What is the Luxul 10G-RJ45 SFP+ module used for?

The 10G-RJ45 SFP+ module provides a 10 Gigabit Ethernet connection over Cat.6/7 UTP/STP cabling. It is designed for use with Luxul switches that have SFP+ ports, allowing interconnection of switches or connection to networked devices.

What cable type is required?

The module requires Cat.6 or Cat.7 UTP/STP copper cable with an RJ-45 connector.

Is the module hot swappable?

Yes, the 10G-RJ45 SFP+ module is hot swappable, meaning it can be inserted or removed without powering off the switch.

Do I need the same module on both ends of the connection?

For the 10G-RJ45 module, the same model should be used on both ends to ensure compatibility. The exception is the 10G-SM-SX-LC which comes as a matched pair.

How do I install the module?

To install, grasp the module by its sides, gently insert it into the SFP+ port until it clicks into place. The module is keyed to prevent incorrect insertion. Then remove the protective cover from the RJ-45 connector.

What is the maximum distance?

With Cat.6a cable, the maximum distance is approximately 30 meters. For Cat.6 or Cat.7, distances may vary; refer to cable specifications.

Can I use this module with any switch?

The module is optimized for Luxul switches with SFP+ ports. It may work with other switches, but compatibility is not guaranteed.

Are there any special handling requirements?

Yes, always use an ESD wrist strap when handling. Grasp the module by the sides, not the cable. Avoid touching the connector pins. For fiber modules, do not bend or twist the cable.

How do I remove the module?

To remove, pull the locking tab or gently pull the module straight out. Do not pull on the cable.

WHAT THIS PRODUCT DOES:

These SFP Modules are designed for use with Luxul Ethernet switches that have a corresponding SFP or SFP+ port. The modules can be used to interconnect Luxul switches or provide an additional port for connectivity to a networked device (computer, etc.). The modules allow for connectivity over various media, bandwidths, and distances: UTP copper or fiber optic cabling, short or long distances, 1 or 10 Gigabit.

WARNING!: Grasp module by the sides to install or remove from SFP ports. Do not use the cable.

WARNING!: Pulling, bending, kinking, or twisting fiber optic cable will cause damage to the cable.

WARNING!: Put on an electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap and attach the clip end to a metal surface (such as an equipment rack) to act as ground during installation.

INSTALLATION

Remove the SFP Module from its protective packaging

Gently insert the SFP Module into the SFP port of the Luxul switch until it clicks into place. The SFP Modules are keyed to prevent incorrect insertion. A tab on the bottom of the SFP Module locks it to the front panel of the switch

Remove the protective covering from the port connectors of the SFP Module and store the covering for future use

The SFP Module is now ready to receive the compatible cable

NOTE: SFP Modules are hot swappable.

NOTE:

When connecting to devices that will require a SFP Module, the same module must be used on both sides of the connection (EX. a 1G-RJ45 SFP Module on one side of the connection requires that a 1G-RJ45 is used on the other side of the connection). The exception is the 10G-SM-SX-LC, which comes as a pair of compatible modules—one for each side of the connection.
