Frequently Asked Questions - 7C17 SEIKO

How do I set the time on my Seiko 7C17 watch?
Pull the crown out to the second position (fully extended). Turn the crown clockwise or counterclockwise to set the correct time. Push the crown back in to the normal position.
How do I change the date on my Seiko 7C17?
Pull the crown out to the first position (one click). Turn the crown clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM to prevent damage to the movement.
What type of battery does the Seiko 7C17 use?
The Seiko 7C17 typically uses a SR920SW (or equivalent) silver oxide battery. Replaces every 2-3 years.
Is the Seiko 7C17 water resistant?
Yes, it is water resistant to 30 meters (3 ATM). Suitable for splashes and brief immersion, but not for swimming or diving.
How can I replace the battery myself?
Battery replacement should be done by a professional watchmaker to maintain water resistance. The case back needs to be opened carefully and the gasket should be checked.
What does the crown do on the Seiko 7C17?
The crown has three positions: normal (worn), first click (date adjustment), second click (time setting). It also serves to wind the watch if it is an automatic, but the 7C17 is quartz, so no winding.
How do I clean my Seiko 7C17?
Clean the watch case and metal bracelet with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using chemicals or abrasives. For leather straps, use a leather cleaner.
Why did my Seiko 7C17 stop running?
The most common reason is a depleted battery. Replace the battery. If it still doesn't work, there may be a mechanical issue; consult a watchmaker.
Can I wear my Seiko 7C17 while showering?
It is not recommended. Although water resistant to 30m, showering may expose it to soap and steam, which can degrade the gaskets over time.
Where can I find a service manual for the Seiko 7C17?
Service manuals are typically available from Seiko distributors or online. You can also search for 'Seiko 7C17 service manual PDF' on the internet.

The miniature battery which powers your watch should last approximately 2 years (Cal. 2A27 and Cal. 4J27) / 5 years (Cal. 7C17). For battery replacement, we recommend that you contact an AUTHORIZED SEIKO DEALER and request SEIKO SR621SW (Cal. 2A27) / SEIKO SR521SW (Cal. 4J27) / SEIKO SR43SW (Cal. 7C17) battery.
