How to use the pastry rack?

Lower the lever on the left side of the toaster to activate the rack. Place the pastry (brioche, croissant, etc.) on it. Set the browning level with the selector, then lower the bread lever to start the cycle.

How to clean the BRANDT TO-1409V toaster?

Unplug the appliance and let it cool down. Clean the exterior with a damp cloth. For crumbs, remove the crumb tray, wash it with soapy water, and dry it before putting it back. Never immerse the appliance in water.

What to do if a slice of bread gets stuck in the toaster?

Automatic shut-off cuts the power. Unplug the appliance and let it cool completely. Raise and lower the lever several times to try to bring the bread up. Never use metal objects.

How to use the defrost function?

Place the frozen bread in the slots. Lower the lever until it locks, then press the defrost button (⚙️). The indicator light turns on. The toaster automatically adjusts the toasting time.

How to adjust the browning level?

Turn the browning level selector from 1 to 5. The higher the number, the more toasted the bread. Positions 1-2 are light, 3-4 medium, 5 dark. Adjust according to the type and thickness of the bread.

Can I toast buttered or oiled bread?

No, do not butter or oil the bread before toasting. This could damage the appliance and cause a fire. The bread should be dry.

What is the capacity of the TO-1409V toaster?

It has two slots that can accommodate two standard slices of bread. The self-adjusting guides adapt to the thickness of the slices.

How to use the reheat function?

Place the cooled toast in the slots, lower the lever, then press the reheat button (!!!). The indicator lights up. This warms without browning further.

A. Safety recommendations

• This appliance is for household use only. Do not use this appliance for anything other than intended use.
• To protect against electrical hazard do not immerse any part of the appliance or cord in water or any other liquid.
  • Always unplug from the plug socket when not in use and before cleaning.
• Do not operate the appliance if it damaged, after an appliance malfunctions or it has been damaged in any manner, return to the customer service department to repair, because special purpose tools are required.
• In the interest of safety, regular periodic close checks should be carried out on the supply cord to ensure no damage is evident. Should there be any signs that the cord is damaged in the slightest degree, the entire appliance should be returned to the customer service department.
• Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter or touch hot surfaces. Allow unit to cool before wrapping cord around base for storage.
• Do not leave the appliance exposed to the elements (rain, sun, ice, etc.).

• Do not put excessively large pieces of food or items wrapped in aluminium foil in the slots.
• Do not use this appliance with any foodstuff product containing sugar content or with products containing jam or preserves.

B. Preparing for use

• Always use the appliance on a dry, level surface.
- Do not place this appliance on or near a hot gas or electric burner, in or where it could touch a heated oven, or a microwave oven.
- Before using the toaster, check that there are no objects in the slots
- Before using the toaster for the first time, switch it on two or three times without any bread in the slots, as described below, setting the browning selector to its highest position, in order to eliminate any residual manufacturing oil.

C. Types of bread

Sliced bread is the most suitable for use in this toaster. If you wish to use another type of bread, please bear in mind the following advice:

• Cut the bread into regular-shaped slices of even thickness.
• Do not toast different types of bread or slices of different thicknesses at the same time.
• Mixed cereal bread usually takes longer to toast than normal bread.
• Do not spread butter, oil or similar on the bread before toasting.

D. Selecting the level of browning

The browning level can be set from 1 to 5. The higher the number, the browner the toast will be.

• Positions 1 and 2 are for browning the toast the very lightly.
• Positions 3 and 4 are for medium browning.

• Position 5 is for dark browning.
- When choosing the browning level, remember that dry bread and thin slices toast quicker than fresh bread and thicker slices. So the browning selection will depend on the type of bread, the quality of the bread and the thickness of the slices.
- The browning level must be selected before switching the toaster on.

3/ USING YOUR APPLIANCE

A. Toasting function

• Put the slices of bread, muffins, or bagels in the slots.
• Select the level of browning using the browning dial.

When using the toaster for the first time we suggest you toast on number 4. Varying types of bread and personal preference may require a different browning setting.

High lift: to remove smaller items such as crumpets and muffins, lift carriage control lever approximately 20mm above the starting position.

• Plug the toaster in.
• Press the toast lever down until it is engaged at the bottom. The light button will come on and the self-adjusting guides will adjust to the slices of bread automatically. The toasting cycle will then begin.
• When the toasting cycle comes to an end, the bread will automatically pop up and the toaster will switch off. If you wish to toast more bread, wait 1 or 2 minutes before using the toaster again.
• If you wish to remove the slices of bread before the end of the toasting cycle, press the button and the bread will automatically pop up and the toaster will switch off.
• When you have finished using the toaster, unplug it and wait for it to cool down before putting it away.

If a slice of bread becomes stuck in the toaster, the automatic switch off function will automatically cut off the current supply. Unplug the appliance and wait for it to cool down completely. Raise and lower the toast lever several times to try and get the stuck slice of bread out.

Never interrupt the toasting process by raising the toast lever, always press the button.

B. Reheat function

This function is for heating up toast which has gone cold, without toasting it any more. Press the toast lever down until it is engaged and press the 🎨 button. The light will come on.

C. Defrost function

This function is for toasting frozen bread.

Press the toast lever down until it is engaged and then press the ✿ button. The light will come on.

D. Bread roll rack

Press the bread roll rack lever down and put the bread rolls on it. Adjust the browning level using the dial and press the toast lever down until it is engaged.

4/ CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

A. Cleaning the toaster

Before cleaning the toaster, unplug it and wait for it to cool down.

Clean the outside of the toaster with a damp cloth.

Do not use solvents or abrasive products to clean the toaster.

To remove any crumbs pull out the crumb tray. Clean the tray with soapy water and dry it carefully before putting it back into its slot.

Do not submerge the toaster in water or any other liquid or place it under the tap.

The crumb tray should be cleaned regularly. Do not allow breadcrumbs to accumulate in the bottom of the toaster.
