Frequently Asked Questions - SC4020 DELL

How do I reset the SC4020 storage array to factory defaults?
Use the Dell Storage Manager GUI. Go to the system tab, select the array, and choose 'Restore Factory Defaults'. Confirm when prompted. This will erase all configuration and data.
Can I mix SAS and SATA drives in the same enclosure?
Yes, the SC4020 supports mixed drive types. However, each virtual disk (volume) must use the same drive type. You cannot combine SAS and SATA in a single RAID group.
What is the maximum number of drives supported?
The base SC4020 supports 12 internal drives. With optional expansion enclosures (like the SC420), you can scale up to 120 drives per system.
How do I replace a failed power supply?
The power supplies are hot-swappable. Identify the faulty PSU (LED amber), unlock the retention latch, pull out the unit, slide in a new one, and lock it. No tools required.
What software is needed to manage this array?
Use Dell Storage Manager (DSM), a unified management application. It provides web-based GUI, CLI, and REST API for configuration, monitoring, and alerts.
Can I use third-party drives in the SC4020?
Dell recommends using Dell Enterprise drives for compatibility and support. Third-party drives may work but are not tested. Using unsupported drives may void warranty.
How do I access the web management interface?
Ensure management port is connected to your network. The default IP is DHCP. Use the IP shown on the front LCD panel or use Dell Storage Manager Discovery tool. Open a browser to 'https://'.
What RAID levels are supported?
The SC4020 supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60. Virtual disks (volumes) can be assigned different RAID levels based on performance and redundancy needs.
How do I update the firmware?
Download the latest firmware package from Dell Support. In Dell Storage Manager, navigate to the system, select 'Update Firmware', and upload the file. The update process may reboot controllers.
What is the power consumption of the SC4020?
Typical power consumption ranges from 150W (idle, no disks) to 450W (fully loaded with active I/O). Actual consumption depends on drive count and activity.

  6. Avoid picking up hard, sharp objects with the vacuum cleaner as they may damage the cleaner parts. Do not stand on the hose assembly. Do not put a weight on the hose. Do not block the suction or the exhaustion part.

  7. Switch the vacuum cleaner off at the machine before unplugging from the electrical outlet. Do not pull on the cord to disconnect the plug from the electrical outlet. Ensure that it is disconnected before attending to the filter.

6 CYCLONIC FILTER(ONLY CYCLONIC FILTER TYPES)

You can use a dust bag in your cleaner for a long time thanks to the Cyclonic Filter system and it maintain the maximum cleaning efficiency.

The larger particle of dust filtered from Cyclonic Filter remain in Dust Barrel when suctioned air and dust revolves in the Cyclonic Filter. So the dust bag contains only smaller ones.

When the Dust Barrel is filled with dust up to the indicating line, it needs disposing and cleaning.

Dust Barrel can be cleaned in water.

  1. Turn the Dust Barrel to the left and pull it.
  2. Disconnect the Cyclonic Filter from extension wand and handle.

  3. Remove thread and hair tangled around the net.

  4. After cleaning the Dust Barrel and Cyclonic Filter, connect the Cyclonic Filter with extension wand and handle (washed part should be dried in the shade thoroughly before assembling).

  5. Push and turn the Dust Barrel to the right. Adjust indicating marks each other carved on Dust Barrel and Cyclonic Filter.
