How do I charge the batteries for the first time?

Charge the batteries for about 7 hours before initial use. Place the handset on the base unit or charger.

What should I do if the handset display is blank?

Ensure the handset is turned on by pressing [OFF] for about 1 second. If still blank, check battery installation and charge.

How can I change the display language?

Press [MENU/OK], select 'SETTING HS', then 'DISPLAY OPT', then 'LANGUAGE', and choose your desired language.

Why is the handset not registering with the base unit?

The handset may be out of range or registration lost. Press and hold [LOCATOR] on the base unit for about 5 seconds, then follow the handset registration steps in the manual.

How do I set the date and time?

Press [MENU/OK], select 'SETTING BS', enter code [*], then enter the hour and minute (24-hour format), press [▶], then enter date (day, month, year).

Why is caller ID not working?

You must subscribe to a Caller ID service from your telephone provider. Also check connections and ensure DSL/ADSL filter is used if applicable.

How do I store a phonebook entry?

Press [PHONEBOOK] twice, enter number (up to 24 digits), press [MENU/OK], then enter name (up to 9 characters), and press [MENU/OK] again.

What does the flashing 'Y' icon mean?

The 'Y' icon flashing indicates the handset is out of range, the base unit power is off, or the handset is not registered. Move closer or check base unit connections.

Can I make calls during a power failure?

No, the unit requires AC power. It is recommended to keep a corded telephone connected to the same line as a backup.

How do I turn on the key lock?

Press and hold [MENU/OK] for about 2 seconds. To turn off, press and hold again. Incoming calls can still be answered.

Replacement battery information:

• Replace batteries only with a nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) type of battery. This model requires 2 AAA (R03) batteries for every handset. For best performance, we recommend using Panasonic rechargeable batteries (Model No. HHR-4MPT).
• Replacement batteries may have a different capacity from that of the supplied batteries.

Important information

General

• Use only the AC adaptor supplied with this product, noted on page 3.
• Do not connect the AC adaptor to any AC outlet other than a standard 220–240 V AC outlet.

● This product is unable to make calls when:

the portable handset battery(ies) need recharging or have failed. there is a power failure.
-the key lock feature is turned on.
-the call bar feature is turned on (only phone numbers stored in the unit as emergency numbers can be called).

- Do not open the base unit, charger, or handset other than to replace the battery(ies).

- Consult the manufacturer of any personal medical devices, such as pacemakers or hearing aids, to determine if they are adequately shielded from external RF (radio frequency) energy. (The product operates in the frequency range of 1.88 GHz to 1.90 GHz, and the RF transmission power is 250 mW (max.).) Do not use the product in health care facilities if any regulations posted in the area instruct you not to do so. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment that could be sensitive to external RF energy.

- Care should be taken that objects do not fall onto, and liquids are not spilled into, the product. Do not subject this product to excessive smoke, dust, mechanical vibration or shock.

- Only the supplied handset can be used with the base unit. No other handsets can be registered or used.

Introduction

Warning:

• This product should be kept away from heat sources such as radiators, cookers, etc. It should also not be placed in rooms where the temperature is less than 5 °C or greater than 40 °C.
• To prevent the risk of electrical shock, do not expose this product to rain or any other type of moisture.
• Unplug this product from power outlets if it emits smoke, an abnormal smell, or makes unusual noise. These conditions can cause fire or electric shock. Confirm that smoke has stopped emitting and contact an authorised service centre.
• Do not spill liquids (detergents, cleansers, etc.) onto the telephone line cord plug, or allow it to become wet at all. This may cause a fire. If the telephone line cord plug becomes wet, immediately pull it from the telephone wall jack, and do not use.
• Do not place or use this product near automatically controlled devices such as automatic doors and fire alarms. Radio waves emitted from this product may cause such devices to malfunction resulting in an accident
• Regularly remove any dust, etc. from the AC adaptor/power plug by pulling it from the power outlet, then wiping with a dry cloth. Accumulated dust may cause an insulation defect from moisture, etc. resulting in a fire.
• Do not damage the power cord/plug. This may cause a short circuit, electric shock, and/or fire.
• Do not touch the plug with wet hands.
• The AC adaptor is used as the main disconnect device. Ensure that the AC outlet is installed near the product and is easily accessible.

Battery caution

• We recommend using the battery(ies) noted on page 3. USE ONLY rechargeable Ni-MH batteries AAA (R03) size.
• Do not mix old and new batteries.

• Do not dispose of the battery(ies) in a fire, as they may explode. Check with local waste management codes for special disposal instructions.

• Do not open or mutilate the battery(ies). Released electrolyte from the battery(ies) is corrosive and may cause burns or injury to the eyes or skin. The electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed.

• Exercise care when handling the battery(ies). Do not allow conductive materials such as rings, bracelets or keys to touch the battery(ies), otherwise a short circuit may cause the battery(ies) and/or the conductive material to overheat and cause burns.

• Use only the supplied Panasonic AC adaptor PQLV207CE.
• Use only the supplied telephone line cord. Using another telephone line cord may not allow the unit to work properly.

- Use only the supplied Panasonic AC adaptor PQLV209CE.

Note:

● Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.
- Do not connect the AC adaptor to a ceiling-mounted AC outlet, as the weight of the adaptor may cause it to become disconnected.

During a power failure

The unit will not work during a power failure. We recommend connecting a corded-type telephone (without AC adaptor) to the same telephone line or to the same telephone line jack using a T-adaptor.

If you subscribe to a DSL/ADSL service

- Please attach a DSL/ADSL filter (contact your DSL/ADSL provider) to the telephone line between the base unit and the telephone line jack in the event of the following:

-noise is heard during conversations. -Caller ID features do not function properly.

Location

For maximum distance and noise-free operation, place your base unit:

- away from electrical appliances such as TVs, radios, personal computers, or other phones.

-in a convenient, high, and central location.

Battery installation

Important:

- Use the supplied rechargeable batteries (Part No. HHR-55AAB).

- When installing the batteries:

- Wipe the battery ends (, ) with a dry cloth. - Avoid touching the battery ends (, ) or the unit contacts. - Confirm correct polarities (, ) .

- If the handset does not automatically turn on after installing batteries, press [7①] for about 1 second, or place the handset on the base unit or charger.

Note:

Pause (for PBX/long distance service users)

A pause is sometimes required when making calls using a PBX or long distance service. Pressing [C●] 1 lime creates a 3 second pause. Press [C●] repeatedly to create longer pauses.

Key lock

The handset can be locked so that no calls or settings can be made. Incoming calls can be answered, but all other functions are disabled while key lock is on.

Recall/flash

[R] allows you to use the special features of your host PBX such as transferring an extension call, or accessing optional telephone services. Note:

Phonebook

For call waiting or Call Waiting Caller ID service users

To use call waiting, you must first subscribe to the call waiting service of your service provider/telephone company.

This feature allows you to receive calls while you are already talking on the phone. If you receive a call while on the phone, you will hear a call waiting tone.

If you subscribe to both Caller ID and Call Waiting with Caller ID services, the 2nd caller's information is displayed after you hear the call waiting tone on the handset.

1 Press [R] to answer the 2nd call.
2 To switch between calls, press [R].

- Please contact your service provider/telephone company for details and availability of this service in your area.

Temporary tone dialling (for rotary/pulse service users)

You can temporarily switch the dialling mode to tone when you need to access touch-tone services (for example, telephone banking services).

1 Make a call.
2 Press [★] when prompted to enter your code or PIN, then press the appropriate dial keys.
●The dialling mode will return to pulse when you hang up.

Adding entries to the phonebook

The phonebook allows you to make calls without having to dial manually. You can add 50 names and phone numbers.

Call bar

Call bar feature prohibits outside calls from being made. When call bar is turned on, only emergency calls can be made. To store emergency numbers, see page 15.

Important:

• When new calls have been received, the display shows the number of new calls.
  Example: 4 new calls have been received.

- Phone numbers of the last 50 different callers are logged in the caller list. Example:

DTMF mode setting

Certain service providers/telephone companies send caller information between the first and second rings. If the display does not show caller information after a few rings, follow these instructions to set DTMF mode.

Voice mail service

Voice mail is an automatic answering service offered by your service provider/telephone company. After you subscribe to this service, your service provider/telephone company's voice mail system answers calls for you when you are unavailable to answer the phone or when your line is busy. Messages are recorded by your service provider/telephone company, not your telephone.

When you have new messages, ☒ is displayed on the handset depending on your service provider/telephone company. Please contact your service provider/telephone company for details of this service.

Important:

- If ☒ still remains on the display even after you have listened to new messages, turn it off by pressing [◀] for 1 second.

Multi-unit Operation

Intercom

Available for:

KX-TG1312/KX-TG1313

Intercom calls can be made between handsets.

Example: When handset 1 calls handset 2

1 Handset 1: [INT] → Press [2] (desired handset number).
2 Handset 2: [\~]
3 When you finish talking, press [→0].

Transferring calls, conference calls

Available for:

KX-TG1312/KX-TG1313

Outside calls can be transferred between 2 handsets. 2 handsets can have a conference call with an outside party.

Example: When handset 1 transfers a call to handset 2

1 Handset 1:

During an outside call, press [INT]. → Press [2] (desired handset

number).

●The outside call is put on hold.

- If there is no answer, press [INT] to return to the outside call.

2 Handset 2:

Press [→] to answer the page.

●Handset 2 can talk with handset 1.

3 Handset 1:

To complete the call transfer, press [✗①].

To establish a conference call, press [3].

Transferring a call without speaking to the other handset user

1 During an outside call, press [INT]. → Enter the desired handset number.

- flashes to indicate the outside call is on hold.

●The outside call rings at the other handset.

- If the other handset user does not answer the call within 30 seconds, the call rings at your handset again.

Troubleshooting

If you still have difficulties after following the instructions in this section, disconnect the base unit's AC adaptor and turn off the handset, then reconnect the base unit's AC adaptor and turn on the handset.

Problem Cause/solution

Y is flashing.●The handset is too far from the base unit. Move closer.●The base unit's AC adaptor is not connected. Check the connections (page 5).●You are using the handset or base unit in an area with high electrical interference. Re-position the base unit and use the handset away from sources of interference.●The handset registration is cancelled. Register the handset to the base unit (page 21).

I cannot make or receive calls.	The base unit's AC adaptor or telephone line cord is not connected. Check the connections.The call bar feature is turned on. Noise is heard, sound cuts in and out.	You are using the handset or base unit in an area with high electrical interference. Liquid damage

Problem Cause/solution
Liquid or other form of moisture has entered the handset/base unit.	●Disconnect the AC adaptor and telephone line cord from the base unit.Remove the batteries from the handset and leave to dry for at least 3 days.After the handset/base unit are completely dry, reconnect the AC adaptor and telephone line cord. Insert the batteries and charge fully before use. If the unit does not work properly, contact your nearest Panasonic service centre.

Caution:

- To avoid permanent damage, do not use a microwave oven to speed up the drying process.
