Frequently Asked Questions - HYLS8000VE HYUNDAI

What type of hydraulic oil should I use for the HYLS8000VE log splitter?
Use hydraulic oils such as Shell Tellus 22, Mobil DTE 11, Aral Vitam GF 22, or BP Energol HLP-HM 22. Change the oil annually and check the level regularly using the dipstick.
How do I start the log splitter safely?
Ensure the machine is on level ground, power cord is undamaged, and both control levers are in neutral. Switch on the motor and simultaneously lower both levers to activate the splitting wedge. Release either lever to stop the wedge immediately.
What is the maximum log length and diameter the HYLS8000VE can handle?
The log splitter can handle logs up to 55 cm in length and 8–30 cm in diameter. Always split logs along the grain and use dry, seasoned wood for best results.
How do I adjust the wedge stroke for different log sizes?
Move the splitting wedge to the desired upper position (about 3–5 cm above the log). Loosen the setscrew with an L-key, raise the adjusting rod until stopped by the internal spring, then tighten the setscrew. Test the position by operating the levers.
What should I do if the motor does not start?
Check the mains fuse, extension cord condition, and ensure the socket is live. Inspect the switch. If the motor still does not start, contact a qualified electrician. For incorrect rotation direction, reverse polarity with professional help.
How do I transport the log splitter safely?
Tilt the machine using the handle and roll it on its built-in wheels for short distances. For long-distance transport, lift using the crane point (A) and secure with straps at the bundling points. Ensure the oil tank cap is tight before moving.
What personal protective equipment (PPE) is required?
Always wear safety goggles, hearing protection, non-slip work boots, protective gloves, and close-fitting clothing. Use a safety helmet with visor if needed. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry.
How often should I change the hydraulic oil?
Replace the hydraulic oil once a year or sooner if it appears contaminated. Use a drain pan to collect old oil and recycle responsibly. After refilling, run the splitter a few times without logs to circulate the oil.
What should I do if the log splitter vibrates abnormally?
Stop the machine immediately. Check for loose parts, low hydraulic oil level, or debris. If vibration persists, inspect the blade and machine for damage. Consult a service dealer if needed.
Can I use the log splitter indoors or in wet conditions?
No. The log splitter is designed for outdoor use only on level, dry ground. Do not use in rain, snow, or near flammable materials. Always operate in good light and avoid confined spaces.

HYUNDAI HYLS8000VE - DANGER : ELECTRICITY CAN KILL – NEVER WORK ON LIVE / ENERGISED EQUIPMENT. - 2

Electricity (Continued)

  • Power tools plug must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. DO NOT use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
  • DO NOT expose this power tool to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. DO NOT abuse the power cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep the cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. When operating a power tool, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

- IMPORTANT: Make sure that the electric circuit is fused, and that the power, voltage and frequency of the motor is supported by your mains supply. Also, make sure that your power supply is earthed. Connect your machine to earth. Never open the ON/OFF switchbox. However, if it should become necessary to do so, contact a qualified electrician. Make sure that you will never touch live contacts, specifically when you plug or unplug your machine. This machine and its power cord must never get into contact with water.

- Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

- To prevent electric shock, use only with an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. For additional protection, the installation of a residual current device (RCD) having a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA is advisable.

- Before use, check that the extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, make sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating.

- Do not allow any part of the machine to make contact with water while it is in operation. If the appliance becomes wet while turned off, wipe dry before starting. Do not touch the appliance or its plug with wet hands or while standing in water. Wearing rubber boots offers some protection.

- Before use, check the supply and extension cord for signs of damage or aging. If the cord becomes damaged during use, disconnect the cord from the supply immediately. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or a qualified person in order to avoid a hazard.

HYUNDAI HYLS8000VE - Electricity (Continued) - 1

Double-Insulated Appliances

In a double-insulated appliance, two systems of insulation are provided instead of grounding. No grounding means that it is already provided on a double-insulated appliance. Replacement parts for a double-insulated appliance must be identical to the parts they replace.

Safety Information

! Vibrations (Where Applicable)

  • Prolonged use of hand held (operated) machines will cause the user to feel the effects of/from vibrations. These vibrations can lead to white finger (Raynaud's phenomenon) or carpal tunnel syndrome. This condition reduces the ability of the hand to feel and regulate temperature, causing numbness and heat sensations and may cause nerve damage and circulatory tissue death.
  • Not all factors that lead to white finger disease are known, but cold weather, smoking and other diseases that affect blood vessels and blood circulation as well as large and long-lasting impact of shocks are considered factors in the formation of white finger. Note the following to reduce the risk of white finger and carpal tunnel syndrome;
  • Wear gloves and keep your hands warm.
    • Take regular breaks.
  • All of the above precautions may help reduce the risk of white finger disease but not rule out the carpal tunnel syndrome. Long-term and regular users are therefore recommended to observe the condition of your hands and fingers. Seek medical attention immediately if any of the above symptoms should occur.

  2. Prepare the logs for splitting. This splitter accommodates logs up to 55cm in length. When cutting up limbs and large sections, do not cut sections any longer than 55cm.

HYUNDAI HYLS8000VE - SPLITTER OPERATION - 2

Do not attempt to split green logs. Dry, seasoned logs split much more easily, and will not jam as frequently as green wood.

  1. Applying a thin coat of grease to the surfaces of the ram before operation will lengthen the durability of the ram.

Grease

  1. Route the power cord. Route the cord from the power source to the splitter in a way that safeguards against tripping on the cord, or the cord becoming damaged during the work session. Protect the power cord from impacts, pulling or corrosive materials.
  2. Open the Air Bleed. Loosen the oil tank cover a few turns whenever the splitter is being used. Retighten this cover when you have finished.

Operation

Never allow motor running at counter direction. This will damage the pump and will void the warranty.

  1. While operating under extremely low temperature, keep the log splitter running under no load for 15 minutes to preheat the hydraulic oil.

  2. Before initial operation, check to be sure the two-handed operation is properly functioning by following steps:

(1) Lower both control levers, the splitting wedge will lower to 5cm above the highest table position.
(2) Release either of the levers, splitting wedge should remain in the original position.

(3) Release both levers, the ram should rise to the highest position automatically.

  1. To set wedge ram stroke, take the following steps:

(1) Move splitting wedge to desired position. The upper position of the ram wedge travel should be about 3-5cm over the logs to be split.
(2) Release a control lever or switch off motor.
(3) Release the Setscrew (A) with L key. Raise Adjusting Rod (B) until Adjusting Rod (B) begins to be stopped by the spring inside. Tighten the Setscrew (A).
(4) Release both control levers or switch on motor.
(5) Check upper position of splitting wedge.

  1. Place log onto splitter. Place the log onto the support table vertically and sitting flat on the support table. Be sure the wedge and support table will contact the log squarely on the ends. Never attempt to split a log at an angle.

Operation

  1. Place log onto splitter. Place the log onto the support table vertically and sitting flat on the support table. Be sure the wedge and support table will contact the log squarely on the ends. Never attempt to split a log at an angle.

HYUNDAI HYLS8000VE - Operation - 1

Break log in the direction of its growing grain. Do not place log across the log splitter for splitting. It may be dangerous and may seriously damage the machine.

  1. Adjust the Log Holders (A) according to the diameter of the log to obtain the most comfortable Control Levers angle.

Technical schematic of a mechanical assembly with labeled component A (no text or symbols present)

  1. Hold the log with clamping brackets closely in the control lever guards. lower levers to start the splitting. Releasing either lever stops the motion of the splitting wedge. Releasing both handles to return the splitting wedge to the upper position.

13 Stack as you work. This will provide a safer work area, by keeping it uncluttered, and avoid the danger of tripping, or damaging the power cord.

HYUNDAI HYLS8000VE - Operation - 4

Accumulated split wood and wood chips can create a hazardous work environment. Never continue to work in a cluttered work area which may cause you to slip, trip or fall.

Maintenance & Care

Cleaning

Always remove the electric plug from the mains supply before any cleaning is undertaken.

  • Remove any grass and mud after each use to prevent it from drying. Use a clean cloth to remove dirt, grease, etc.
    • DO NOT use any water on any part of the main machine.
  • Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use.
    • Always ensure that ventilation openings are kept clear of debris.

The Blade

! WARNING!

  • Never touch a blade.
  • The blade should always be sharp and well balanced. At regular intervals, check the tightness of all nuts, bolts and screws.
  • If the blade hits an obstacle, check for damage and if the machine vibrates badly, stop the machine and take it to a service dealer.
  • It is best if all interventions on the blade are done at a specialised centre that has the special tools and equipment.

Maintenance & Care

REPLACING HYDRAULIC OIL

The hydraulic system is a closed system with oil tank, oil pump and control valve. Check oil level regularly with dipstick. Low oil levels can damage the oil pump. Oil Level should measure approx. 1 - 2 cm lower than the upper surface of the oil tank.

The oil should be completely changed once a year.

  • Make sure moving parts stop and the log splitter is unplugged.
    • Make sure that no dirt or debris finds its way into the oil tank.
  • Collect used oil and responsibly recycle.
  • Following an oil change, activate the log splitter a few times without actually splitting.

Following hydraulic oils or equivalent are recommend for the log splitter's hydraulic transmission system:

SHELL Tellus 22

MOBIL DTE 11

ARAL Vitam GF 22

BP Energol HLP-HM 22

Unwind the Cap slightly before operation

Use a drain pan to aid in the removal of all used oil and particles.

Remove oil drain plug to drain oil from the hydraulic tank. Examine oil for metal chips as a precaution to future problems.
