Frequently Asked Questions - Pure water UV WP3889 PHILIPS

How often should I replace the UV lamp?
The UV lamp should be replaced annually or after 8000 hours of use, whichever comes first. Regular replacement ensures optimal disinfection performance.
Can I install the filter myself?
Yes, the filter is designed for easy DIY installation. It comes with a quick-connect system and detailed instructions. However, if you are unsure, professional installation is recommended.
Does the UV filter remove all bacteria and viruses?
Yes, the UV filter effectively eliminates up to 99.99% of harmful microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and protozoa, by disrupting their DNA with UV-C light.
What is the lifespan of the filter cartridge?
The pre-filter cartridge (if included) should be replaced every 6 months, while the main UV lamp lasts 12 months. Always follow the indicator alerts.
Does the filter require electricity?
Yes, the UV lamp requires a power supply of 220-240V AC. The power consumption is only 15W, making it energy-efficient.

4.0 Maintenance

Warning

Never use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive liquids such as petrol or acetone to clean the appliance.

4.1 Cleaning:

4.1.1 How to clean your Water Purifier?

  • Clean the Water Purifier regularly using a damp (not wet) cloth • Do not pour water over the Water Purifier
  • Do not use corrosive and abrasive cleaning products
  • If not used for 2 days: Press & hold the Dispense button for 4 seconds to flush out approximately 20 litres of water into a container.

4.2 Replacement:

Contact your nearest service centre to replace your filter on time and every time.

4.2.1 Replacement of Filter

Note:

Switch off the Water Purifier before you commence filter change.

When do you replace the filter?

The filter is good to use up to 3000 litres or 6 months, whichever is earlier. Once the filter crosses the mark of 2700 litres, the water purifier gives you a Filter warning (Filter LED starts blinking). You can continue to dispense water (another 300 litres) during this warning period but the Filter LED will always blink as an alert for you, so that you can arrange for a new filter.

Filter life expires once it reaches 3000 litres. In this scenario the Filter LED will glow constant RED and the Water Purifier will not dispense water unless the Filter is replaced.

Note:

It is recommended to change the filter after every 6 months even though you might not have consumed 3000 litres.

Filter life is subject to actual level of impurities in your water supply and thus might expire before 3000 litres without any alert/warning.

Always buy original Philips Filter model no WP3989. For any assistance call our Philips Pure Water Care Numbers. (Ref Section 8.0)

How to replace the filter?

  • Switch 'Off' the Water Purifier;
  • Open the door. Fig.7

Lever

- Pull the filter unit towards you with the help of the lever from its mounted place and slightly tilt it. Fig. 8

To close the filter cap, align the arrow on the cap with the arrow on the filter housing and press down firmly.

4.2.1.1 Filter Replacement Confirmation

Rotate the cap in a clockwise direction to close, Fig. 12.

How to Confirm Filter Replacement?

Arrow Arrow

Switch on the Water Purifier.

  • If you have replaced the filter during the warning period, the Filter LED would blink. Wait till the Dispense button LED glows to a constant green.
  • If you have replaced the filter after filter expiry, the Filter LED will be constantly ON.

Press and hold "Filter" change button and the "Dispense" button together for 4 sec.

(A) Press and hold the "Filter" change button. (B) Press and hold the "Dispense" button. (C) Make sure that you press and hold both these buttons together for more than 4 sec. The Water Purifier will now acknowledge the new filter. The Filter LED will switch off, which means that the new filter is registered. If the Filter warning still persists, try repeating steps (A), (B), (C). Once the new filter is acknowledged, the Water Purifier will automatically flush approximately 20 litres of water. Make sure that you either drain that water to the sink or place a container (20 litres) to collect the flushed water and discard it later.

Note:

If you have replaced the filter during the warning period, wait until the Dispense button LED glows a constant green and then follow steps (A), (B), (C). If you have replaced the filter after filter expiry, the Filter LED will glow constantly, after which follow steps (A), (B), (C). Do not forget to keep a container of more than 20 litres to collect the flushed water.

7.0 Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the Philips Water Purifier on well/bore water?

Yes. The Water Purifier was designed for use on potable (drinkable) water sources such as municipal water or potable well/bore water. It is not intended for use on lake, river, sewage water or other untreated water. We recommend that you have your water tested regularly, if you use well/bore water.

Can treated water be stored?

Yes. To prevent treated water from becoming contaminated, store in a clean container with a tight-fitting lid. If properly refrigerated in an airtight container, treated water may be stored for up to 48 hours.

Can ultraviolet light make the water radioactive?

No. While the water in the Water Purifier is exposed to ultraviolet light, ultraviolet light is not radioactive. Therefore, it is impossible for the water to become radioactive.

Does the Philips Water Purifier change the taste of water?

The taste of water depends on what's in the water. The Water Purifier removes many substances such as particulates, chlorine, thus improving the taste, odour, and clarity of water.

What is so special about the UV lamp?

Ultraviolet light is an effective way to destroy micro-organisms without the use of chemicals. The UV lamp produces light in a specific wavelength that is destructive to micro-organisms. The light has to be the right intensity and the water must be exposed to the light for a specific amount of time to properly dose the water.
