The climatic class can be found on the rating plate. Its specific the ambient temperatures at which the appliance may be operated. Therating plate can be found inside the appliance at the bottom left-hand side.

Theairatthebackoftheappliancewill heatup. Thiswarmairmustbeallowedto freelyescape, otherwisetherefrigerating machinemustperformmore. Thisraises electricityconsumption. Hence, the air-inletandoutletaperturesshouldnever becoveredorblockedoff!
Connecting the appliance
Afterinstallingtheappliance, waitatleast 12 houruntiltheappliancestartsup. Duringtransportationtheoilinthe compressormayhaveflowedintothe refrigerationsystem.
Beforeswitchingontheapplianceforthe firsttime,cleantheinterior(seeCleaning).
Thesocketshouldbefreelyaccessible.
Connecttheapplianceto220-240V/50 Hzalternatingcurrentviaacorrectly installedearthedsocket. Thesocketmust befusedwitha10Afuseorhigher.
If the appliance is to be operated in a non-Europe country, check on the rating plate whether the indicated voltage and current type correspond to the values of your main supply. Therating plate is situated in the bottom left-hand side of the appliance. The power cord may be replaced by an electrician only.

Selectingthetemperature
SetthetemperatureselectoronFig. 2/1 toanumber. The higher then number, the lower the temperature. We recommend a medium setting (of e.g. 2–3).
Onapplianceswithtemperaturedisplay youmustsetthetemperatureselectorso thatitspointerremainswithintheblack zoneoverthelongterm. Fig. 4

- If you cannot open the freezer compartment door immediately after closing it, wait 2–3 minutes until the partial vacuum hasequalised.
- Therefrigerationsystemmaycauseseveralareasofthefreezershelvesto frost quickly. Thisdoesnotaffectfunctionor powerconsumption. The appliance doesnotrequiredfrostinguntiltheentiresurfaceofthefreezershelfiscovered withmorethan5 mmoffrostorice.
- Thesidesofthehousingaresometimes heatedslightly. Thispreventscondensationintheareaofthedoorseal.
- Toensurethelowestenergyconsumption,therearpanel(condenser) oftheapplianceshouldbe100mm fromthekitchenwall.

- Toensuregoodaircirculationinthe appliance,insertthefreezerdrawersall theway.
- Ifalargequantityoffoodistobeplaced inthefreezercompartment, thefood canbestackeddirectlyonthewire shelves. Todothis, pulloutthefreezer drawersalltheway, liftatthefrontand remove. Fig. 5

If you are freezing food yourself, use only fresh, undamaged food.
The following foods aresuitable for freezing:
Meatandsausageproducts,poultryand game,fish,vegetables,herbs,fruit,cakes andpastries,pizza,readymeals, leftovers,eggyolkandegg-white.
The following foods are not suitable for freezing:
Eggsinshells,souredcreamand mayonnaise,greensalads,radishes and onions.
Blanchingvegetablesandfruit
Toretaincolour, flavour, aroma and vitamin C, vegetables and fruit should be blanched prior to freezing. Blanching is the brief immersion of vegetables and fruit in boiling water. Literature on freezing and blanching is available in bookshops.
Storingfoodinthe appliance
Foodwhichisalreadyfrozenmustnot comeintocontactwiththefoodwhich is tobefrozen.Ifrequired,movethe frozenfoodtothefreezerdrawers.
Whenfreshfoodisfrozen, the temperatureinthefreezercompartment mayrisetosuchanextentthatthe temperaturedisplaylampflashes, Fig. 2/5, However, the food which is already frozen is not at risk of thawing. After 24 hours at the latest the set temperature is reached again.
Note
Topreventfoodfromthawingintheevent ofapowerfailureorafault,placeice blocksdirectlyonthefoodinthetop compartment.
Usablecapacity
Informationontheusablecapacitycanbe foundinsideyourapplianceontherating plate.
Packingthefood
Packthefoodinseparateportionswhich suittheday-to-dayneedsofyour household.Dividevegetablesandfruit intoportionsnoheavierthan1 kgand meatintoportionsupto2.5kg.Smaller portionsfreezemorequicklyandretain theirqualitybetterduringdefrostingand cooking.
Toretaintheflavourandpreventthefood fromdryingout,wrapthefoodairtight.
Suitableforpackingare:
plasticfilm, polythenetube-film, aluminiumfoilandfreezertins. These productscanbeboughtataspecialist outlet.
Unsuitableare:
wrappingpaper, greaseproofpaper, cellophane, refusebagsandused shoppingbags.
Placethefoodinthewrapping, squeeze outallairandsealthewrappingwell.
Suitableforsealingare:
elasticbands, plasticclips, string, cold-resistanttapeorsuchlike. Bags and tube-filmofpolythenemaybesealed with afilmsealer.
Beforeplacingthefoodinthefreezer compartment,markeachfreezerpacket withthecontentsandthedateonwhichit wasinserted.
Allowhotfoodanddrinkstocooltoroom temperaturebeforeplacingtheminthe freezercompartment.
Fastfreezing
If there is already food in the freezer compartment, switch ON fast freezing several hours before freezing fresh produce. As a rule, 4–6 hours is adequate. If max. freezing capacity is to be utilised, 24 hours are required. Smaller quantities of food (up to 2 kg) can be frozen without fast freeze. Toswitch ON fast freeze, simply pressthe fast-freeze button. Fig. 2/3
Theyellowpilotlightindicatesthatfast freezeisON.Therefrigeratingunitnow operatescontinuously.The freezer compartmentdropstoalowtemperature.
Afterinsertingfreshproduceintothe freezercompartment,switchOFFfast freezing. Thefreezingprocessisnow controlledautomaticallybytheappliance atareducedpowerconsumption.
Whenthetemperatureindicator, Fig. 4, isintheblackarea, thefreezingprocess is complete.
Max.freezercapacity
Foodshouldbefrozenrightthroughas quicklyaspossible.Onlyinthiswayare vitamins,nutritionalvalues,appearance andtasteretained.Therefore,youshould notexceedthemaximumfreezing capacityofyourappliance.
Freezingcapacity
Informationaboutthemax.freezing capacitywithin24 hourscanbefound on theratingplate.
Defrostingfrozen produce
Dependingonthetypeoffoodand intendeduse,frozenproducecanbe defrosted:
- atroomtemperature,
- inarefrigerator,
- inanelectricoven, with/without fan assisted hot-air,
- inamicrowave.
Note
DoNOTrefreezefoodwhichisbeginning todefrostor whichhasalreadydefrosted.
Only food which is subsequently prepared (cooked or fried) may be refrozen.
Nolongerstorethefrozenproduceforthe max.storageperiod.

If the appliance is not used for a prolonged period:
- Pulloutthemainsplugorswitchoff the fuse.
- Defrostandcleantheappliance.
- Leavetheappliancedooropen.
Defrosting and cleaning

Donotuseasteamcleaner. Steam may come into contact with electrical components and cause short-circuit or an electric shock.
Donotremovefrostwithaknifeor pointedobject.
Donotdamagetherefrigerantcircuit tubes.
Leakingrefrigerantmaycauseeyeinjuries andisflammable.
Donotuseelectricalappliancesornaked flamesintheappliance.
Note
Ifthelayeroffrostisapprox. 1 / 2 cmthick, thefreezercompartmentmustbe defrosted. Nevertheless, defrostthe freezercompartmentatleastonceor twiceayear. Thebesttimetodefrost is whenthereislittleornofoodinthe appliance.
Approx. 4 hours before defrosting the appliance, switch on fast freezes that the food drop to a very low temperature and can therefore be restored at room temperature for longer period.
Proceedasfollows
- Removethefreezerdrawerscontaining thefood.Placetheiceblocks (if enclosed)onthefood.Wrapthe frozenfoodinseveralsheetsof newspaperandstoreinacoollocation.
- Pulloutthemainsplugordisconnect thefuse.
- Defrosttheappliance.
- Afterdefrostingtheappliance,wipeup thecondensationonthefloorofthe freezercompartmentwithasponge.
- Cleanwithwaterandalittlewashing-up liquid.Cleanthedoorsealwithwater onlyandthendrythoroughly.
- Switchontheapplianceagain.
- Putthefrozenfoodbackinthefreezer compartment.

- Thefreezershouldbeinstalledinadry, wellventilatedroom, notexposed to direct sunlight and not placed near a heatsource(radiator, etc.).

- Allowwarmfoodtocooldownbefore placingitinthefreezer.
- Thawfrozenfoodbyplacingitinthe refrigerator. Thelowtemperatureof the frozenfoodcoolsthefoodinthe refrigerator.
- Defrosttheappliancewheniceforms. A thicklayeroficeimpairsrefrigeration ofthefrozenfoodandincreasesthe powerconsumption.
- Whenloadingorunloadingthefreezer, opentheappliancedoorasbrieflyas possible.
Thebriefertheappliancedooris opened, the lower the ice formation on the freezershelves. - Topreventthefoodfromwarmingup quicklyintheeventofapowerfailure or malfunction,takeiceblocksfromthe freezertrayandplacetheminthetop compartmentdirectlyonthefood.

Checkwhether:
- The appliance has been switched ON.
- Therehasbeenapowerfailure.
- Thefuseforthebuildingelectrical systemhasbeenswitchedOFF.
- Themainsplughasbeencorrectly insertedintothesocket.

Thefreezercompartmentistoowarm because:
- Thedoorwasopenedfrequentlyor largequantitiesoffreshfoodwere frozen.
- Thetemperatureselectorwassetto a highersetting.
- Theventilationslotswerecovered.
When these fault have been rectified, the temperature warning light goes out. If the light does NOT go out, call customer service.
