Frequently Asked Questions - ST17010 SWAN

How do I adjust the browning level on my Swan ST17010 toaster?
Turn the browning control dial to your desired setting (1-7). Lower settings produce lighter toast, higher settings for darker toast.
Can I use the toaster to reheat already toasted bread?
Yes, press the Reheat button after inserting the bread. The toaster will warm it without further browning.
What does the Defrost function do?
The Defrost function extends the toasting time to safely thaw and toast frozen bread. Insert frozen slices, press Defrost, then lower the lever.
How do I clean the crumb tray?
Unplug the toaster and let it cool. Slide out the crumb tray from the bottom, empty crumbs, wipe with a damp cloth, and dry thoroughly before reinserting.
Why does the toaster automatically shut off?
The toaster has an auto shut-off feature to prevent overheating. If the lever does not stay down, ensure the bread is properly inserted and the slots are clear.
Can I toast bagels or thick bread slices?
Yes, the toaster has self-centering racks that adjust to hold various bread thicknesses. For bagels, use the bagel setting if available (not specified for this model).
Is the exterior of the toaster hot during use?
The toaster features a cool-touch exterior, but the top and slots get hot. Always handle with care and avoid touching hot surfaces.
How do I store the power cord?
Underneath the toaster, there is a cord storage facility. Wind the cord around the feet or into the compartment as guided.
What should I do if the toaster stops working?
Check the power outlet and plug. If the toaster still does not work, contact Swan customer service. Do not attempt to repair yourself; the appliance has no user-serviceable parts.

HOW TO USE

Before first use

Unpack the toaster and remove all packaging materials etc

Place the toaster on a suitable, level surface. Set the browning dial to 3 or 4. Note: The 4 slice version has two independent browning controls.

Place one or two slices of bread into the toaster slots (1 to 4 in the 4 slice version)

Connect the product to the mains supply and press down the carriage lever. NOTE: The carriage lever will only stay down if the product is connected to the mains supply. You can press the cancel button at any time to cancel the toasting process. The toast will pop up when it is ready

THINGS TO NOTE:

On first use, you may notice a slight odour. This is caused by the evaporation of light oils used in manufacture. This only occurs on the first use and does not affect the taste of your toast.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

The Defrost bread setting is perfect for defrosting and toasting frozen bread. To use this function, press the carriage lever down then press the Frozen Bread button.

The Reheat setting is good for reheating toast that may have gone cold. Press the carriage lever down then press the Reheat button

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

This product requires very little maintenance.

The toaster is equipped with a crumb tray which slides out from the bottom of the toaster.

This should be removed and the crumbs discarded after each use.

Excessive build up of crumbs can cause an unpleasant odour and – in extreme cases – pose a fire hazard.

For cleaning external surfaces, a soft cloth moistened with a mild detergent solution is all that is required.

DO NOT USE ABRASIVE OR STRONG CHEMICAL CLEANERS

DO NOT IMMERSE ANY PART OF THE PRODUCT IN WATER

ALWAYS ENSURE THE PRODUCT IS UNPLUGGED FROM THE MAINS SUPPLY AND COMPLETELY COOL BEFORE CLEANING.

Did you know...

The "8-30" toaster was one of the most efficient at the time. At just over £1 it was also one of the cheapest. This was a two slice model in chrome plated steel. Even back in 1939 Swan was at the forefront of product innovation. This toaster was one of the first to have a special plate on top for warming buns/muffins etc.
