Frequently Asked Questions - Spatula Smart M175W BLACK & DECKER

How does the Power Boost feature work?
Press the Power Boost Button at any speed setting to instantly increase mixing speed to maximum power. Release to return to the previous speed. Ideal for tough tasks like cookie dough.
How do I insert and remove the beaters or whisks?
Ensure the mixer is unplugged and the speed control is OFF. Insert the beater/whisk stem into the opening and rotate slightly until it locks. To remove, push the Beater Eject Lever upward with your index finger and pull the attachment out.
How do I use the Spatula Attachment?
Attach after inserting beaters: weave the spatula under the left beater shaft and over the right, with the word 'Front' facing out. Snap onto the beaters. Use for thin to medium batters; do not use with whisks or for whipping cream/egg whites.
Can I wash the attachments in the dishwasher?
Yes, the beaters, whisks (model M175W only), and spatula attachment are dishwasher safe. For best results, place them on the top rack. Dry thoroughly before storing.
What are the speed settings and when should I use them?
The mixer has 5 speeds: 1 (Blend) for combining liquids, 2 (Stir) for sauces/puddings, 3 (Mix) for batters, 4 (Beat) for creaming/cookie dough, 5 (Whip) for fluffy mixtures. Use Power Boost at any speed for maximum power.
Why does the Spatula Attachment keep coming off?
If the attachment detaches during use, turn off the mixer before reattaching. Ensure it is snapped securely onto both beater shafts. Also, avoid using it with thick cookie dough or when whipping, as it may not stay on.
How do I clean the mixer body?
Unplug the mixer. Wipe the body and cord with a damp cloth. For stubborn spots, use a mild non-abrasive cleaner. Do not immerse in water or use abrasive cleaners.
What is the warranty and how do I get service?
The mixer has a 2-year warranty from the date of purchase. For service, call 1-800-231-9786 or visit a Black & Decker authorized service center. The manual lists many locations nationwide.
Can I use the Spatula Attachment with the whisks?
No, the spatula attachment is not compatible with the whisks. Use it only with the standard beaters for thin to medium mixtures.
How do I store the mixer and attachments?
Coil the cord loosely and secure with a twist tie; do not wrap the cord around the mixer. Store beaters, whisks, and spatula attachment in a drawer or original packaging to prevent damage.

Mixing Tips

HOW TO BEAT EGG WHITES

  • Beaters/Whisks and bowl must be clean.
  • Be sure there is no egg yolk in the egg whites.
  • For maximum volume, egg whites should be at room temperature.

  • Beat at the highest speed (Whip #5) until egg whites are the desired consistency.

  • Beating time varies with the freshness of eggs.

NOTE: For best results when beating egg whites, do not use an aluminum or plastic bowl. Use a stainless steel, copper, or glass bowl.

HOW TO WHIP CREAM

  • Chill the cream, Beaters, and bowl.
  • Start with the lowest setting (to minimize splatter) as the cream begins to thicken, gradually increase to WHIP (Setting #5).
  • Whipping time varies with fat content, age, and temperature of cream.

NOTE: The Spatula Attachment is NOT recommended for use when whipping cream as volume may be reduced.
