Precautions
General
- Please ensure that the equipment is positioned in a well-ventilated area and ensure that there is at least 4" (10 cm) of free space along the sides, top and back of the equipment.

● Use the unit on a firm, level surface free from vibration.

- Do not place anything on top of the unit.
- Do not expose the unit to moisture, to temperatures higher than 140^ (60°C) or to extremely low temperatures.
- If your system does not work properly, disconnect the AC/DC adaptor from the AC outlet. Plug the AC/DC adaptor back in, and then turn on your system.
● In case of an electrical storm, unplug the unit for safety.

● Hold the AC/DC adaptor by the head when removing it from the AC outlet, as pulling the cord can damage internal wires.
● The AC/DC adaptor is used as a disconnect device and shall always remain readily operable.
- Do not remove the outer cover, as this may result in electric shock. Refer internal service to your local SHARP service facility.

Volume control
The sound level at a given volume setting depends on speaker efficiency, location and various other factors. It is advisable to avoid exposure to high volume levels, which occurs while turning the unit on with the volume control setting up high, or while continually listening at high volumes.

System connections
Make sure to unplug the AC/DC adaptor before making any connections.
Connecting iPod or iPhone to TV
Video files from iPod or iPhone can be viewed by connecting the system to TV/monitor.
If the TV/monitor has a video input, connect it to the VIDEO OUT jack at the back of the unit and set the TV Out on the iPod unit to "ON" position.

1 Press the FUNCTION button on the main unit or remote control to select the iPod function.
2 Enter the iPod or iPhone menu.
Press and hold DISP(TV OUT) button on the remote control or ALARM 1 (DISPLAY) button on the main unit until ON appear on the display.
3 Select the desired video to be played.
4 Press the ENTER button on the remote control to start playback.
Notes:
- To return to watch video on iPod or iPhone screen, return to the menu. Press and hold the DISP(TV OUT) on remote control or ALARM 1 (DISPLAY) on the main unit until "OFF" appear on the display.
- During iPod or iPhone video playback, press and hold the DISP(TV OUT) on the remote control or ALARM 1 (DISPLAY) on the main unit until "OFF" appear will not toggle video out display between iPod or iPhone and TV.
- Please make sure to set iPod unit to either NTSC or PAL to match your TV signal. Please visit Apple's home page for further information.
- Customer should also refer iPod and iPhone operation manual before making video out setting.
■ AC/DC adaptor connection
1 Plug the AC/DC adaptor cable into the DC IN jack on the unit.
2 Plug the AC/DC adaptor into an AC outlet.

● During unit operational with batteries, iPod or iPhone attached can be used for playback only.
CAUTION:

■ Install/Replace batteries
Use 6 "C" size batteries (UM-2/R14 or similar). Batteries are not included.
For Backup battery: Use 2 "AA" size batteries (UM/SUM-3, R6, HP-7 or similar). Batteries are not included.
1 Open the battery cover.
2 Insert the batteries according to the direction indicated in the battery compartment. When inserting or removing the batteries, push them towards the battery terminal.
3 Close the cover.

● The battery system is use to provide continuous alarm operation and clock setting in event of a power failure. Please make sure the AC/DC adaptor is connected, otherwise all setting may be lost during battery replacement.

- Installing the batteries incorrectly may cause the unit to malfunction.
- Insert the batteries according to the direction indicated in the battery compartment.
- Replace all old batteries with new ones at the same time.
- Do not mix old and new batteries.
● Batteries (battery pack or batteries installed) shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.

Before using remote control, please remove plastic shield at battery holder.

Notes concerning use:
- Replace the battery if the operating distance is reduced or if the operation becomes erratic. Purchase "CR 2025" 3 V, coin lithium battery.
- Periodically clean the transmitter on the remote control and the sensor on the unit with a soft cloth.
● Exposing the sensor on the unit to strong light may interfere with operation. Change the lighting or the direction of the unit if this occurs. - Keep the remote control away from moisture, heat, shock, and vibrations.
■ Test of the remote control
Check the remote control after checking all the connections (see pages 10 - 11).
Point the remote control directly at the remote sensor on the unit.

Press the ON/STAND-BY button to turn the power on. The first time power is supplied to the unit, the clock will be blinking on the display. Please set the time and date (refer page 15).

Note:
- Setting dimmer to display in the brightest mode during battery operation will affect battery life.
- During battery operations in standby mode, the brightness of display will automatically go to the lowest mode (dim OFF) after 5 seconds.
Volume auto set in
If you turn off and on the main unit with the volume set to 17 or higher, the volume starts at 16.
Volume control
Main unit operation:
Rotate the Volume knob anti-clockwise to decrease volume and clockwise to increase volume.
Remote control operation:
Press the VOLUME (+ or −) button to increase or decrease the volume. Volume indicator will be blinking when the volume reaches maximum or minimum level.

■ Muting
The volume will muted temporarily when pressing the MUTE button on the remote control. "L-00" will be blinking on the display. Press the MUTE button again to restore the volume.
Equalizer
Press the EQUALIZER button repeatedly until the desired sound mode appears.

Setting the time and date

1 In standby mode, press the CLOCK/MEMORY button for more than 2 seconds. The clock time display format will blinking. Press the (◀◀ or ▶◀) button to select 12-H or 24-H for clock time display format, then press CLOCK/MEMORY to confirm.

12-H → 24-H2 Press the ◀ or ▶ button to adjust the hour and then press the CLOCK/MEMORY button.

Press the (or) button once to advance the time by 1 hour. Hold it down to advance continuously. "AM" or "PM" indicator will interchange after each 12 hour cyclic.
3 Press the or button to adjust the minutes and then press the CLOCK/MEMORY button.

Press the (vor) button once to advance the time by 1 minute. Hold it down for about 5 seconds to change the time in 5-minutes interval.
4 Press the or button to adjust the day and then press the CLOCK/MEMORY button.

“.” will be blinking to indicate time and date setting is completed.
Note: During battery operations in standby mode, press the SNOOZE/ DIMMER button to display the clock for about 5 seconds.

Caution:
- Please update your iPod unit to the latest software version before using it. Please visit Apple's homepage to download the latest version for your iPod.
Notes:
- Once the iPod or iPhone is connected to the unit it will begin charging.
- If you have an iPod or iPhone that does not have an iPod 30 Pin connector, you can use an auxiliary cable to connect it to the AUDIO IN jack.
- The message “This accessory is not made to work with iPhone” or similar, may appear on the iPhone screen when: - battery is low.
- the iPhone is not properly docked (eg. slanting). If this occurs, remove and re-dock the iPhone.
● The iPod or iPhone will not be charged while the main unit uses batteries as power supply.

Note:
You can use an audio cable to connect your iPod or iPhone to the AUDIO IN socket if:
- Your iPod or iPhone adaptor does not fit into the dock on the main unit.
- You have an iPod or iPhone that does not have an iPod or iPhone adaptor.
- You have an iPod that does not have an iPod 30 pin connector.

■ To playback USB/SD Card
1 Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly on main unit to select USB or SD function. Connect the USB memory device or SD card that has MP3 format files on the unit. When the USB memory or SD card is connected to the main unit, playback will start at first track of first supported folder.
2 Press the FOLDER (vor) button to select desired playback folder.
3 Select desired file to be played back by pressing the ◄ button. Playback will start at desired file. Press DISPLAY button to display track number and folder number.
Note:
To pause playback:
Press the ▶ button.
Auto power off function:
In the stop mode of USB operation, the main unit enters the stand-by mode after 15 minute of inactivity.
■ To remove USB memory device
1 Press the FUNCTION button to change to other function.
2 Disconnect USB memory device from the USB terminal.

■ To remove SD card
1 Press the FUNCTION button to change to other function.
2 Disconnect SD card from the SD card slot.
Notes:
● SHARP will not be held liable for the loss of data whilst the USB memory device is connected to the audio system.
● Files compressed in MP3 format only can be played back when connected to the USB or SD card terminal.
- This USB memory's or SD card format supports FAT 16 or FAT 32.
● SHARP cannot guarantee that all USB memory devices will work on this audio system.
- USB cable is not recommended for use in this audio system to connect to USB memory device. Use of the USB cable will affect the performance of this audio system.
● This USB memory cannot be operated via USB hub.
● The USB terminal in this unit is not intended for a PC connection but is used for music streaming with a USB memory device.
● External HDD-storage cannot be played back via USB terminal.
- If the data inside the USB memory or SD card is large, it may take longer time for the data to be read.
● The display will show "no" when not supported device is plugin.

ON/ STAND-BY ALARM RESET TUNING SHORT FUNCTIONTuning

Main Unit
Manual tuning:
Rotate the TUNING (∨ or ∧) knob clockwise or counter clockwise to tune into the desired station.
Remote Control
Manual tuning:
Press the TUNING (∨ or ∧) button as many times as required to tune in to the desired station.
Auto tuning (remote control only):
When the TUNING (V or ∧) button is pressed for more than 0.5 seconds, scanning will start automatically and the tuner will stop at the first receivable broadcast station.
Notes:
- When radio interference occurs, auto scan tuning may stop automatically at that point.
● Auto scan tuning will skip weak signal stations.
● To stop the auto tuning, press the TUNING (√ or ∧) button again.
Receiving an FM stereo transmission:
- If the FM reception is weak, the reception will auto changes to monaural, and the sound becomes clearer.
■ Programming a station
You can store 20 FM stations in memory and recall them at the push of a button. (Preset tuning)
1 Perform steps 1 - 3 in "Tuning" on pages 20 - 21.
2 Press the CLOCK/MEMORY button for more than 2 seconds on the main unit or remote control to enter the preset tuning saving mode.

3 Within 7 seconds, press the ◀ or ▶ button on the main unit or ∨ or ∧ button on the remote control to select the preset channel number.
Store the stations in memory, in order, starting with preset channel 1.
4 Within 7 seconds, press the CLOCK/MEMORY button to store that station in memory.

5 Repeat steps 1 - 4 to set other stations, or to change a preset station.
When a new station is stored in memory, the station previously programmed for that preset channel number will be erased.

Note:
The batteries system protects the programmed stations should there be a power failure or the AC/DC adaptor becomes disconnected. If the backup batteries are drain off, the programmed stations will be erased.
■ To recall a programmed station
Press PRESET/TRACK (◀ or ▶ button on main unit repeatedly or PRESET/FOLDER (√ or ∧) on remote control repeatedly to select the desired programmed station.
Alarm and sleep operation
Alarm
The unit turns on and play desired source (iPod, iPhone or TUNER) or Buzzer sound for 1 hour alarm cycle.
Before setting the alarm:
1 Check that the clock is set to the correct time. (refer page 15) If it is not set, you cannot use the alarm function.
2 For iPod or iPhone playback: Insert iPod or iPhone to the unit. (refer page 17)
3 For TUNER: Set preset memory. (refer page 21)

Setting the alarms
In this example, the setting is for ALARM 1. The same method is used to set for ALARM 2.
1 In standby mode, press and hold the ALARM 1 button until the alarm time blinking.

2 Press the (◀◀ or ▶◀) button to adjust the hour and press the ALARM 1 button.

Press the (◀◀ or ▶◀) button once to advance the time by 1 hour. Hold it down to advance continuously. "AM" or "PM" indicator will interchange after each 12 hour cyclic.
3 Press the (◀◀ or ▶◀) button to adjust the minutes and then press the ALARM 1 button.

Press the (her) button once to advance the time by 1 minute. Hold it down to change the time in 5 minutes interval.
4 Press the (◀◀ or ▶◀) button to select the day for alarm and then press the ALARM 1 button.
Weekday : MON - FRI (alarm activate from Monday to Friday only)
Weekend : SAT - SUN (alarm activate from Saturday to Sunday only)
Everyday : MON - SUN (alarm activate daily)
5 Press the (◀◀ or ▶◀) button to select the wake up source and then press the ALARM 1 button.


Wake up source:
iPod BUZZER RADIO
Alarm icon "will light up to indicate alarm setting."
Note:
If wake up source is set to iPod, and iPod is not present, the alarm source will change to default Buzzer.
■ Activate and deactivate the alarm
1 Press ALARM 1 or ALARM 2 button once to deactivate current alarm times and wake up source.
2 Press ALARM 1 or ALARM 2 button again to activate the alarm function. When the alarm setting time is activated, alarm icon (or ) will appear on display.
3 When alarm has started, alarm icon (☐ or ☐) will blinking on the display.
Daily Alarm:
● During alarm function, press ALARM RESET button to stop alarm and it will come again on the next day.

■ Snooze function
Once alarm has started, pressing the SNOOZE/DIMMER button will stop alarm for 9 minutes.
Once the snooze time has expired, alarm will continue.
The snooze function can be operated during 1 hour alarm cycle.

■ Sleep operation
The unit can be turned off automatically.

1 While "SLEEP" is indicated, press the SLEEP button once to display "XXX".
"XXX" is sleep remaining time.
● The remaining sleep time is displayed for about 5 seconds.
- You can change the remaining sleep time while it is displayed by pressing the SLEEP button (step 2).
To cancel the sleep operation:
Press and hold the ON/STAND-BY button while "SLEEP" is indicated.
To cancel the sleep operation without setting the unit to the stand-by mode, proceed as follows.
1 While "SLEEP" is indicated, press the SLEEP button repeatedly to select "OFF".
■ To use alarm and sleep operation together Sleep and alarm:
For example, you the can fall asleep listening to the radio and wake up to listening to the iPod in the next morning.
1 Set the sleep time (steps 1 - 3, page 24).
2 While the sleep timer is set, set the alarm (steps 1 - 4, pages 22 - 23).
3 Activate the alarm (page 23).

NAP
The main unit will temporarily enters stand-by mode when pressing NAP button. After nap time, main unit will power on into last function used.
1 Playback the desired sound source.
2 Press the NAP button on the remote control repeatedly to select nap time.
Note:
Selecting "oFF" during NAP setting will activate the last function.

■ Listening to the audio/video sounds from portable audio player, computer etc.
1 Use the auxiliary cable to connect the portable audio player, computer etc. to the AUDIO IN jack. When using video equipment, connect the audio output to this unit and the video output to a television.
2 Press the ON/STAND-BY button to turn the power on.
3 Press the FUNCTION button on main unit or remote control to select Audio In function.
4 Play the connected equipment.
Note:
To prevent noise interference, place the unit away from the television and do not make any auxiliary playback, while listening to the iPod or iPhone.

Condensation
Sudden temperature changes, storage or operation in an extremely humid environment may cause condensation inside the cabinet or on the transmitter on the remote control.
Condensation can cause the unit to malfunction. If this happens, leave the power on until normal playback is possible (about 1 hour). Wipe off any condensation on the transmitter with a soft cloth before operating the unit.
■ If problem occurs
When this product is subject during operation to strong external interference (mechanical shock, excessive static electricity, abnormal supply voltage due to lightning, etc.) or if it is operated incorrectly, it may malfunction.
If such a problem occurs, do the following:
1 Set the unit to the stand-by mode and turn the power on again.
2 If the unit is not restored in the previous operation, unplug and plug in the unit, and then turn the power on.
Note:
If neither operation above restores the unit, remove the backup batteries.
■ Clearing all the memory (reset)
During standby mode, press and hold SNOOZE/DIMMER button for 5 seconds. Display will become blank for a while and main unit will reset.
Caution:
This operation will erase all data stored in memory including clock, alarm settings and tuner preset.
■ Before transporting the unit
Undock the iPod or iPhone and remove the USB/SD card from the unit. Then, set the unit to the power standby mode. Carrying the unit with iPod or iPhone left docked or USB/SD card unremoved might damage the systems.
Maintenance
■ Cleaning the unit
Periodically wipe the unit with a clean soft cloth.
Caution:
- Do not use chemicals for cleaning (gasoline, paint thinner, etc.). It may damage the unit finishing.
- Do not apply oil to the inside of the unit. It may cause malfunctions.
