Frequently Asked Questions - SC0177 S.Coifman

How do I set the time and date on my S.Coifman SC0177 watch?
To set the time, pull the crown out to the second click position and rotate clockwise or counterclockwise. For date, pull to the first click and turn clockwise. If your watch has a screw-down crown, unscrew it counterclockwise first. Always push the crown back in after setting.
Is my S.Coifman SC0177 watch water-resistant?
The manual does not specify water resistance. However, it mentions that the crown must be fully pushed in (and screwed if applicable) to maintain resistance. Avoid submerging the watch unless you are certain of its rating.
What type of battery does the SC0177 use?
The SC0177 is a quartz watch typically powered by a silver oxide battery, such as the SR621SW or equivalent. Battery life is approximately 2-3 years.
How do I care for the Tritnite® luminous markers?
Tritnite® luminous markers require 4-5 hours of exposure to light to glow brightly in the dark. Regular exposure to light maintains their performance. Avoid covering the markers for extended periods.
What does the limited 3-year warranty cover?
The warranty covers manufacturing defects in the hands, dial, and movement for 3 years from the original purchase date. It does not cover crystal, crown, case, strap, battery, or damage from misuse. A proof of purchase is required.
How do I send my watch for service?
Include a copy of the purchase invoice, a description of the malfunction, your return address and contact info, and a $28.00 money order or check payable to International Watch Service Center. Ship to: IWSC, 9298 S 500 West, Sandy, UT 84070, USA. Insure the package.
Can I replace the battery myself?
The manual advises against unauthorized service, as opening the watch by a third party voids the warranty. For battery replacement, contact the S.Coifman International Watch Service Center to maintain warranty coverage.
What is a screw-down crown and how do I use it?
A screw-down crown helps prevent water ingress. To use, rotate the crown counterclockwise until it springs open, then pull to set. After setting, push the crown in and screw it clockwise tightly. Not doing so can void water resistance.
What does the subdial with a 24-hour indicator do?
The 24-hour subdial (also called GMT) indicates whether it is a.m. or p.m. and can be used as a second time zone. The hand makes one full rotation per day.
Can I wear my S.Coifman watch while swimming?
The manual does not provide a specific water resistance rating. It recommends keeping the crown closed/screwed. Without a rating, avoid swimming or showering with the watch to prevent damage.

The 3 Year S. Coifman Warranty.

Each genuine S. Coifman timepiece purchased from an authorized S. Coifman retailer is in its original and tested condition and should only be serviced through the S. Coifman Service Center during the warranty period in accordance with the terms of the standard 3-Year S. Coifman Warranty.

If S. Coifman timepieces are purchased from sources other than authorized retailers or are serviced or repaired by unqualified third parties, they may be subject to alterations from their original condition that are beyond the control of S. Coifman.

As S. Coifman cannot guarantee the quality standards of an altered timepiece, the above-mentioned standard 3-year warranty on S. Coifman items will be invalid. In such cases, the purchaser has to rely on the seller's warranty.

S. Coifman timepieces are designed, crafted and tested for superior quality with a long life expectancy. Should you discover that, despite our rigorous testing, your watch is not functioning properly during the warranty period or after, simply send it to our service center. Although our main concern lies in minimizing the time that a watch is in service, it is important for our clients to understand that every watch sent in for service is thoroughly inspected for faults in craftsmanship, material damage, movement-related irregularities, as well as other factors that could have an impact on the overall appearance and performance of the watch.

When all apparent problems are resolved, your watch will enter a two-week testing period, during which time the accuracy of the movement is observed and recorded day by day. Should your watch function properly at the conclusion of the testing period, it will be sent to you immediately. Should the technician designated to repair or overhaul your watch find it necessary to re-submit the watch into observation, your watch will be tested and observed for one more week.

Typically, the first testing phase is sufficient for most watches. However, some watches need additional attention. Should your watch be among those few, please understand that our only concern is with the performance of your watch once you receive it back. We appreciate both your understanding and patience in this case.

In case of a discovered defect which is covered by the limited warranty, we will repair or replace your timepiece upon an evaluation. This warranty does not cover regular wear and tear, such as scratches that may be caused by daily use on the metal band, case or crystal. The warranty will be voided if the watch has been mishandled or used under extraordinary conditions. Opening the watch by an unauthorized third party automatically voids this warranty. Under this warranty, your watch is also protected for the indicated water resistance. It is important to know that you must always keep the crowns and pushers closed and/or screwed in correctly before submerging the watch in water. Not doing so will void the warranty on the water resistance. These above stated terms and warranty apply only to new watches.

Important things to know.

Screw Down Crowns: Many S. Coifman watches are equipped with a screw down crown to help prevent water infiltration. This is most common on our Diver models. In order to adjust the date and / or time on such a watch, you must first unscrew the crown before you can gently pull it out to its first or second click stop position. To do this, simply rotate the crown counterclockwise until it springs open. When you have finished setting the watch, the crown must then be pushed in and screwed back in tightly. Not doing so will cancel the water resistance of the watch and will void all warranties from the manufacturer. Overall, this process should not require a lot of effort or force.

Tritnite® Luminous Markers: Tritnite® is an environmentally friendly luminous material used exclusively by S. Coifman. Tritnite® requires 4 - 5 hours of exposure to light for it to glow brightly in the dark. It will continue to perform with regular exposure to light.

Quartz, Automatic, and Manual Wind Watches.

A Quartz Watch is battery powered and does not require winding. Eventually the battery will need to be replaced.

An Automatic Watch is a mechanical watch that winds itself and does not require a battery. When worn daily, the movement of the wrist causes the mainspring to wind progressively, eliminating the need for additional winding. To start your automatic, you can hand wind it by rotating the crown clockwise a number of turns while in its normal operating position (screw down crowns will need to be unscrewed first), or by swinging it side to side for 30 seconds. We recommend housing an automatic in a watch winder box.

A Manual Wind Watch is a mechanical watch that does not require a battery, but can only be wound by hand. To wind it, turn the crown clockwise while it is in its normal operating position until you feel resistance. This type of watch should be wound daily.

What does this indicate?

Many S. Coifman watches are equipped with features that go beyond the telling of time and date. These functions are displayed on what are called subdials, indicators, counters, or zones. Your watch may have one or more of these. Knowing them will be useful when identifying which instructions pertain to your watch.

PLEASE NOTE: Because dial designs and shapes vary, not all subdials are perfectly round, or positioned in the same place.
