Frequently Asked Questions - HYCH405 HYUNDAI

How do I charge a battery with the HYCH405?
Connect the red clamp to the positive terminal and black clamp to negative. Plug into mains. The charger automatically detects the battery voltage and starts charging. The LED indicator will show charging status.
Can this charger handle a completely dead battery?
Yes, the HYCH405 can charge batteries from 2V up, but if the battery voltage is below 2V, the charger may not detect it. Try a known good battery to confirm.
What types of batteries are compatible?
It is designed for 12V and 6V lead-acid batteries including flooded, AGM, and gel types. Do not use for lithium-ion or NiMH batteries.
How do I know when the battery is fully charged?
The fully charged LED will turn solid green (or similar) and the charger switches to maintenance/trickle mode. You can leave it connected indefinitely.
Is it safe to leave the charger connected overnight?
Yes, once fully charged, the charger enters maintenance mode to keep the battery topped up without overcharging. It is safe for long-term connection.
What does the error LED indicate?
The error LED may indicate reverse polarity, short circuit, or a battery with extreme low voltage. Check connections and battery condition.
Can I charge a battery while it is still in the vehicle?
Yes, but ensure the vehicle ignition is off and the battery terminals are accessible. Connect directly to the battery, not to the vehicle chassis to avoid grounding issues.
What is the maximum battery capacity this charger can handle?
The 4A output is suitable for batteries from about 20Ah to 120Ah. For larger batteries, charging may take more time.
How do I clean and maintain the charger?
Unplug the charger and wipe with a dry cloth. Ensure the clamps are clean and free of corrosion. Store in a dry, cool place.
Where can I find spare clamps or fuses?
Spare parts are available from Hyundai service centers or authorized dealers. The internal fuse is a standard 5A glass fuse.

▲Electrical Safety

HYUNDAI HYCH405 - ▲Electrical Safety - 1

DANGER!

ELECTRICITY CAN KILL - NEVER WORK ON LIVE/ENERGISED EQUIPMENT.

  • Prior to carrying out any maintenance work you MUST identify electrical isolation methods and isolate all electrical supplies.
  • Prior to use and with all electrical supplies isolated, you MUST check all electrical cables, plugs and connectors for the following;
  • Are intact and have no signs of damage, to include but not limited to bare wires, chaffing, cuts and loose wiring.
  • If there are any signs of damage, the damaged item MUST be taken out of service until the damage has been repaired by an electrically competent person.
  • All trailing cables should be routed so as not to cause any kind of trip hazard.
  • NEVER work on or near electricity with wet hands, wet clothing and wet gloves.
  • Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
  • When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
  • If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
