Frequently Asked Questions - VRX2008R Tripp Lite

How do I install the VRX2008R voltage regulator?
Place the unit in a well-ventilated area, either on a shelf or mount it in a 19-inch rack (2U). Connect the input power cord to a grounded AC outlet. Plug your devices into the 8 outlets. Ensure total load does not exceed 1800W.
What does the voltage regulation feature do?
The VRX2008R uses automatic voltage regulation (AVR) to correct undervoltage (brownouts) and overvoltage conditions. It boosts low voltages and bucks high voltages to maintain a stable 120V output, protecting connected equipment.
How many devices can I plug into this voltage regulator?
The unit has 8 NEMA 5-15R outlets. The number of devices depends on their power draw. The total load must not exceed 2000 VA (1800 W).
What is the input voltage range for normal operation?
The VRX2008R accepts input voltages from 96V to 144V. Outside this range, the regulator will disconnect or enter protection mode.
How should I clean the voltage regulator?
Unplug the unit before cleaning. Use a soft dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use any liquids, sprays, or abrasive cleaners. Ensure vents remain unobstructed.
Does the VRX2008R provide battery backup?
No, this is a voltage regulator only, not an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). It conditions the power but does not provide battery backup. For battery backup, consider a Tripp Lite UPS.
What do 'boost' and 'buck' mean in voltage regulation?
Boost increases voltage when input is low (e.g., from 100V to 120V). Buck decreases voltage when input is high (e.g., from 140V to 120V). This keeps output within safe limits.
Can I mount the VRX2008R in a server rack?
Yes, it is designed for 19-inch rack mounting and occupies 2U (3.5 inches) of vertical space. Mounting hardware is included.
What should I do if the unit overloads?
The VRX2008R has overload protection. If overloaded, it will shut down or sound an alarm. Unplug some devices to reduce load below 2000 VA, then turn the unit off and on to reset.
What is the warranty on the VRX2008R?
Tripp Lite provides a 2-year limited warranty. For details, visit their website or contact support.

USER MANUAL VRX2008R Tripp Lite

Important Safety Instructions

• Install your voltage regulator indoors, away from excess moisture and heat, direct sunlight, and dust and other conductive contaminants.
- For best performance, keep the indoor temperature between 0ircC and 40ircC (between 32ircF and 104ircF ).
- Leave adequate space around all sides of the voltage regulator for proper ventilation.
- Connect your voltage regulator directly to a three-wire, grounded AC power outlet. Do not remove or modify the ground pin of the voltage regulator's plug. Do not use adapters that would eliminate the voltage regulator's connection to ground.
- Do not use extension cords between the voltage regulator and the AC outlet. If necessary, a Tripp Lite Surge Suppressor may be used between the voltage regulator and the AC outlet.
- Use of this equipment in life support applications where failure of this equipment can reasonably be expected to cause the failure of the life support equipment or to significantly affect its safety or effectiveness is not recommended. Do not use this equipment in the presence of a flammable anesthetic mixture with air, oxygen or nitrous oxide.

Installation

1 Connect your voltage regulator to an electrical outlet.
2 Plug your computer and electronics into your voltage regulator's outlets. NOTE: Four outlets feature Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) only and four outlets feature surge suppression only. Connect your computer and electronics accordingly.
3 Turn your voltage regulator's power switch on.

Fax/Modem Protection

NOTE: This connection is optional. Your voltage regulator will work properly without this connection. Using telephone cords, connect your wall jack to the voltage regulator jack marked "IN" and your equipment to the voltage regulator jack marked "OUT".

Indicator Lights

BOOST: This yellow light will turn ON whenever your voltage regulator is boosting low AC line voltage up to nominal voltage levels.

POWER: This green light will turn ON when your voltage regulator is receiving normal AC line voltage. It will blink if the system load is too high at very low voltages. Reducing loads at very low voltage levels will provide optimal AVR operation.

CUT: This red light will turn ON whenever your voltage regulator is reducing high AC line voltage down to nominal voltage levels.
