What types of batteries can I charge with the BOSCH AL 1404?

The charger is designed for Bosch NiCd/NiMH batteries with APT connector. Compatible voltages are 7.2 V to 14.4 V. Do not charge other types of batteries, as this could cause a fire or electrocution.

How do I know when charging is complete?

The charger does not stop automatically. The LED indicator lights up during charging. When the battery feels hot to the touch, it indicates it is fully charged. Then unplug the charger and remove the battery.

Can I use the charger outdoors?

Yes, but only with a residual current device. Do not expose it to rain or moisture. Water ingress increases the risk of electric shock.

What should I do if the charge indicator does not light up?

Check that the mains plug is correctly connected and that the battery is properly inserted into the compartment. If the problem persists, test the electrical outlet or have the charger checked by a Bosch after-sales service.

How long does it take to charge a 2.0 Ah battery?

Charging time is approximately 5 hours for a 2.0 Ah battery. For a 1.2 Ah battery, allow 3 hours, and for 1.5 Ah, 4 hours.

Does the charger heat up normally?

Yes, heating is normal, especially during successive charging cycles. This does not indicate a defect. However, make sure not to use it on a flammable surface such as paper or textile.

How to clean the charger?

Keep the charger clean by wiping it with a dry cloth. Do not use water or cleaning products. Soiling can cause a risk of electric shock.

Can I charge new batteries?

Yes, a new battery or one that has been unused for a long time reaches its full power after approximately 5 charge and discharge cycles. Leave it in the charger until it becomes hot.

Where can I find spare parts for the AL 1404?

What to do if the battery life decreases?

Connect battery chargers that are used in the open via a ground fault circuit breaker.
- Keep the battery charger away from rain or moisture. Penetration of water in the battery charger increases the risk of an electric shock.
- Do not charge other batteries. The battery charger is suitable only for charging Bosch NiCd/NiMH batteries with the voltages listed in the technical data. Otherwise there is danger of fire and explosion.
- Keep the battery charger clean. Contamination can lead to danger of an electric shock.
Before each use, check the battery charger, cable and plug. If damage is detected, do not use the battery charger. Never open the battery charger yourself. Have repairs performed only by a qualified technician and only using original spare parts. Damaged battery chargers, cables and plugs increase the risk of an electric shock.

Do not operate the battery charger on easily inflammable surfaces (e.g., paper, textiles, etc.) or surroundings. The heating of the battery charger during the charging process can pose a fire hazard.

Operation

Starting Operation

Observe the mains voltage! The voltage of the power supply must correspond with the data given on the nameplate of the battery charger. Battery chargers marked with 230V can also be operated with 220V .

Charging Procedure

The charging procedure starts as soon as the mains plug of the battery charger is plugged into the socket outlet and the battery 1 is inserted into the charging compartment 2.

The battery charge indicator 3 is not a charge-control indicator. The lit indicator signalises the flow of charging current.

The charging procedure is not ended automatically. Therefore, disconnect the battery charger from the mains supply after the battery has been charged and remove the battery. A temperature increase of the battery indicates that the battery is fully charged.

Operating Instructions

With continuous or several repetitive charging cycles without interruption, the charger can warm up. This is not meaningful and does not indicate a technical defect of the battery charger.

A battery that is new or that has not been used for a longer period will not achieve its full capacity until after approx. 5 charging and discharging cycles. Leave such a battery in the battery charger until it has warmed up considerably.

A significantly reduced working period after charging indicates that the battery is used and must be replaced.
