Frequently Asked Questions - CKSS7801WM Emerson

What is the correct installation procedure?
Turn off HVAC power, mount the base plate to wall, connect wires (C-wire recommended for constant power), attach thermostat, and power on. Follow the in-app step-by-step guide.
Does this thermostat require a C-wire?
It can operate with batteries (2xAA) for basic functions, but a C-wire is strongly recommended for continuous Wi-Fi and backlight operation.
How do I connect to Wi-Fi?
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > select your network and enter password. Ensure you have a reliable 2.4 GHz connection; 5 GHz is not supported.
Can I control it remotely?
Yes, via the free Emerson Smart thermostat app available for iOS and Android. Create an account to access schedules and temperature adjustments.
What HVAC systems are compatible?
Most standard forced air systems including gas, electric, heat pump, and oil. Not compatible with line voltage (120V) or millivolt systems.
How to set a heating schedule?
Open the app, tap on 'Schedule', then adjust temperature setpoints for each day. You can set up to 4 periods (Wake, Away, Home, Sleep).
Why is the display blank?
Check if the circuit breaker is on, verify the C-wire connection, or replace backup batteries if installed. If using batteries alone, the display may dim to save power; tap the screen to wake.
How to reset to factory defaults?
Go to Settings > Reset > Factory Reset. Confirm by entering the default PIN (0000) if prompted. This erases all schedules and Wi-Fi settings.
What are the maintenance requirements?
Clean the thermostat surface with a soft, dry cloth occasionally. Avoid using water or cleaning chemicals. Ensure ventilation slots are dust-free.
How to change backup batteries?
Remove the faceplate by pulling gently. Insert two new AA alkaline batteries, observing polarity. Reattach faceplate until it clicks. Battery life is approximately 1 year.

3 Preparation For Use

Remove the clock from the carton and remove all packing material from the clock. Save the packing material, if possible, in case the clock ever needs to be serviced or transported. The original carton and packing material is the only safeway to pack your clock to protect it from damage in transit.
Remove any descriptive labels, stickers or protective films on the front or top of the cabinet, if any.
Do not remove any labels or stickers from the back or bottom of the cabinet. Note the serial number on the bottom of your clock and write this number in the space provided on the Warranty page of this manual.
Place your clock on a level surface such as a table, desk or shelf, convenient to an AC outlet, out of direct sunlight, and away from sources of excess heat, dirt, dust, moisture, humidity, or vibration.

Protect Your Furniture

This model is equipped with non-skid rubber 'feet' to prevent the product from moving when you operate the controls. These 'feet' are made from non-

migrating rubber material specially formulated to avoid leaving any marks or stains on your furniture. However certain types of oil based furniture polishes wood preservatives, or cleaning sprays may cause the rubber 'feet' to soften, and leave marks or a rubber residue on the furniture. To prevent any damage to your furniture we strongly recommend that you purchase small self

adhesive felt pads, available at hardware stores and home improvement centers everywhere, and apply these pads to the bottom of the rubber'feet before you place the product on fine wooden furniture.

Power Source

This clock is designed to operate on normal 120V 60Hz AC power only. Do not attempt to operate the clock on any other power source. You could cause

damage to the clock that is not covered by your warranty. This clock should be connected to an AC outlet that is always 'live'. Do not connect it to an outlet that is controlled by a wall switch. When the power to the clock is interrupted,

the built in lithium battery takes over to maintain the time and alarm settings. To maximize the life of the lithium battery keep the clock connected to a 'live'

AC outlet at all times.

Care Of Cabinets

If the cabinet becomes dusty, wipe it with a soft cloth. If the cabinet becomes smudged or dirty, clean it with a soft, slightly dampened cloth. Never allow water or any liquid to get inside the cabinet. Never use any abrasive cleaners or cleaning pads as these will damage the finish of your radio.

Lithium Battery Precautions

- The battery may explode if mistreated. Do not attempt to recharge it or disassemble it. Do not dispose of the old battery in a fire.
