How do diodes work, and what are they used for?
Diodes are an electrical device which are used to isolate current flow by controlling (blocking or passing) its flow. Diodes introduce a 0.7 volt drop in voltage to the circuit in which they are installed. There is a band, or stripe, on one end of the diode, which is used to identify its polarity. The direction that it will be oriented will depend on the polarity of the system involved:

We recommend any IN4000 series diodes, which are typically rated for 1 amp. Some examples of use with an alarm install are:
