Frequently Asked Questions - MPC 20 PCE Instruments

How do I scale the input signal to my desired engineering units?
Press the SET key to enter programming mode. Use the arrow keys to select the scaling menu (SCAL). Set the low and high input values (e.g. 4 mA and 20 mA) and corresponding display values (e.g. 0 and 100). Confirm with SET.
Can the MPC 20 measure temperature with a PT100 sensor?
No, the MPC 20 is designed for standard voltage and current signals. For PT100 measurements, you would need an external temperature transmitter that converts the PT100 resistance to a 4-20 mA signal.
How do I calibrate the device?
To calibrate, apply a known reference signal (e.g. 4 mA for zero and 20 mA for full scale). Enter the calibration menu by pressing and holding SET for 5 seconds. Follow prompts to adjust the display reading to match the reference.
What is the maximum input voltage or current I can apply?
The voltage input accepts up to 10 V DC maximum. For current input, the maximum is 24 mA. Exceeding these values may damage the device.
How do I clean the front panel?
Turn off power to the device. Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Dry thoroughly before reapplying power.
Does the display have a backlight?
Yes, the MPC 20 features a bright red LED display with a backlight that can be configured to stay on continuously or turn off after a set time to save energy.
How do I replace a blown fuse?
Disconnect the device from power. Open the fuse holder located on the rear panel. Replace the blown fuse with one of the same rating (100 mA/250 V, 5x20 mm). Close the holder and reconnect power.
What is the warranty period for the MPC 20?
PCE Instruments offers a standard warranty of 2 years from the date of purchase against manufacturing defects. Contact your dealer for warranty claims.
Can I use the MPC 20 for DC current measurement?
Yes, the current input accepts both 0-20 mA and 4-20 mA DC signals. Select the appropriate input range in the setup menu.
Is the MPC 20 suitable for outdoor use?
The front panel is IP65 rated, making it splash-proof and dust-tight, but the rear terminals are not sealed. For outdoor use, install the device in an enclosure with adequate protection from moisture and extreme temperatures.

→ In differential mode, the absolute particle counts per channel are found.
→ Example:

Channel [μm]Cumulative particle count [PK]Particle count differential [PD]Calculation
0.310601000= [PK,60]+[PD,1000]=[PK,1060]
2.56050= [PK,10]+[PD,50]=[PK,60]
