Frequently Asked Questions - Air Force Top Gun TG-3V MetroVac

How do I change the carbon brushes?
To replace the carbon brushes (ABC-3): Remove the front endcap. Locate the wire going to the brush and use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the tab. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the brush mounting bracket. Install the tab into the new brush and replace the bracket. Brushes should be checked every 200-250 hours and replaced after about 500 hours of use.
How do I clean or replace the foam filter?
The foam filter (MVC-56F) can be cleaned by pulling it out from the backend and shaking out debris. It can also be rinsed with water, but must be completely dry before reinserting. Replace with a new filter after 3 rinses.
What attachments are available for purchase?
Optional attachments include the RAK-6 Accessory Kit, a 6-foot standard flexible hose (MVC-202C, requires MVC-46Q connector), and replacement foam filters (MVC-56F) and carbon brushes (ABC-3). These are available at www.MetroVac.com.
How do I adjust the speed and heat?
Use the variable control knob to set motor speed from off (0) to 100%. Use the separate heater control knob to adjust temperature. For maximum heat, both knobs must be at highest settings. If low speed and high heat are desired, turn both to high first, then adjust speed down; the heating element will stay hot.
How long does it take to reach maximum heat?
The dryer should run for 5-8 minutes to reach maximum heat. Once the heating element reaches max heat, it may take up to 20 minutes to cool down. Running the motor on high speed with heat off helps dissipate heat faster.
Can I use the dryer without the heat?
Yes. When using optional attachments like the RAK-6 kit, the heat must be in the OFF position. You can also run the motor without heat by keeping the heater control at zero.
What does the 5-year warranty cover?
The Five Year Limited Warranty covers the unit and motor. There is also a One Year Warranty on parts, switches, and cords. It covers defects in materials or workmanship. Excluded are carbon brushes, filters, general maintenance, physical damage, and improper use. Customer pays shipping both ways.
Is the vacuum safe to use on wet surfaces?
No. To avoid electric shock, do not use on wet surfaces or expose to rain. The appliance is for indoor use only. Do not pick up any burning or smoking items.
How long is the power cord?
The unit comes with a 12-foot heavy duty 3-conductor cord that is grounded. Do not pull or carry by the cord, and keep away from heated surfaces.
How do I properly ground the appliance?
This appliance has a grounded plug. Connect to a properly grounded outlet only. Do not remove the grounding prong. If the plug does not fit, reverse it or contact a qualified electrician. Do not use an adapter.

MODEL (114-887041): All Steel Construction; Black Finish; 4.0 Peak HP Twin Fan Motor 120V; 9.4 Amps; 1,085 Watts; Airflow: CFM 113; 12' Ft. Heavy Duty 3 Conductor Cord; Variable Speed w/ 900W Ceramic Heating Element; 5 legged, anti-tip base and adjustable height column.

INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT: PRODUCT MUST BE GROUNDED.

WARNING: IMPROPER CONNECTION OF THE EQUIPMENT-GROUNDING CONDUCTOR CAN RESULT IN A RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK.

- Insert the grounded plug of the power supply cord into wall outlet. - Start the dryer/blower motor by turning the variable control “clockwise” from off (0) to 100%. The variable control enables users to “dial in” the EXACT amount of blowing power needed.

  • The variable heater control (separate knob) lets users control the level of temperature.
When using the optional RAK-6 attachment kit (additional part for purchase), the heat must be in the OFF position.

- To achieve maximum heat, the motor control must be at highest speed and the variable control heater control must be set to the highest setting, as well.

  • The dryer should run for 5-8 minutes, and it will reach maximum heat.
In general, we don't believe in high heat as it can damage the coat or even worse hurt the dog.
Once the Heating Element reaches max heat, it could take up to 20 minutes to cool down. Turning the heating element off and running the motor on high speed will help dissipate the heat sooner.

*If you want Low speed and High heat, both knobs must be turned to high first. Once the desired temperature is reached, you may adjust the speed setting, and the heating element will remain hot.

- MOTOR BRUSH LIFE IS APPROXIMATELY 500 HOURS. BRUSHES SHOULD BE CHECKED BETWEEN 200-250 HOUR INTERVALS. FILTER LIFE IS DEPENDENT ON USAGE. CHECK AND REPLACE WHEN REQUIRED.

  • Top Gun accessory kit - RAK-6
  • Foam filters - MVC-56F
  • 6' standard flexible hose - MVC-202C (must be used with MVC-46Q)
    • Carbon Brushes – ABC-3

Replacing carbon brushes (ABC-3: should be changed after about 500 hours of use):

  1. Remove front endcap.
  2. Find wire going to carbon brush and use flathead screwdriver to loosen tab.
  3. Use Philips screwdriver to remove carbon brush mounting bracket.
  4. Install tab into new carbon brush and replace mounting bracket.

Replacing / Cleaning Filter (Filter MVC-56F):

  1. Pull out filter from backend and replace with new or shake out.

a. You can rinse the filter and reuse, BUT IT MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY BEFORE PUTTING BACK INTO THE MACHINE.
b. Replace it with a new filter after 3 rinses.
