Frequently Asked Questions - PBS28500 Profilo

How do I set up the scale for the first time?
Remove the scale from the box. Insert 2 x 1.5 V AAA batteries into the battery compartment on the underside, making sure the polarity is correct. Step onto the scale to turn it on. Press the weighing unit button on the underside to select kg, st, or lb. Then enter personal data (gender, body type, age, height) by pressing to enter settings, selecting a memory slot (1-12), and using ◀/▶ to choose options, confirming with .
How do I measure body composition (body fat, water, muscle, BMI, BMR)?
Stand barefoot on the scale with your feet positioned on the metal plates for BIA measurement. Wait for weight to stabilize. If user data is already stored, the scale will automatically recognize the user and display body fat, water, muscle mass, BMI, and BMR in sequence. For best accuracy, wipe your feet with a damp cloth before stepping on.
What do the error symbols on the display mean?
If the display shows 'Lo', replace the batteries. 'Err' indicates a measurement fault (e.g., body fat reading failure). 'O-Ld' means overload (exceeds 180 kg) – remove weight immediately. '0.0' flashing may indicate a zero-setting error. The scale will auto-off after a few seconds on battery warning.
Can I use this scale if I have a pacemaker?
People with pacemakers should not use this scale due to the bioelectrical impedance measurement. If in doubt, consult your doctor before use.
Can pregnant women use the body composition functions?
Pregnant women should use only the weight reading function. Do not rely on body fat, water, or other body composition measurements during pregnancy. Consult a physician if needed.
How do I change the weight unit from kg to lb or st?
Locate the weighing unit button on the underside of the scale (near the battery compartment). Press it repeatedly to cycle through kg, st:lb, and lb. The display will show the selected unit.
How do I clean and maintain the scale?
Clean the scale with a damp cloth. Do not submerge in water or use abrasive cleaners. Avoid getting moisture into the battery compartment. If the scale is not used for a long time, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
Why doesn't the scale turn on when I step on it?
First check if the batteries are inserted correctly with proper polarity. Replace old batteries with fresh 1.5 V AAA batteries. If the scale still doesn't turn on, ensure the battery contacts are clean and the compartment lid is closed properly. The scale requires a light step to activate.
How many users can store data in the scale?
The scale can store personal data for up to 12 different users. Each user has a memory slot (1-12). When stepping on, if the scale recognizes the user (by matching weight and profile), it will automatically load that user's data and display body composition results.
What is BIA technology and how does it work?
BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis) sends a very low electrical current through the body via the foot plates. It measures resistance to estimate body fat, muscle mass, and water content. For accurate results, ensure barefoot contact and slightly moist feet. The scale uses this data along with age, height, and gender to calculate BMI and BMR.

BMI

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a weight-to-height ratio commonly used to classify underweight, overweight and obesity in adults. This scale is capable of calculating your BMI. The BMI categories presented in the diagram and the table below are recognized by WHO (World Health Organization), and they can be used to interpret BMI values.

Profilo PBS28500 - BMI - 1

You can check your BMI category in the table below

< 18.5UnderweightModerate
18.6-24.9 Normal weight Low
25-29.9Overweight Moderate
30+ ObesityHigh

Profilo PBS28500 - BMI - 2

If the diagram/table shows that your weight does not fall within the normal weight, you should consult your doctor before taking any actions. BMI categories can only be applied to adults (over 19 years of age).

BMR

Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the estimated amount of energy measured in calories that is used by your body at rest to maintain normal functioning of the organism. This continuous work consumes 60-70% of calories, and includes heartbeat, breathing and body temperature maintenance. Numerous factors, including age, weight, height, sex, diet and lifestyle have an impact on the BMR index.
