Preparing the System for Initial Use
Automatic Distance Correction Check
The mobile navigation system calculates and indicates the vehicle position on the map by multiplying the speed pulse emitted by the vehicle with a correction coefficient. The speed pulse emitted differs from the type of vehicle, and differences in tire pressure and wear require a different correction coefficient even for vehicles of the same type.
The system corrects distance deviations automatically based on GPS data. To be able to use the system effectively in the following cases, make sure to carry out the procedure described below.
- Before initial use
• After tire rotation
• After a tire change - When installing a navigation system previously installed in another vehicle
1 Press SET UP to open the [Set Up Menu]. On the [Set Up Menu], select [Information] by moving the joystick, and then press ENTER.

2 On the [Set Up Menu - Information] menu, select [Wiring Check], and then press ENTER.

3 Select [Clear], and press ENTER. → [Status] is reset to [Level 0].

Select [END], and press ENTER.

Drive your vehicle for about 30 minutes with the Current Position Map displayed.
As the distance correction coefficient becomes more accurate, any deviation between the actual vehicle position and that on the map is eliminated.
Important Notes:
- Do not start driving until the opening screen closes.
- Drive at an average speed of at least 20 km per hour in the open area is good.
- The mobile navigation system uses GPS data for distance correction. Make sure that GPS signals are being received (checking for GPS reception is described on the next page).
Depending on the Vehicle Model
- The vehicle position indicator may disappear temporarily after speed raises. This is a normal phenomenon indicating that the system is calculating for distance correction.
Preparing the System for Initial Use
Checking GPS Satellite Reception
1 Press SET UP to open the [Set Up Menu]. On the [Set Up Menu], select [Information] by moving the joystick, and then press ENTER.

2 On the [Set Up Menu - Information] menu, select [GPS], and press ENTER.
→ The [GPS Information] menu opens with the following information:
- Satellite number
• Latitude and longitude of the current position - Current date and time

Important Notes:
• After the system has been installed in the vehicle, it takes about 30 minutes until satisfactory GPS signal reception is established.
- Check GPS reception in open area location.

The Mobile Navigation System uses input from three or more satellites and calculates the vehicle position based on the principle of triangulation.
The positioning accuracy of the system corresponds to the error window of the GPS of about 30 to 200 meters.

If you are using the system for the first time, or if you have not used it for some time, it takes about 5 minutes (or about 2 minutes in places of open area) to calculate your vehicle's position.
GPS signal reception is poor in the following places:

- If you have a roof carrier on your vehicle, install the GPS antenna away from the roof carrier.
- The GPS satellites are controlled by the U.S. Defense Department, which may intentionally
Notes:
- There may be vehicle position deviations for some time till GPS signals are received after turning on the ignition.
- Using a spare tire in place of the regular one may cause vehicle position deviations.
- Any difference between the direction in which your vehicle actually travels and that shown on the map is automatically eliminated by azimuth correction.
Map Matching
This function compares your vehicle's tracking data with the road data on the map CD-ROM, applies dead reckoning to determine the road where you are driving, and displays your vehicle on that road on the map.
Intelligent Map Matching
Intelligent map matching addresses the following problems to achieve high accuracy in vehicle positioning.
Position Correction for Elevated Roads
Position accuracy is improved by detecting whether the vehicle is running on or under an elevated road.
Position Correction for Parking Garages
Position accuracy is improved by detecting whether the vehicle is driving in an elevated or underground parking garage.

A gyro detects turns with an accuracy of 0.05^ per second. Combined with a speed sensor, it enables the system to display the current vehicle position even in locations where GPS signals may be blocked.
Positioning Accuracy
In the following situations, your vehicle position may not be displayed correctly on the map. But as you keep driving, your vehicle position will be corrected automatically utilizing map matching and GPS data.

Cautions
Notes:
- It is natural that the unit becomes warm during prolonged use.
- The unit may not function properly if installed in a location where it is exposed to high temperature such as in the trunk. Preferably install it in the driver's compartment.
Install the main unit on a firm base inside the driver's compartment, such as on the floor or in the console box. Any changes in its position may cause the position of your vehicle to deviate in the screen.
Choose the location for installing the main unit so that it is easy to reach it for inserting and removing the map DVD-ROM and points in a convenient direction.
Do not install the main unit on its side or upside down. This may cause malfunctions.
- Install the main unit in horizontal position. The permissible tilt is within 10^ side to side and within 30^ front to back.

Do not install the main unit in locations that tend to get very hot, such as on the dashboard or in the glove compartment.
This may cause damage to the unit.
To prevent damage, avoid installing the main unit in places where it is exposed to:
- Direct sunlight
● Air flow from the air conditioner
• Heat generated by other equipment
Ensure that the fan outlet at the rear of the main unit is not blocked.
When installing the unit with the L-Shaped Brackets
- Attach the L-Shaped Brackets on both sides of the unit with the Screws with Washers.

- Install the unit with Tapping Screws.

CAUTION!
If noise is generated in proportion to engine revolutions, the earth conductor of the navigation power cord is that of the TV tuner unit should be connected to the same place of the metallic block of the car body. Take same action if the brightness of navigation screen is not constant.
Note: ☐☒ To connect the illumination cord to the power cord of the car, cut off the terminal and use the clamp type connector instead.

• Make sure the connectors are plugged firmly into all units.
- Do not install this kit in places where it could be exposed to splash water or the air flow from the air-conditioner, or near the vehicle entrance where it could be stepped on.
Installation of GPS Antenna
Install the GPS antenna in the vehicle where the system can receive GPS satellite signals from all directions.
ATTENTION!
- Keep paint and wax away from the GPS antenna as these may reduce its sensitivity.
- Snow also affects antenna sensitivity and should be cleared away.
-
Before taking your vehicle through a car washer, make sure to remove the GPS antenna.
-
Do not pull on the cord to remove the antenna. Otherwise you might disconnect the cord or scratch the vehicle surface.
- Wipe the installation surface clean before attaching the antenna.
Lead the antenna cord inside the vehicle.
1 Secure the cord with clampers up to the point where it enters the vehicle.
2 Lead the cord through the rubber seal and fix the rubber seal with adhesive at the point where the weatherstrip meets the trunk lid.
3 Lead the cord inside the vehicle and secure it to the body with clampers.

Installation inside the Vehicle (Dashboard or Rear Tray) (Recommended)
Install the antenna in horizontal position on the dashboard or in the center of the rear tray near the rear window.

ATTENTION!
• Install the antenna at least 20 cm (recommended clearance) away from the monitor and other electronic components as these may reduce the reception sensitivity.
- Do not bend, cut or otherwise modify the metal bracket (L-shaped).
- The metal bracket is supplied exclusively for installation inside the vehicle. Do not use it for roof installation.
- Use only the supplied metal bracket.
Note:
- The antenna is less sensitive when installed inside the vehicle. At times when GPS satellite signals are weak, this may result in a vehicle positioning error.
• The body shape of some vehicles may interfere with proper signal reception. - Some types of window glass may block signal reception.
- If the reception sensitivity is not satisfactory with the antenna installed inside the vehicle, install it on the roof.
Final Check
Make sure to carry out a final check of connections and GPS reception after installation and wiring.
