to restart Windows. Click Resta
- When Windows restarts, log in as local administrator and open the Region and Language program again. Repeat steps 2 through 6, but this time select the appropriate Japanese setting. Log off and restart Windows when prompted.
- The time zone selected during the image process is not retained. The image process allows you to set the time zone; however, the time zone is always set to Pacific time when for the first time.
Workaround: Change the time zone after the system is fully imaged.
Installation instructions

Immediately after installing the storage system, confirm that your copy of the Microsoft Win Storage Server2008 R2 operating system has been activated.
IMPORTANT: Some storage systems may not automatically activate Windows during the system installation and system recovery process.
To check the activation status of Windows, open Control Panel (Start > Control Panel), click System and Security, and then click System. If your copy of Windows has been activated, the status under Windows activation will read Windows is activated. If your copy of Windows has not been activated, you must manually activate it within three days of the initial storage system installation.
To manually activate your copy of Windows:
- If needed, change your locale settings (Control Panel > Regional and Language Options).
- Record the product key located on the Certificate of Authenticity.
- In Control Panel, click System and Security, and then click System.
- Under Windows Activation, click Activate Windows Now.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. Be sure to choose the Type a different product key option when prompted for a product key.
Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 cannot be fully activated online. During the process, you will be provided with a telephone number to call to complete the process. have the product key available when calling this number.
