Frequently Asked Questions - SMS-45 Senal

How do I install the battery in the SMS-45?
Unscrew the base of the microphone, insert a new LR44 battery in the orientation shown on the housing, and screw the base back on. Make sure the microphone is turned off before installation.
Can I use the SMS-45 without a battery?
Yes, if your camera or recorder provides plug-in power (2-10 V DC) from the mic input, the microphone can operate without a battery. Otherwise, use a fresh LR44 battery.
How do I mount the microphone on a camera?
Loosen the locking wheel, slide the shoe mount adapter into the camera's shoe, tighten the wheel, then insert the microphone into the holder with the power switch accessible.
What does the high-pass filter (L-CUT) do?
The high-pass filter attenuates frequencies below 80 Hz, reducing low-frequency noise such as air conditioner rumble, fans, or handling noise. Slide the switch to L-CUT to enable it, or FLAT for full range.
Why is no sound recorded?
Ensure a fresh battery is installed correctly, the microphone switch is set to FLAT or L-CUT, and the 3.5 mm plug is fully inserted into the camera/recorder's audio input. Also check that your device's audio input is enabled.
How do I reduce distortion in recordings?
Make sure the microphone cable is fully plugged in. If the audio level is too high, decrease the mic gain on your camera or recorder. Position the microphone appropriately to avoid overloading.
How can I improve low recording levels?
Increase the mic gain control on your camera or recorder. Ensure the microphone is pointed correctly at the sound source and that the battery is fresh. Check that the high-pass filter is not engaged unnecessarily.
What should I do if there is too much background rumble?
Slide the microphone switch to the L-CUT position to enable the high-pass filter. Also turn off or move away from noise sources like air conditioners, fans, or blowers.
Can I use the SMS-45 on a boom pole?
Yes, the microphone holder has a 5/8" threaded socket. Screw the boom pole's threaded post into the socket until secure, then insert the microphone into the holder.
How do I clean and maintain the SMS-45?
Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the microphone. Avoid water, solvents, and flammable substances. Remove the battery if storing for long periods. For repairs, contact Senal support or refer to the 10-year warranty.
